One of the best hacks for grease stains I’ve found is generously sprinkling baby powder over the spots (on still dry clothing) rub it in to make sure it’s covering the stain and let it sit overnight. Toss it in the wash the next morning and the stains are always gone.
Nice! That’s a good tip. Makes sense that it would have a similar affect to the baking soda. I’ll have to try that next time. Thanks for sharing!
Seems like you could use plain cornstarch too as that's the main ingredient in many modern baby powders.
Tried this. Didn’t work. Maybe I didn’t use strong enough detergent???
i’m trying this.
@@sweetesthoneybeeI think it may only work on new stains, if you’ve washed the garment multiple times it’s likely already set in the cotton.
Yahoo!!! It worked. I paid attention to how you had to do a second round by being extra attentive to the spots by putting Dawn on the spots then cover the whole area with baking soda. I used a nail brush to carefully brush the whole area. You saved a brand new dress I bought for the summer. Thank you thank you!! 😊
Awesome! I’m so happy to hear that it worked for you!
You're a lifesaver. I used this method on a shirt with a grease stain I had already washed & dried & it still worked. Thank you!
I’m so happy to hear it worked for you! I love that you can still apply this method after you’ve dried the article of clothing. Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
Instead of putting in the washer I just filled the sink with water and put laundry soap on the stained area but like a lot of soap 😂 I scrubbed the stain just rubbing the fabric together and air-dried. It is perfect now! Thank you so much for these tips!
Awesome! Glad it worked for you, thanks for sharing your method and for watching the video!
This just worked for my brand new Carhartt jacket and papa John's garlic butter sauce. Thank you!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching.
I got a stain from the same thing
Hello good sir, I just wanted to tell you, that I tried the method that you suggested, with the difference that I left the solution for several hours before putting it in the washing machine. It worked like a charm, one of my favorite dressy outfits was saved thanks to this home hack. Thank you so much!
I saw your video and tried your method. I got oil splatter on two of my almost new, favorite t-shirts. Success! Though I did leave my t-shirts with Dawn and baking soda 3-4 days to penetrate. I only did the treatment once but I took my time with a tooth brush gently scrubbing over and over on the spots. Do not scrub too hard so not to break fabric fibers or create pilling. You saved me from throwing my two shirts away. Thank you so much! Gave you thumbs up and subscribed.
Yay! So glad this helped! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and for the sub!
Came back to this to say thank you. You saved my $150 RRL Henley from an oil based hair product bottle that came unscrewed in my suitcase. I did the dish soap and baking soda just like you said. The only small difference is that I put the detergent on top and let them all sit together instead of rubbing in the detergent prior to the wash. They sat rolled up for about four days and I only had to send it through once. This is a life-hack that I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.
AWESOME! Thanks for stopping back by to share, Davin - I’m so glad it helped you. I know how expensive RRL clothing is, so I would have been freaking out in your position. Baking soda has so many uses, it’s crazy. Thanks again for sharing your success story with me and for watching!
my sons are going to live in college and now without mommy is nice to find your channel to help them out. Will share this video with them. thank you
Thank you!
This worked perfectly on the first attempt! Thank you SO much for sharing this!
Yay! I’m so glad. Thanks for watching!
Forgot to say that if you use the dryer the stains will set. Thank you 4 your video.
You saved me from buying another pair of $55 nike joggers! Thank you so much
Awesome - glad it worked for you! Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much, my lad came home with oil and whatever was on the tyre It was new and he got it All over his brand new top ( it was bright yellow and I did what you suggested. The first time to took the most of it out and the same again and they was no oil stain. Again A big thank you
Glad this method worked for you! Thanks for watching and for your kind feedback!
This method overall worked. Nice video!
JesiahTheBaller glad to hear it helped you. Thanks for watching!
Thanks a lot! Saved my wife's new shirt. Worked awesome with first treatment
Awesome - glad it worked for you! Thanks for watching.
I can’t believe it got out a stain from my black shirt. Now there is only one left. Thankyou so much this hack is crazy!
Baving soda with vinegar works too!
