glowing up these seven plants + very important lazy pole update!

  • Obviously we probably all want ALL of our plants to glow up, but I thought it might be fun to pick out a few that I love a lot but have been neglecting for awhile and really see how much a little elbow grease and extra TLC will go for them this year. I plan to do a glow up update sometime in the Fall, and fingers crossed I've got some good stuff to show you by then.
ALSO!! A little (but big) lazy pole update for anyone who watched part 1 and 2 and wants to make even easier fasteners!

Love the invisible moss pole! It’s kicked off a whole round of experiments and prototypes at my house. Lol.
One quick thing on the securing pieces: for the slit design that the commentor suggested, you can just add more slits at various lengths so you can choose how tight to make it. Like holes on a belt. Let me know if that doesn’t make since. 😊

I have a lot of fun looking up all the plants and products you mention. That chunky perlite looks like a plant's dream, but I had to fast forward through you handling it (heebie jeebies). Taking stock of our collections right now is a great idea. I was newer to collecting last spring, so every time I saw a cool plant I had to buy it before it was gone. I know now that they'll come around again eventually. And I've reached my space limit. This latest version of the Invisipole™️ is frickin awesome!

Well I started the hobby last spring anf have lost a lot of plants since... I'm a bad overwaterer and they all rotted... Thankfully none of them were rare or expensive so it's not so bad, I switched to pon mostly and it helps me to just leave them tf alone so I've ordered some off people, excited for my particiae to get yere next week! And I'm def gonna do this pole, just gotta get the plastic and the moss 😅, tried some plans and I jyst would rather it have roots already so that I can chop whenever I want, I hate hate hate propagating for some reason lol

Lol I think l the think tank in bc did great w Velcro closure. I tried all the methods as I just received the transparency sheets today …u even tried white 5” zip tie as fastener! It’s easier than Velcro … pretty inconspicuous because you really can’t see on back side.
I’m not too confident to making the cuff the right size w skits coz I also don’t measure. The other option not me ruined which I did do w slits. Is to cut multiple. In case I need to adjust bandwidth !

I have over 200 plants, but honestly my plants need more care in the winter than the summer. They need more water, they need their humidifier, they need a lot more. Lol but none of mine go dormant and grow all year around. So that comes with fertilizing, repotting and so on. Most of my repot goes on right now, because they do better in my opinion and can focus of growth in spring/summer.
I can’t wait for summer. That means less for me. Because it’s so humid here, I need to water a lot less because they don’t dry out so quickly. So, I guess it’s opposite here for me. It’s been an amazing winter too, I don’t think too much happened aside from a thrip outbreak 🙄🤦‍♀️

Tossed out my mamei chonk because im sick of looking at it, repotted my dying viney pothos all together so its less to deal with and treated preemptively for the inevitable spider infestation coming next month. These videos are really a helpful kick in the ass to get my own collection looking good again. I love it.

I began "collecting" last year, I only had like 4. I have still, only one of those 4. Because of mainly not vibing with 2 of those. And the third was a hard loss but we got a kitten and she was a plant chomper. She's sense calmed way way down and I've created cat-proof spaces. :)
Now I've got 6, and 2 more in the mail. I am very happy with how many I have. Except 2 of them... I dunno they are NOT growing and I'm frustrated with them. But we'll see now that it's spring. And the others are all very small baby plants. :) I'm capping myself out at 10-12 plants this season. So. I have "space" for 2-4 more. I'm gonna be very choose-y. I wanna try a wide variety of genera but I don't want to overwhlem myself

    Current collection question:
I'm happy with my collection. It's not a HUGE collection, and there aren't any really expensive ones, but I'm very happy. I only have a few plants I want (fern leaf cactus, Thai Constellation, and a longilobatum lelano miyano) but two of the three are outside of my price range.
One really interesting thing did happen:
I bought a thaumatophyllum stenolobum for $80 a while back from a random nursery. It's finally grown new leaves and wonderfully healthy aerial roots. The weird part is there's some variegation in the two newest leaves. It's just a small splash on each, and it's just a lighter green, but the plant is really healthy so I know it isn't a virus. No warbling or lack of luster. Just really nice glossy foliage.
I am going to put it in better sun to bring out the variegation for the next few but I have no idea what that's even worth! I haven't seen any sort of variegated stenolobum for sale so when it comes time to chop and prop and sell off my extras I don't even kind of know what I should price it. It looks like a monstera sport variety of that makes sense?
I've never sold any propagations but I think I happened upon a unique plant variation and would love to pass it out. The dream plants are on my mind so I do want to sell pieces of it for a LITTLE bit of money but I don't normally even trade so I have no idea where to look up how to price something like that.

I think there's a lot to be said about the screen of anonymity, but there's also a lot to be said about social awkwardness. Like my sister as a teen would be quite nasty without knowing.
I'm autistic so I have a pretty big issue with seeming to be rude without knowing.
Hopefully you don't take things to heart. People have their own baggage that they don't even realize they have that permeates their personality. Honestly the girl who said it was nasty to use cookware may have not even thought about it being rude.
I am naturally blunt about my opinions. That doesn't mean I don't feel sorry when I realize I made someone uncomfortable, I just don't realize that I cause issues until someone brings them up.
Hope that helps you feel less weird about the first girl in your story.

You are 100% correct in everything you’ve said, and I actually have a few subs who have mentioned that they have autism and are also not always aware of how they come off. I do try to keep this in mind when comments come in, or just that generally written comments are not always translated or received in the way they are meant. About a decade ago I left a comment on someone’s IG photo that I wrote jokingly, and it was taken so way out of context and a bunch of people hanged up on me and basically told me to go f*** myself. But I think in this particular situation, it was the back and forth dialogue that went on between us that just made me really feel like she was just being rude. She also left me another comment on another video a few days prior saying I’m just another pandemic plant parent that is just acting like I know what I’m doing, and that I should be more worried about taking care of my plants than making a CZcams. I think had all those things not been said I would’ve probably just ignored it like I do most of the time. I guess I just didn’t wanna bring it up in the video and make it seem like I was going on this rampage about how this girl kept barraging me with comments. And even after I told her to stop commenting, she then left the nicer comments on other videos which completely threw me off.
All that to say, I do think your comment is a good reminder to always try and see the full picture before jumping to conclusions!

Oh yeah bigger context it sounds like there's some baggage on her end there. Maybe some people really have a hard time seeing others with things that they want. I know I'd like to try my hand at plant CZcams but I don't have the time or energy. I don't have the more expensive plants I like, but I do like seeing people with them talk about them. I don't feel any jealousy, but I generally am not a jealous person, you know? I want everyone to succeed.
You have the power of muting someone, but sometimes even that can just be fuel to the fire.
I used to moderate for a certain website that has a lot of discussion forums and I just think some people are super unstable. Those people tend to have a lot of time on their hands because they're not probably very socially entertained. It isn't on you to be their place to vent.

Also so what if you ARE a pandemic plant mommy? I don't know your life so IDK if you are or aren't, but we all had a major change happen globally and we're all finding ways to be happy and fulfilled with a whole new way of life. There is nothing wrong with people having the time to discover a new interest in the face of something bigger that we have no control over.
I know that I took it up with SERIOUSNESS around the start of the pandemic, but I was a few months pregnant when it hit and absolutely terrified of losing my child because there wasn't a vaccine for ANYONE yet. There still isn't one for his age (

@@lesliegg they actually sell them at most of my local nurseries! I believe they’re marketed as orchid pots. I’m pretty sure you should be able to find some online if you search “translucent orchid pot” or “clear orchid pot” ? And all of my clear glass vessels are from the thrift store!
