That second on where the big guy has his back seems like an easy choke
The guys has his arms around the small guys chest, but move them up 12 inches and now you got a bigger man choking you out

A guy is not punching or grabbing you with busted wrists and fingers. They are extremely effective, whether or not the perp feels the pain. Wrist locks lock up all the joints to the shoulder when done correctly and provides mechanical compliance along with pain

Agreed. They have their place in your self defense arsenal. For normal, not drunk or high individuals the pain from a broken finger or damaged joint can be enough to buy you a chance to escape. For attackers that are highly intoxicated the mechanical compliance is more important. Just understand locking techniques need to happen with speed and followed up with strikes to disorient an attacker so you can make your escape.

Two of the mist useless techniques i have seen taught, and learned, in martial arts are 1) the bruce lee finger jab to the eyes, and 2) small joint manipulation/hypertension. Wont create the advantage that many other moves can. (Same gies for pepper spray, but i heard theres been some upgrades since ive formed my opinion on the matter)

I don't think they are garbage, on the contrary, i believe that they are quite effective. Its how one goes to apply these locks that may make them less effective in that sometimes a strike may be used first to set the opponent up for the joint lock, therefor making it more effective. Just my 2 cents.

Agrees, a strike can a good distraction to buy you an opening. Also, a strike at the end of a lock is also a great distraction for your escape.

Yeah no small joint manipulation allowed in MMA. I've always heard a guy jacked on adrenaline won't respond the same way to this but it could possibly help you to break a stronger guys grip just long enough for you to get space to mount an offense 🤷 Personally I've never tried it in a street fight tho.

They work, except against a good kicker, not.