Hey I’m so glad to hear it worked for you! Thanks so much for watching!
1:39 is why you’re here
Tysm
I’m gonna try this, I already did it and it’s sitting now. So I’ll update in a few hours
Update: IT WORKED HOLY SHIT 😭😭
I hope it works for you! 🤞🏻
Gonna try this method out on my favourite hoodie
Did it work?
Goof Off helps too. Or greased lightening
Makes sense - thanks for watching and for the tip!
Thanks for this video! Seems simple and easy. I can't wait to try this out! My husband works with a grill and his work clothes has so much grease stains. I could not figure out what to do with it!
It really is a simple solution! Hope it works wonders for his clothes. Thanks for watching and for subscribing to the channel!
you go through all this for your husband? will you marry me?
Good tip. Works well. Saves having to replace your clothes
Glad to hear it worked out for you. Thanks for watching!
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!! I have my favorite green crew neck, and it has grease stains from when I cook, this helped so much!
If anybody here has a blow dryer just get warmish water in the stain area and really rub it in with a rag, then use a blow dryer to dry that small patch of grease and it’s literary all gone, takes a few minutes and you’ll be on ur way
4:50 for me this is just too tremendous
Just water and no dawn or bs?
Naw anything warm
Almost seals the grease stain
@@judymccluskey4563 def bs . I just got Grease on my shirt today and used warmish water with some laundry detergent that couldn’t even get it out. Anything warm almost seals the stain in your clothes
Well, if you dummies can’t get the shit stains off, I recommend a OxiClean stain remover bottle, should do the trick mighty fine!
I am doing your treatment plan right now, I'm letting it soak. You've given me hope!
Hope it works for you!
@@gcfun WOW!!! It worked on a new top that I had recently gotten grease on. So, I took another top that I had gotten grease on about a year ago and tried it with that one and it worked!!! I have a closet full of tops like that! Did I say ... thank you very much?
@@samsmom400 ah yay! I’m so glad it worked for you! Thanks for sharing and for watching!!
This worked. Had a small green stain on a button down shirt that I thought I would have to donate but now I don’t.
Simple Green is also great for grease stains.
Thanks brother applied this method to my favorite hoodie I own which I only gotten 3 or so wears out of and now I can go back to appreciating it 🙂
Glad to hear it worked out for you, Carlos! Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
Gotta try this. I have a brand new Hoodie same issue.
Do you think this would work for nike tech fleece or ruin it? I got a bit of chicken grease on it a couple weeks ago and now it’s stained
Just dropped a bagel with butter on my new hoodie from my boyfriend 🙈. Fingers crossed this works!!
Thoroughly rinse it off first. Then follow this method and keep me posted! 🤞🏻
Saved me a sweatshirt! Phew! I was embroidery machining a sweatshirt. I’m going to try on my old sweatshirts!!! I wonder if it only works if it is freshly greased only.
Glad this info helped you! It should work even with grease stains that have set in. Might just take multiple rounds of using this method. Thanks for watching!
Does this work if the shirt or clothing object has been washed once?
Yes, but you may have to repeat the steps a few more times depending on the results. Even if it’s been through the dryer, this can still work but may require you to rinse and repeat (literally) a few more times to achieve the desired results. Good luck!
Bro just bought an expensive sweater in light blue and got grease my first time wearing it. I tried hand washing it with tide and the dam stain still didn’t come out. I didn’t dry it so I’m hoping there’s still hope to get it out but I’m ready to go to the dry cleaner I’m dealing with one spot that bugs me it’s smaller than a dime.
Oh no! Yep - because you didn't dry it, there's still hope! Try the baking soda and dish soap method I outline here! It may take a few times like it did for me, but you should be able to get it out! It isn't cashmere, is it? That might change things...
i wish youtube was this informative when i was buying/flipping supreme clothes in 2014, even took it to the dry cleaners and they couldn't work with the grease
I appreciate the comment and am glad you were able to learn from this video. Thanks for watching!
