I admire both Aretha and Whitney so bad that I don't mind if people put one or another first in their own ranking. To me both of them are as good as it gets. There's a realm of music that I just call “greatness”, and I don't feel bothered about comparing them anymore at that level, it's all greatness. It's the same with like Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie, both are greatness, and for me it's as good as it can ever be, so no comparison anymore.

I love this interview. Real people of God, no matter what the background story may be, they saw each other in His light instead of their own. They understood the greater being who existed on the inside. It was controversial and unfavorable for the Winans to be with Whitney, but they held their convictions against religious naysayers and was there for her when all others had forsaken, used, talked about, and given up on her. They were there till the end and celebrated her life at her home-going funeral. When you find the kindred spirit, don't let ANYONE discourage you from being with them. They unlocked each other's potential and greatest expression of themselves. That's why they instantly click. They shared purpose and destiny.

Being on campus alone on the weekends, far from home and family, no transportation, and poor; I’d turn on the radio, study, pray, and ask God to “Help Me Hold Out.” The encouraging messages in their music is not only uplifting, but gives hope and feeds my soul. 🙏🏼
