I’ve been looking for a rack, this one looks very encouraging for a lot of reasons.
It has working out great for me.
I JUST heard about the Young Electric racks today and was happy to see you reviewed the Sole. Since we'll be needing a dual rack, thanx for mentioning the MATE.
As I said yesterday, Scott...glad I found you!!
Hi Ric! I am pretty sure my discount will work on the Mate as well. Glad to be a resource for you!
I’ll give it a try when we’re ready. Thanx, Scott!
Scott thank you!
My pleasure!
Love the ramp, light weight, easy to secure to rack.. I prefer the tray style. No lifting. For my Aventon Sinch e bike.
yes. They started adding the ramp when you purchase the rack.
My Aventon Sinch 2 e bike fits very securely.
Purchased via Amazon. 1 bike rack with ramp.
Great 👍
I am very picky about racks and often give other riders a hard time about using sub-par carriers but this looks really nice.
I definitely had confidence in it after putting it to the weight limit and putting 80miles of highway travel and speed with it. I am definitely glad I have it.
Sold Out ☹
@@iscootct That was quick. I hope more come in soon.
Probably every ebiker wanted to be just like Scott H.
@@iscootct hahahaha... Yikes.
Well maybe when they restock I will able to purchase the dual bike rack. Thanks
Fingers crossed!
I like it.....
It is nice. Plus, that price is right.
Great review. I wish it up. Do you leave the rack on your car when you're not traveling with the bike or do you take it off?
I take it off the car. Since I am not able to fold it up, I fear I might forget its on there if I don't have bike on the back and smack into something. With that said, this is still my goto rack.
I have been looking for a rack to hold the weight of a surron. People recommend me the 1up USA rack, but they are a little too expensive. The surron weighs around 110, and without the battery, that's like 15 pounds less. This could be a good option 🤔
That sounds like it will work!
Do you have any problems with the bike tyres heating from the exhaust. The type looks to be straight in front of the exhaust and there is no defector.
I do not.
Have you tried young electric fellow or mate bike rack for 2 bikes?
I have not. but if it SOLE works great for one, I expect the MATE to work great for 2.
Hey Scott, will an aventon abound fit on this?
Absolutely. They now offer the ramp with the rack so it's no longer an additional purchase.
Would be nice to have a threaded locking hitch pin to secure the bike instead of the hitch pin they provide that is held on by a cotter pin, which is not secure in any way from theft. I have looked and can not find a threaded locking hitch pin that would work, cant find the right diameter and thread count. Have you looked into this at all? Any help would be great.
I have not looked into this. I know another viewer has been looking with no luck so far. He even contacted Young Electric to see if they had one they could sell him. Currently, they do not. I would say that this is the only downside of this rack so far.
Any after market one yall using?
A number 16 socket wrench: 16mm - 5/16ths ?
Great question. No clue. hahaha. I just know the 16mm works.
Hi Scott can you please help me where I can get a mooncool bike charger
I think you are going to have to reach out to Mooncool support on that one.
General question . How much does a bike on a bike rack effect gas mileage? Your personal experiences.
No clue. I never pay attention to gas mileage. Maybe someone else will have that answer.
the straps its holds good thats the question because seams to me its a weak point, very good rack for talaria or sur-ron ebikes for carry
The straps hold excellent. No issues. The first time you are constantly thinking about them but I have used this rack over 20 times by now and I trust them 100%.
Great Review. Do you know if it sits far enough back to use on a Jeep Wrangler with the spare tire there?
That I do not know. I don't have a vehicle like that. It sticks out pretty far (just realized I didn't do a side shot of it) but you could reach out to them and ask.
I did ask them and they weren't sure either. From the outside edge of my receiver to outside edge of my spare tire it's 8 inches. I bought the rack and an extension to my reciever for an extra $19 so either way it will fit. Thanks for getting back to me :) @@scotthardesty
@@W0rldCitizen I was going to measure it out for you (now that I knew your distance) but since you got the extender you will be good to go.
I should be and I'll reply whether or not I needed the extender for my Jeep. Jeeps are hard to find bike racks for and I'm sure you have a few subscribers who would be interested :) @@scotthardesty
@@scotthardesty Got my rack and installed it. Looks like I did need an extension but it was VERY close! I think my spare tire is standard size but from the end of my hitch it's about 8 inches. The vertical bar DOES go up behind the spare tire but it rubs the tire. In the end I used a 7 inch extension to my hitch which may have been a bit overkill. If there is such a thing as a 2 -3 inch extension that would work! Hopefully this helps your Jeep Subscribers. Great rack outside of that!
Any issue with blocking license plate?
Nope.
