The Queen Meets Jeff Beck... And Has No Idea Who He Is (2005)

- Jeff Beck, the iconic British guitarist, has sadly died aged 78. Having replaced Eric Clapton as a guitarist in the Yardbirds alongside Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, over the decades Jeff Beck continued to experiment and innovate with sound, influencing successive generations of guitarists along the way.
Here, Jeff is seen meeting Queen Elizabeth II alongside Clapton and Page and Queen guitarist Brian May at a reception for the British music industry at Buckingham Palace in March 2005. The hilarious fact that the Queen evidently had no idea who they were was remarked on at the time, however Eric Clapton defended her from criticism. "It's great to meet her," Clapton told Associated Press, "and it doesn’t matter at all that she did not know who were are or what we do... I wouldn't expect her to."

That was the beauty of Jeff Beck.. he put his fingers and music out in front of himself. Such a humble man.
Lol. She had no idea who she was talking to...I guess rock just wasn't her cuppa tea!! Brian telling QE2 that Jimmy was in a band called Led Zeppelin which meant zero to the Queen 🤣🤣🤣 I just love it. And watching these 4 guys, who are hero worshipped worldwide, looking like real school boys throughout. 🤣🤣
No idea, nonsense. Royals like her were briefed extensively before every formal meeting. It's her way of showing disapproval.

Yeah agreed- she knew them all. 😉

Wonder whose idea it was to line them up according to height?
Also surprised that the name of Brian May's band didn't seem to come up for discussion - unless that is what he was apologizing about...
I see Queen -Elizabeth- E_Lizard_breath likes guitarists......likes to eat them.🎸🐍😋😂
I,m sure Jeff will be teaching her a few chords and the use of the whammy bar right now.

I don't understand why everybody always assumes that when their favorite celebrity dies they automatically go to heaven?
it says right in the Bible that very few even make it because most are fooled by Satan the prince and the power in the air in this world and father lies, like it says in the Bible. Unless they knew Jesus and repented to him and I'm not talking about waiting until the last minute on their death bed either because Jesus is reason why were here but if they went through whole life not honoring the one who died for their sins because he loves us then good luck that's all I gotta say and it don't matter who you are, especially Queen E_Lizard_breath that shapeshifting fallen angel.😂🙏

No matter how famous these guys became, they grew up with Queen Elizabeth as their monarch and no doubt they were in a bit of awe here.
Jeff came across when I met him as a shy introvert person but did not tolerate fools but had your typical British sense of humor
We talked about our love of hotrods I showed him some photos of our cars my brother and I owned.....I shed a tear when I heard the tragic news of his passing..My favorite song is Serene where Jeff plays his wonderful high notes up against Olivia Safe a Soprano The Angles were singing that day..... just a beautiful song to remember him by the end game guitar player God Bless......🙏🎶
Rock icons and the Queen had no idea who they were wow shocking. Loved when the Queen asked how long they'd been playing and Eric Clapton replied "40 years".
50 years.
Yes , We heard it
Loved Eric's " A bit long in the tooth " .. A Great British 19th century response including Her Magesty.. you can't make that up
Jimmy page looked like a young boy thrilled to meet someone he greatly admired.
These four unassuming men are basically the history of rock music right there!
What a lineup of greatness on the guitar.
Her favorite song was "Ogre Battle", followed closely by "Wonderful Tonight" along with "Freeway Jam" and "Whole Lotta Love" on her playlist. She was just toying with them.

They don't look in awe to me. Its totally embarrassing that the head of state wouldn't know who these British icons are. Totally embarrassing that we even have a monarchy, but even more embarrassing when they have no idea who Jeff Beck or Jimmy Page are.
Who says they're in awe? Why would anyone be in awe of the queen?
When the Queen met the Kings of rock. 👍
...and one of them was in a band called Queen. :)
What an amazing clip! Thank you for posting! RIP Jeff...you have left us a wonderful collection of music!
three legendary guitarists who shared in the same band Yardbirds...
The Queen certainly had a way of deflating any egos that were in the room, not that any of them were big-headed. They're all such nice blokes.
It was strange seeing four guitar greats, guys who have sold millions of records, look and act like little kids receiving an award from the principal.
I don't think she deflated any ego's since they grew up respecting the Queen already all their lives and they knew to be humble when meeting the Queen and they automatically bowed to the Queen. They may play rock n roll, heavy metal, partied hard in their youth but they're still gentlemen when it calls for it. Like we say in California, those are some awesome guys! 😉❤️
It's actually a bit sad that after all these years she still had no sense of who they were, even historically.
i would think knowing who the standout British actors, musicians, scientists, inventors, thinkers, playwrights, etc. would be part of that job; no matter of one's personal taste in anything. These are people who have contributed enormously to British culture for decades, regardless. Or at least someone could have briefed her 5 minutes before meeting, as any politician would do. To not have even a recognizable sense of the names "Led Zeppelin" or "Yardbirds" is, well, just a reflection of being uninformed and/or uninterested.
IMHO, with all respect to The Queen, it wasn't really a good look.
@@robshrock-shirakbari1862 in all fairness the Queen probably didn't know these guy's socially? But I'm sure her Majesty would recognize McCartney, Jagger, and Elton who for some cockamamie reason were knighted? Other than the tax revenue they brought in that is.
YOU’RE BLOODY RIGHT
“Hi, we are the most legendary guitarists your country ever produced!”
Queen: “Ok….bye now.”
What I like is how they say: "We're all from the same area." Like classmates. It makes everything so "cozy".
Really beautiful to see this lovely elderly woman having a rare chance to meet these honorable 'Royal Kings' in person, all at once.
Surrey. What a golden county at that time to have produced these four legends
She'll finally know, when they meet in heaven. They got plenty of time. Rest In Peace Queen Elizabeth II! Rest In Peace Mr. Jeff Beck!

