Hastings is a town on England’s southeast coast. It's known for the 1066 Battle of Hastings, fought on a nearby field where Battle Abbey now stands.
Two points of interest dominate the character of the bustling East Sussex town of Hastings - the sea and 1066. One of the medieval Cinque Ports, Hastings has long had a close relationship with the ocean, and although its fishing industry has declined, it still has Europe's largest beach-launched fishing fleet.
Today the town offers a range of attractions for the short break visitor looking for what to do in Hastings. From Britain's steepest funicular, to the meandering alleyways of the Old Town, it's a great place to explore for a few days.
Bexhill is just a short cycle ride or bracing seafront stroll from Hastings as far as elegant Bexhill, the birthplace of British motor racing.
Visit the nearby town of Battle and see the site of the famous 1066 Battle of Hastings at Battle Abbey.
The history-rich town of Hastings retains the character and charm of a Victorian seaside resort. Explore the lanes and passageways of the Old Town, lined with vintage shops, boutiques and welcoming cafés. Small independent art galleries line the streets to sell their art that is heavily influenced by the surrounding landscapes. When you're on the beach, don't miss the famous black fishing huts that line the seafront.
A seaside resort that developed in Victorian times, Hastings retains its old-world charm with its seafront squares, grand Victorian facades, elegant parks and pier full of good old-fashioned amusements.
The medieval Old Town offers a chance to explore the narrow passageways with an enticing array of independent cafés, restaurants and shops selling art, antiques, flowers and food.

Hastings Pier has recently been refurbished to its former glory. When the elegant pier first opened in 1872, on the site of a submerged prehistoric forest, it was the pride and joy of the town.
