Understanding economic behavior/choices of humans is an important aspect of my work. Economics and its tools help you simulate the real-world scenarios and allow you to understand economic decisions of people in a better way, which is crucial for policymaking. In short, this the reason why I chose applied Economics for my PhD. I still don't understand why are you comparing it with science. Both are different domains with entirely different purpose, just like Apple and oranges.