I've had great success by vigorously rubbing a wet bar of Sunlight on the grease-spot prior to washing. Also took me 2 cycles, but it was very easy
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
But the shirt looks faded now. I've done this also and it fades the material.
The easiest way to stop grease from staining your clothes before you wash it apply baby powder to the spots it will keep it from staining
Does this work if the clothing is washed and dried?
Yes, but it may take a few applications of this method. The heat from the dryer can set the stain in, but not permanently in most cases. Good luck!
They work ONLY you have to let it sit for overnight at least 15hrs with bucket of warm water👍🏻
Thanks! My mom has this really cute pair of pink pants and she decided to use them for WORK PANTS😒 I’m going to rescue them because they’re cute and I want them but I need to get the grease out first😭
Hope the video helps - thanks for watching!
It's really difficult to keep track of all the the grease spots once you get scrubbing. Before I apply the baking soda and detergent I circle each of the spots with a Sharpie or fabric marker. Saves a lot of time.
Thanks for watching and sharing - that’s a good tip! I’m genuinely interested in the Sharpie part of your comment. Are you seriously using a Sharpie, or do they make a fabric/washable version I don’t know about?
@@gcfun it really only saves time because then you can proceed directly to throwing the garment out without even washing it, because the permanent ink will never wash out.
@@patricknorton5788 hmm alrighty then.
@@gcfun sorry, sarcasm doesn't come across well in text messages. I did use your technique and was able to save a shirt from the bin. Thanks for that.
@@patricknorton5788 lol
these are all my shirts each laundry day, i need an easy to put on/take off chef's apron. the cleaner companies need to start selling a jumbo bottle and formulation for just us greasers, thats a lot of effort for just the one sweater, id have like 29 more to go, lucky these are all horribly tacky novelty shirts for house pajamas anyway
DeanRendar84 I hear ya! It definitely takes some work and is not sustainable to do all the time. I’m not aware of an effective, off-the-shelf product that works as well though. 🤷🏼♂️ I’d be more than happy to try one though!
bro is a lifesaver worked first try.
I love to hear that! Thanks for watching, glad it helped you!
JUST A HEADS UP - if you scrub too hard you’ll lift the dye of your clothing out as well as the stain. I learned this the hard way on my favorite sweatshirt. Life. Goes. On…?
Totally joking by the way I’ll get over it!
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that was your experience and led you astray!
I spilled some used motor oil on a fairly new pair of blue jeans. I couldn’t get the stains out, so I dyed the pants black.
Nice. Yeah, motor oil would be tricky. Might require the big guns to even attempt to get out. I think your solution is pretty great thoigh
I love the results although it got cleaner area.. I wouldn’t say it ruined my shirt it just made it brighter
Thank you!! This worked like a charm on a shirt I thought was doomed.
Yay, I’m glad it worked for you! Thanks for watching
Wife a whole chef what was she cookin up to get that many stains😭😭
I don’t even remember but I often feel like I draw the short end of the stick with this whole “she cooks, I clean” arrangement 😂
Thanks for saving one of my favourite pairs of jeans bro
Awesome - glad it helped! Thanks for watching
I mess up a hoodie every week.
lol, I’m watching this looking to fix my light green hoodie.
Thanks for saving my ass, friend! Been cooking since I went to college and had this issue for a long time. Thanks to you all of my former greasy attire is finally clean again! Thanks, mate!
Glad to hear it worked for you! Thanks for the kind words and for watching. Cheers!
I need to try this. I feel like nothing gets grease stains out! 🥺
When my boys eat pizza, I make them take their shirts off lol 😆
Same thing with watermelon for whatever reason, it stains soooo bad!!!
Give it a whirl! I still use this method each and every time we have a grease stain problem haha. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Jackson Pollock
Oh, a fellow sophisticate
Idk if it's the cooking oil that's being used to cook in my food or what, but recently have been noticing these stains on my clothes that look like dark water patches that are permanently there and theyre getting on all of my clothes...gues they must be oil stains. I'm going to try this out.
Give it a whirl! I hope it solves your problem. Thanks for watching and good luck!