But eric Clapton? So how many decades was the queen out of date with her music? 🤣
@@jessicaregina1956 Old people are always very very behind on music, it doesn’t surprise me 😂
This was a failure of the person assigned to give the Queen information on who she was meeting. The Queen has to be briefed in preparation for events, and provided background knowledge.

And you won't either. I think the last time they played together was 82 (?) At the arms concerts
Three of the Yardbirds, Clapton, Page and Beck and majesty May. It doesn’t get better than that .
The GOAT has left us
Page said in his guitar book he had recordings of Clapton & himself from the 60’s
Well, on the contrary, you actually _have_ seen quite a few photos with Clapton and Page together. See, each frame of a video is a single photo, and this video you just watched consists of many (perhaps many thousands of) frames. Hope this helps!🤓
This was great. Thanks for sharing.
It's a fun video to watch with a smile on your face while watching it, then reality sets in, and it hits you like a punch in the gut when you realize Jeff Beck is no longer with us and your smile disappears.
Well put...
Spot on.
It’s great. Some of the greatest musicians of all time all stood together like school kids waiting to meet the headmaster. So much respect there for Queenie.
OMG…asking Jimmy Page “are you a guitarist as well?”
It's a good scene that we can see humility of Jimmy and Sir Brian.
Jimmy could have said, ' I tried to be one... '
@@pihermoso11 He should have said: " I am still a learner " )))
Jimmy has said he is really shy, we can see here how he is really anxious right before the queen comes out. It's almost as if he was preparing himself mentally. And when he greets her we just have to look at his hands and also that "mhm". He has played to thousands people yet he is still shy, such a true spirit.
Four guitar monsters Bryian May, Jimmy Page, Erick Clapton & Jeff Beck and the Queen Elizabeth II, one iconic image.

She absolutely should have been briefed/given bios on them! They are subjects for her to know and have pride about!
Many British people revel
In the complete ignorance their head of state has about them, their daily lives and the popular culture they enjoy. They’d be horrified if they thought the Queen watched the same soap operas they did. It’s a strange sort of Pavlovian response they have to their “betters”.
...uncommon courtesy I would have thought
Oh she most definitely would have recieved her brief that she was meeting these musicians, but when they listed the names, it probably never occured to them that she wouldn't recognise them 😊

Mr. Brian May stands out as a giant compared to the rest so far as height is concerned. My respects to Mr. Jeff Beck and his family.
I was thinking the same thing, but it's because he is the one closest to the camera
When camera turns and jeff beck is the one closest, things change
Then camera turns again and brian may becomes huge
I even checked his height after seen this lol:
Brian may 1.87m
Jimmy page 1.80m
Eric clapton 1.77m
Jeff beck 1.78m
Well Brian May is clearly the tallest here, but not exactly a giant compared to the others. Camera makes it look like Jeff beck was super short
Sir Brian May*
The Queen really missed out. That day she met true royalty.
How lucky was she to meet these Legends
Wow, such a priviledge to meet living legend...It must have been an unforgettable day for the Queen
Actually the queen has many more on her plate then to sit down and remember her days 🤣
It seems to me that there is a problem of management here around the Queen...She should have been taught who those people were before to be introduced to them. We can easily understand that their music had not been her cup of tee taking into account her age but at least .... tell her Majesty how important those musicians were (and still are ) and how much England should be grateful to them...
Well said sir! Not only have they earned millions for this country but they have enhanced Britain's global reputation on a massive scale, far more than any boring politicians or clapped-out royalty members. I'm sure it had to be an honor for all 4 of them, however I wouldn't expect The Queen to really know who they were. Their genre of music was a bit after the era of music she enjoys. I had seen this video before, and thought it was amusing, because you could tell she had no idea who they were. 😁 RIP to both Queen Elizabeth, and Jeff Beck 🙏
Exactly what I thought. They should have expressed the huge amount of wealth they generated for the UK. They would have really caught his attention.
This is probably more of a testament to how these very famous musicians who spent their lives playing in front of thousands of fans, sold millions of records and changed the course of popular music still had a great shared reverence for the Queen as an institution of their own identity.
Dayum bro this stage is full of legendary musician band
the way you guys felt around the Queen, is the way your Fans feel when they meet anyone of You.😂
From what I've seen of those beloved guitarists, I suspect that the way any one of them would treat one of his fans in person would be far nobler and more humane than the snobby, condescending way in which their queen can be seen treating them in this video. And those guitarists have given their fans quite a lot of value; whereas, what has the queen ever given those guitarists (or anyone else) beyond something as valueless as a trifling "audience" with her, in which she clearly could not give a rat's ass about any of them?
BTW, nice Beatles medley on your channel!
