i went here for 2 summers when i was 12-13yo, and i can tell you right now, the drama at this camp was NOT manufactured. that camp was so toxic when it came to drama. everyone was trying to date eachother and everyone trying to fight eachother. this is such a surreal video to watch
Ive got to say, its not crazy to think that a bunch of pre-teens with impulse control issues would cause drama. đ
That just sounds like camp for teens. It's real clicky and I knew a few that only became counselors cause some dude or chick they liked was doing it hoping to get laid. That was just camp. I never went to any camp except a church camp my sisters friend invited us to when I was in 4th grade. I made my mom pick me up cause we weren't religious and they frickin woke us at 5:30am to pray for an hour from 6-7 BEFORE BREAKFAST!
I CRIED MY EYES OUT til they called my mom. My sister stayed the 3 weeks.

i was in the same position when i was her age, medications that made me put on weight and other kids were so awful to me and i wasn't mature enough to really understand that they were just being jerks.. kind of brought some stuff up for me again

I weighed 300lbs in 6th grade, and you can probably guess the issues I have. I have extreme social issues, and can't successfully reproduce due to my inability to be a normal human.
â@_Wheels_21 If you are younger than 30 you have plenty of time to "reproduce" and become a "normal" human. Small goals. Dont be depressed your whole life, do something about it, only you can.

Fun fact: when I was 13 years old and was 5â4â 150 pounds I was sent to this exact fat camp (if itâs the one I think it is in the Poconos in Pennsylvania) and I developed an eating disorder right around my 14th birthday almost exactly one year after being sent there. I lost weight at the same rate while suffering from anorexia as I did while at the camp because I also didnât eat and exercised compulsively at camp and the following year. The difference was I stopped after leaving camp and then I didnât stop the next year. I took diet pills and didnât eat anything- nothing. I mean nothing. Not one bite of food- for an entire week when I was 15 and I developed acidosis. Thatâs when your blood becomes too acidic too support life and you slip into a coma. I got better for a few years as an adult but relapsed when my dad got sick and then died when I was 30. They tried to commit me. These camps were⊠not the best thing. However they were very much âof their timeâ - I grew up during the worst time for young women since the Victorian age when it came to forcing women to starve themselves. The same ideals drove both time periods and still exist today- the idea that fat = indulgence and women should always be sacrificing and going without. Women who indulge in anything that doesnât benefit men or their children are seen as lazy, ungrateful, unworthy, disgusting, etc.
Hooolllyyyy wow⊠your comment had me stunned sideways. I hope you got some help, counseling, therapy, etc. so that you could learn to appreciate yourself and learn your worth.
It's in new york
That's wild... thank you for sharing your story. I've always been self conscious about being to skinny my whole life. Everyone else in my family is/was over weight so I was always the outcast. It's weird how it can go both ways. But your situation was definitely worse off than mine in that regard. I hope you are doing well now a days â€
I mean it's okay to indulge a LITTLE, but weight gain and over-indulgence is bad for anyone of any gender. You don't have to be a perfectly lean 95 lbs, but being overweight will also make you feel terrible, of course not saying you are.

This video makes us realize the importance of effectively addressing self-esteem and mental health issues among the youth. The fat-shaming, bullying, and constant drama in the show have undoubtedly made their mark on the participants. MTV could have truly made a positive impact on these youngsters' lives instead of exploiting them for drama and ratings.
Kind of wonder what it did to us about learning to react to conflict. We watched this knowing it was on tv and everyone knew them and it was just entertainment but for people who grew up without healthy conflict resolution, personally made it hard bc home domestic violence and then this was cool on tv
In Florida there is a at risk youth military academy on a national guard base. Itâs for the ages 16-17. You are able to make up high school credits or get your GED there. The crazy thing was that I turned 18 the day before I went to the academy. So they let me in. I definitely felt the age difference believe it or not. Especially when youâre living with these people. I ended up actually getting my high school diploma there. Really turned my life around. Ended up joining the marine corps afterwards.

I'm of the thought Diane, who keeps getting bullied for being smelly, was already suffering from some nasty depression. The showering thing is a big flag there. I really felt sorry for the kid. I will never understand why people are bullies and go after the seen as weaker people.
Itâs a shower so people should take them
@@WAHOOOOOO-nn7jr when people have depression, some signs are the lack of showering, lack of energy (often leading to skipping showers due to the amount of energy to take them), closing off friends, in some adolescents it can also be characterized by aggressive behaviors. When I was at the height of my depression, i rarely left my bed, only to eat and go to school. I stopped showering simply because i did not have the energy for it. She is teenager, who after a long day, is too tired to take a shower. This could either be just exhaustion, or she was already depressed and couldn't motivate herself to do anything more. /gen

Honestly in 2006 it was a lot less about health and a lot more about weight loss. When I was a kid at that time my mom had me on the Slimfast diet repeatedly, she let me try the baby food diet, she wanted me to lose weight by any method. Health was a secondary concern a lot of the time.
As a summer camp counselor, tensions get unnaturally high because everyoneâs homesick and youâre all stuck with ppl 24/7. These kids hated me so much I had to switch out of the cabin.
While I understand that they should kick out problematic kids after a certain point.
I was forced into a Christain camp. I fell in the snow and this demon kid came up and stomped on my hand. I fractured my pinky and they didn't punish the kid nor did they get me proper care. The nurse said "go grab snow". Like they should have tried to get X-rays to make sure it was okay.
The one I went to literally felt like a cult. Like waking up at 5/6 am to pray, breakfast, church session, lunch, more church, dinner, more church then bed. Maybe a game if there was time. It was horrible
Old TLC/MTV content is so unhinged and I'm here for it

I had a friend who went to this camp (a few years after filming) and I went up with her family for a visiting day and I remember not understanding why this program existed. The food wasnât even healthy.
That one girl with all the medical issues needed to be at a diabetes camp. Also she is right, the side effects to those medications are horrible. Some of them cause you to smell bad. I am a diabetic and finely decided to control it through diet and exercise. I feel so much better.

I hope Dianne is doing alright these days.
Diane mentioned something about her Thyroid, and that breaks my heart. It sounds like she likely had hypothyroidism, one major symptom and issue with that condition is weight gain and difficulty losing weight. Hypothyroidism is more common in women, and to my knowledge it isn't even a condition caused by obesity, it's more often caused by autoimmune dysfunctions/conditions. Not to mention the diabetes, poor Diane has an uphill battle to fight and she's just getting put on blast. Ofc you don't put in the effort, you wont get the results, but man. when your body is actively working against you, it's tough.

Kid Nation!! That was a wild show..
After coming back from the fast paced videos from 2021, I'm loving the direction you took this channel
It's really sad that these parents are monetizing their kids and sending them off to do things like this when these kids are all still at the stage where they can fix the obesity issue at home with a healthy diet and just getting out and doing things with their children. Instead they're going to give these kids trauma around health and exercise, and that's only going to make their health worse.