Do you have hard water? We do, and i have found by adding a teaspoon of citric acid as my softener, my clothes come out cleaner and definitely soft. My towels are way more absorbent, too. I'm just wondering if adding citric acid would help with getting the oil stains out?
I’m in GA and I’ve always heard we have soft water. The citric acid tip is of interest, I’ll have to try it out! Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!
@@gcfun I used to live in Sandy Springs and like most of GA we had clay like where I live in MD. You are most likely on public water whereas I’m on a well.
I spilt food on my Dare shirt and I guess it's working. thanks for the tips
rub some cocaine and bleach on it and the grease stain will magically disappear
does it work on old stains too? or does it more so work on new stains
You can try it on old stains! I’ve had some luck with stains that were set in, it may just take multiple tries. Good luck and thanks for watching!
So does the baking soda not stain into the item
In my experience, no. But I guess there might be a material out there that it could (just an example but I’m thinking like silk or something along those lines). It’s a pretty harmless cleaning agent though. Sorry that’s not more definitive - thanks for watching!
Damn, I just took it out the washer before coming across this video. The stains are still there but now my shirt is moist. Should I use this technique now or wait for the washed shirt to fry before applying your method
No need to wait! You can apply this method now. You may need to do it a couple of times. Hope it works for you.
@@gcfun hey This worked!!! I left it over night( it was night when I commented) and it worked
But what about those white soap spots. That's what I'm having trouble with.
Will it still work if I washed the piece of clothing already.
Hi Andrew, yes it should. The only potential issue would be if you ran it through the dryer. The heat sets those stains in, but all that would equate to is going through the process a few more times. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
@@gcfun I didn’t dry it once I washed it I airdryed it but didn’t put it in the dryer machine
I don't understand why you washed the sweatshirt in cold water... Wouldn't it work better to wash the garment in hot water? I must be missing something
Hot water makes clothing shrink
@@Inmate533 yep, this is why I always wash stuff in cold water! Thanks for watching!
I always wash my clothes on 30 °C and it works fine?
@@elmao4927 yeah, I think it’s somewhat preferential. I distinctly remember a few articles of mine shrinking when washing with warm water. Then I made the switch and only use cold water now. Whatever floats your boat. Then there are times that you need warm water to help bust up a stain, but for me when I do regular washing, I just use cold. 🤷🏼♂️
@@gcfun I guess it's better for the environment as well so I'll try it sometime :)
does this work on black clothing?
I used to use Shout in the blue bottle and it was fantastic. then they came out with the HE detergent and it stopped working.
This worked for me. Thanks!
Awesome, glad it worked! Thanks for watching.
The fabric looks to be white now or lost color : /
Hi Domi! Are you referencing the sweatshirt in my video, or your own clothing after trying this method? If you’re referencing my shirt, it actually didn’t lose color and may just be the lighting. If you’re talking about your own clothing, it shouldn’t have lost color due to this method - especially since I only used common, safe household products. Let me know, I’m happy to help if possible!
Thank you!! Any tips on getting ink & acrylic paints out ? I'm artist and welll. Ya know .... i get it everywhere 🙆♀️❤🌿
For ink, try rubbing alcohol. I first learned about this trick using hair spray, but the essential component to help remove ink is the alcohol. It may take a few washes, but I have had considerable luck with it. As for acrylic paint, from my quick Googling, it seems alcohol may be able to take care of it also. Doesn't hurt to try! You could use nail polish remover, alcohol-based hair spray or straight rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
@@gcfun thank you! I'll give that a try ✌
I didn't see the splatter until I had washed and dried my long sleeved tee shirt. Took it out of drier and there the stains were. Would this method work to get stains out? Thanks
Yes, but you may have to repeat the method a few times after going through the dryer cycle. The heat from the dryer will set a stain into the clothing. But as I said, it should work but may take a few times trying out this method. Good luck and thanks for watching!
How well is this stuff against bloodstains, because I have a few clown suits that are gimme a real hard time?
For your situation, add more baking soda for sure. Unrelated, but I have another video on sharpening knives. Idk why, but I feel like you may find it useful. Good luck!
