Lata Mangeshkar was one artist who could never see any female playback singer rise. She always suffered with a lot insecurity. A person with a exceptional voice but not a good heart. I know many people wouldn't agree with my comment but these things my grandma & mom used to tell me

10000% agreeed... iam from pakistan.. but i have listen this kind of things about Lata ji.. Although Lata was a great singer but on the other side she ruined the career of other female singers like Suman Kalyanpur And Mubarak Begum.. unfortunately This is the very Dark side of Lata jii..
Ammaz Qaiser yes my mom & nani ji had told me that she couldn’t tolerate competition. She didn’t even like her sisters Asha ji & Usha ji to come to the Hindi film industry to do playback. Although Asha Bhonsle had a unique voice & style so she stayed.

There is no doubt that Mubarak Begum is one of the best playback singer of India... BUT comparing her with Lata ji is not fair. I firmly believe we all must refrain from comparing the artists with each other , they are all Gems in their own ways and styles. We are lucky to have so much varieties. May Allah bless her with peace and reward her with jannat aaliya. Aameen.

How come I've never heard of her until now? She was so talented and had such a great voice and yet she struggled to feed her children. So awful- she should've been given more opportunities to sing and provide for her family. I hope life turned out okay for her children in the end.

Lata did not win the game. She told music directors if they gave Mubarak Begum work she will not sing for them. She has the best suited voice for meena kumari. Listen to her in Daera

Thank you for bringing this person to everyone's notice. Such an unfortunate life. A very talented singer but with very little business sense, from what I have heard. People took good advantage of her. Everyone but a handful forgot about her. She was receiving a pension of around 1000 INR when she passed away, hardly enough to even take care of herself leave alone her son, DIL and grandkid. Why is it that we never do anything for these people (former celebrities, as well) when they are alive, and need our help the most, but talk great things about them after they are gone having had to fight all sorts of things?

I love her unique voice, The first song kabhi tanhayion speaks of her talent. She sang it with so much soul… sad she never got recognized because of Bollywood politics .

No words for her singing talent...My misfortune that never ever met her....during her difficult days, I was told,she shifted to Ahmedabad,where her relative was staying but she could n't settled in a Textile Town...returned to Mumbai...Year 1992, I was in Regina, Canada on a Govt of India Computer Project and was invited over a lunch by Hindu family from Utter Pradesh of India....The Lady, chief of the house sang few songs and you want believe she created Mubarak Begum and Noorjhan live....Sad, Mubarak Begum died in a poverty.....it should be consider as a National Shame....

So many outrageous comments against Lata here. She came from a difficult background and rose up for her talent and hardwork. Moreover, it's because of her that singers have such recognition and that they receive royalty for commercial success of the songs (Rafi was too complaisant to care about such vital issues). Lata is Lata, and you cannot blame her for other people's misery. Now, just put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Yes a beautiful voice. When Lata came on the scene, it was the music directors who were mesmerised by her voice that they all wanted her to sing for them. They gradually started giving less or secondary items to Shamshad Begum. Lata at that time was the sole earner in her family of 5-6 people and one could not blame her to work hard to feed her family.
It is unfair to blame her for the misfortune of Shamshad Begum. The blame lies with the music directors.
Shamshad Begum had distinct voice, which suited to certain genres. While Lata’s would suit any genres or actress. That talent or God’s gift took her to the heights. I am sure that no real artist would grudge that.
This ghazal was given to Shamshad Begum because Lata was busy, that shows that she had no need and time for pettiness of destroying anyone’s career.
In singing the voice of an artist is every person’s individual choice.
I think we as listeners should celebrate that we are fortunate enough to have lived in the era of great singers like Shamshad Begum, Lata, Asha, Rafi.etc.

I had once seen her interview in which she made the mangeshkar sisters responsible for destroying her career and i heard such accounts about other brilliant singers too. Not fair to make sweeping comment about her admirers. When they learnt of Mubarak Begam's condition, help did start coming. It was not enough but her fans tried their best to make life easy for her.