Which locks do you recommend and how to use it with this bike rack so it does not get stolen?
This is my goto lock. Which can wrap around the tire or frame and still placed thru the rack. FoldyLock Compact Folding Bike Lock amzn.to/3HHcGX1
@@scotthardesty- Virtually identical to the Lectric locks we have. Great minds! 😉
I purchase the dual rack from young electric, its built well but heavy, I'm looking to see if there is a m16 thread locking hitch pin, can't seem to find, only 5/8 thread. let me know if you seen one . thanks
I wasn't sure of the specs of the bolt myself, so this helps for sure!
@@scotthardesty How do you secure your bike rack to the vehicle? I am trying to locate a threaded hitch pin with lock, cant seem to find one that will fit this rack. Have you looked? There are lots of unthreaded hitch pin locks, but don't want to lose the wobble free that the threaded pin provides. Did you find one that will work?
@@KMPinVT I haven’t actually looked. When I transport a bike with that rack, I use the threaded bolt it came with and normally go places where I don’t need to be concerned about the rack security to the car. You can always put a small lock thru the hole where the cotter pin goes. I do think that this bolt could be upgraded to a locking one if someone wants and Young Electric would be silly not to make one. Have you reached out to them?
@@scotthardesty I contacted Young Electric today, thinking the same thing you did, others must want this as well. Sadly, they dont offer such a piece, and did not have much info of where to get one. I suggested to him they should be selling these, as I would think these would sell well, he said he would take that forward as suggestion, doesnt help me right now. I asked the thread pitch of the rack to have confirmation of what I need to find. he didnt know, he was going to reach out to factory and get back to me. He was trying to help, still searching...
@@KMPinVT I hope you find something! then share it. hahahaha
the solo is 280 do you have a discount that we can use as i want to see the dual as well?
They just gave me a discount code. It's SCOTT10
The code can be used on the checkout page and works for all three types of bike racks😊
I can’t get the link to work for the rack. I’m very interested in this rack and would like a way to contact Young Electric. Any help would be appreciated. Ok not only does the website not load the phone number says it’s not working. Is this company still in business? An answer would be appreciated.
I just tried the link and it worked for me. Maybe google search "Young electric SOLE bicycle Rack." Don't forget to use SCOTT10 discount code to say some $$$. Here is the long version of that link. youngelectricbikes.com/collections/hitch-bike-rack/products/young-electric-sole-hitch-bike-rack-2-receiver-100-lbs-capacity
I finally got it to work. They are no longer selling the sole as they are getting ready to roll out the sole with a ramp. The person I talked to told me they had a couple of display models and I ended up buying one of those at a discount.
Sadly I highly doubt this would work on my Civic. It’s the one thing I hate about it is that I can’t get my e-bike to work with it.
Yeah, you have to have a 2" hitch on the back of your car.
Is the runner that the tires sit in aluminum or metal? I'm considering the Mate for 2 E-bikes but I'm concerned that the bikes will block my trucks tail lights. I'd like to get a set of those wireless magnetic trailer lights and attach them to the underside of the runners #1 for safety and #2 to prevent being stopped by the police because my tail lights are obstructed.
Hmmmmm... That's a good question. I don't know and I don't want to be wrong about this. You will need to contact them directly.
@scotthardesty if you don't mind and if you have a magnet could you place it on one of the runners and see if the magnet sticks? If it stocks that means the runner is metal. If it doesn't that means it's aluminum. I'm looking at 2 different Young brand racks. I like the Maye better as it looks more stout but I'm concerned the runner may be aluminum. The other rack I'm considering just has a metal bar that I know will work but and concerned about it not being as sturdy even though it too is rated for 200 lbs.
@@maxum3300 I am up at our cabin, so it will take a couple days to get you that answer.
@@scotthardesty OK no problem. Thanks.
@@maxum3300 I can confirm that it IS metal. My magnet stuck to the front tire cradle.
Sold out :( i want one
I understand why they would be sold out. They raised the price but added the loading ramp making it cheaper than purchasing both. That's looking out for their customers!
HTML !!!!
Good eye. I've been building websites since 2003.
@@scotthardestyI am gay as well
@@alexjones6190 I hope that’s working out for ya!
only thing that sucks is Young does nothing for 1 and a quarter hitch which everyone else does.. fucking bonkers. I mean if my vehicle had a 2 inch hitch I probably wouldn't need a solo rack.
I get that but it would also not be able to hold a 100lbs is my thought process behind not doing the 1 1/4."
@@scotthardesty class 1 is up to 200 pounds tw.
@@MaNameizJeff Interesting. I did not know that. Maybe reach out to them as and ask?