@@gcfun Thanx. Cuz friday the 13th is coming up faat.
How would it look to my next victim, coming out of the shaows with a pre-bloodstained clownsuit on? [SMH] The shame.
this bro is cool as fuck
Can I wash my grease stained garments with my normal laundry after doing the scrub process, or should I wash them separately?? Thanks!
I’d try it! But let it air dry and don’t run it in the dryer afterwards. The heat from the dryer makes it set in. If it doesn’t work, repeat the process by itself (which you may have to do anyway, depending on how bad the stain is). Hope it helps and works for you!
I literally bought a new hoodie then spilt garlic sauce on it and it made grease stays in so pissed this shut better work 😭
Thank you! And I appreciate your honesty😀
Thanks for watching!
I used blue dish soap and now I have blue stains on my t-shirt
Make sure it’s rinsing well.
Does the color of the fabric get stripped off?
It depends on the material, but I would say in most/next to all cases no, it won’t. If it’s a garmet dyed or raw denim type material, maybe just given the nature of those textiles. But these being common household items, they aren’t harmful to most, I hope this helps! Good luck and thanks for watching!
Would this work with colored clothing? I have a blue hoodie I just bought that I regrettably got a couple little grease stains on. Don’t wanna ruin it even further on accident 😢
You should be good! The only consideration would be for clothing with dye that can rub off (think denim). I’d recommend you try a small, unassuming area first. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Going to try this tonight, just got a grease stain on my Astros Jersey 😭
Good luck! Let me know how it turns out and thanks for watching.
Iv got a pair of blue joggers that I stained cooking meatballs, I tried washing it then drying on the radiator. But the the stains still there, is it too late to try this method?
I’d still give this method a whirl! You may have to repeat it a couple of times, but it should work!
I am going to try it.
Hope this method helps you! Thanks for subscribing!
will using the baking powder method work on motor oil you think?
I’m honestly unsure, but it can’t hurt to try! Also, to clarify, use baking soda - I think baking powder is a whole different product. You will still want to use dish soap as a degreaser, then apply the baking soda and let it sit and do it’s thing before you wash. Feel free to keep me posted on how it goes. 🤞🏻 Good luck and thanks for watching!
You just saved my favorite 9line shirt!!! Thank you!
Should I wash the greased clothes alone or am I able to wash it with others?
You can wash them with other clothes.
gonna try to save my fav shirt from the rag pile wish me luck

@@gcfun thanks for the reply 😢🤢 gunna go try to fix this mess lol
Will this work for a shirt that has had the stain for like a month?

Does it work with white t shirts
Also just tried to so hopefully it works 🤞

What other dish soap can i use? Or can it be any?
The brand shouldn’t matter so long as the soap is a degreaser. I hope it helps! Thanks for watching
I did this method but i guess i scrubbed it to hard now the grease spot is a faded spot on a grey hoodie, any recommendations how to fix that?
Really? Dang. Was it some kind of garment dyed material? Sorry, I don’t have any tips for that right now but will look into it and let you know if I come across anything,
@@gcfun yea it’s actually a Adidas x Daniel Patrick Grey hoodie I believe I scrubbed it to hard and the color kinda faded out on the spot, I wonder if i were to re dye it if it would somehow bring it back to how it was. But yea that’s my fault, They method you showed works great just messed up on my end haha
Same here ☹️ don’t scrub too hard
Yeah used baking soda and it fucked in my clothes
Sorry to hear that. What kind of material are your clothes? Baking soda is a safe ingredient for most fabrics, which is even why it’s in a lot of detergents.
Would this work on existing (old) grease stains?
Yes, it may take a few attempts but keep applying the method and it will work! Thanks for watching and good luck!
Thanks for this video… it works

It should still work, but may require sitting longer or more applications. It can be annoying, but rewarding if you have the patience! Good luck and thanks for watching!
SHOULD you air dry or can you use the machine?
Some people say the heat from the dryer will set stains in, which is why my preference is to air dry
