Metal Detecting GOLD Nugget In Rocky Mountains! (Minelab GPX 6000 and Equinox 800)

- During a week long dredging trip I did some metal detecting for GOLD using a Minelab GPX 6000 and Equinox 800! This area has been heavily worked over the years. We are never deterred by that though, the old timers missed some great gold! We always pull out beautiful chunky gold! This trip was my best trip yet! you need to check out Bill Southern, Nugget shooters journals. He's out of Wickenburg AZ. He uses Minelab detectors exclusively. He can probably tell you exactly why your 6000 wasn't picking up that nugget. he's also a Minelab dealer and gives in the field training for nugget hunters. He knows his stuff.
Thank you for the advice! I watched some of his 6000 videos before I left for my trip. I'm the type of person that learns better while out doing it. So I probably didn't retain enough information from his videos.
The detector has what appears to be a speaker feedback loop causes that unstable threshold, Minelab has been fixing these detectors or if less than 30 days old will give you a full package replacement. The GPX 6000 does not have any iron discrimination, so it will hear all metals. Please join the Detector Prospector forum by Steve Herschbach for very detailed information on all gold detectors. @Prospecting For Adventure well, mainly I've been learning about diving/sniping. But learning in all forms. Watch all kinds of channels and apply it to where I'm st and what I'm doing. In Northern California at the moment having fun. Back to the Oregon coast soon where I have some unique special spots that I plan to investigate hard. Thanks again my friend

@@prospectingforadventure it's a good thing to be aware of for sure. That's most likely what that animal skeleton is from. Few years ago my uncle was using a deer call and he turned around to get back on the trail and noticed a cougar getting ready to pounce. Luckily he had his gun with him.
It's definitely something I think about. I've seen fresh tracks in the snow. One time, I walked through an area and there were no tracks. On my way back out, there were new tracks. When the hair on the back of my neck stands up, I start to back out. Lol I'm normally packing when I'm solo.
I've been binge watching Equinox 800 vs gold detectors for a few hours today. I'm still just as confused as to why these gold machines are $6000 compared to $900 for the Equinox 800. I read that the big machines are great on depth but everyone in videos is finding stuff 3-4" down...
The 6k is pulse induction technology. Which is where the depth typically comes from. Depth has a lot of variables like mineralization, target size and the type of deposit. I've found placer gold with the 800, but we're talking coil on clean bedrock. Same with the gold monster 1k. I think you'll get better depth for gold compared to the 800, but not by much.
As far as the cost goes, I think you're basically paying for the research and development behind the machine. Plus the manufacturers name. Yes, the 6k is more powerful, but does it have $5k worth of additional technology? Probably not...
I have seen a lot of 6000 s in use and you definintly should be able to pick uo that nugget, You should take your detector and the nugget to your nearest reputable dealer. Sometimes a detector will make it to market tha dont quite work right. I have heard of this more than once. It happen to me with Garrets most expensive machine.. Good luck an always try to keep a test nugget with you that you can throw down an push into the ground just tu know everything is working right. I

My ORX would scream on those so you 6k should have no problem.
One thing you can do is find playgrounds with wood chips and hunt it with the 6k, you will pull a lot of foil etc but the small jewelry like earing backs etc will get you in tune.

Hey first off just to let you know that GPx 6000 is half as sensitive in auto compared to manual I was cringing watching your video thinking that you're gonna have to walk back over everything you just detected

My primary focus on that trip was dredging. I figured there would be a learning curve with the 6k.
Run your detector not in auto I like 7 clicks you should be able to hear tiny pieces like .1 of a gram
