Apologies if this was already asked. The quality of the streaming videos, what is it? For instance, if you want to play 4k movies from Apple TV, would the resolution be 4k? I just want a VR headset to watch movies on “huge screen”. Thank you. I’ve tried the Amazon Prime Video, CZcams VR and BigScreen; the best quality seems to be, at most, HD.
Hey there, audio only question here; when virtual desk is downloaded are you able to mow plug the usbc from Mac to headset and stream the audio only into the headset, for example in horizon worlds? Thanks!
Have you tried installing Steam on you Macbook Air with M1 chip recently? How well did it work? and have you tried installing Steam PCVR on your macbook air recently?
Thanks for the video. Besides gaming, How does Virtual Desktop compare with something like Immersed VR for the use-cases you displayed in your video.
I would use immersed or big screen
@@VRLINK thanks!
No problem
I didn't care for Immersed or BigScreen. I suppose it's just a matter of taste. Use what you like best.
Great vid! I don’t intend on really playing high end games but I’d like to watch CZcams etc through virtual desktop on my Apple Silicon M1 14”. Are there any roadblocks for this? No need for oculus link right
Thanks 🙏🏾 also You can just watch CZcams on the oculus browser or the vr app on quest but if you wanted do it on virtual desktop you can
Amazing video. Few questions. What was the mac u used? Is M1 mac compatible with virtual desktop, oculus quest 2? By now i am convinced vr games are out of question with virtual desktop macbook oculus quest.
But what about regular games like shadow of the tomb raider? Is it possible to play games like those with oculus quest 2 virtual desktop with m1 macbook pro?
Great quest btw i use a m1 Mac book air. I believe you could probably play tomb raider but you would probably need to use something like Xbox game pass to stream to your MacBook and play from there or i have a video up where i explain how to play Xbox games natively on the quest 2
@@VRLINK I just tried out the app on an m2 pro Mac mini and quest 3. for some reason I have a large amount of latency and I didn't even boot up a game yet :( also lose frames too. I tried adjusting some settings, but latency was the same the whole time. any advice? my wifi isn't a joke either
Hell yeah, it's worth it! I love it on mine. It works great, even on my old 2012 Mac. It just depends on what you want to do with it. I don't game on the old Mac. But I do use it so I can do my work on a nice big monitor instead of my laptop screen.
hey, I’m gonna be trying it out on my 2022 model can’t wait. Do you have any tips and tricks?
@@gatesroyale Just get as much RAM and the best GPU you can get and enjoy! I just bought an ASUS TUF A17 laptop because I wanted to start gaming for real with Visual Desktop. I’m not into shooters, but so far I played RAM hogs like Sims3 and Sims4, Civilization V and VI, No Man’s Sky, Trópico and Cities Skylines with no lag. And that last one is real important to me because I truly HATE Cities Skylines for Oculus. It’s just pure crap. Being able to play the PC version with a mouse and wireless keyboard, in all its graphic splendor, with no lag, on a movie theater-sized screen is just KILLER.
Of course, a new laptop with more RAM and a kickass GPU means I basically don’t see family or friends anymore. Or sleep. I pretty much live and work in my Virtual Desktop apartment now.
Hi I don't game - I just want to use VR headset as a big screen for movies and sport, that I login and watch via Safari browser on my Mac Mini M1 . Basically any video I can watch on Safari browser, I want to watch on my Quest. Would a Quest 2 + this Virtual Desktop app work well for this use ?
@@ccgmail8025 It definitely won't disappoint. You have your choice of a couple of movie theater screens, a couple of home theater screens, and a gigantic full-screen view (no seats, just screen). Or you can sit in your virtual living room and watch it on your virtual flatscreen TV. You can even change seats to get the view that works best for you. I spend hours watching movies in Virtual Desktop.
I just got VD because of a sale, but im having some issues. wanted to try desktop gaming(M2 pro Mac mini) on a big screen with it, but before I can do that, even with normal use, I get a huge input delay and a lower framerate on my quest 3. My wifi is pretty good too so I don't know what's up. not finding much online so far. Any advice for the settings? whatever I look up for VD usually involves PCVR stuff
The IGPUs on Intel Macs were shit but the M1/M2 using the same IGPUs they make in house for iPhone/iPads but alittle bit more beefed up, the M1/M2 IGPUs are better than the intel ones for sure.
I definitely agree
Thanks, I hope for the same that you hope for Virtual Desktop on Mac.
Thanks
I love the part where he shows us how to setup the Virtual Desktop application on Mac
Just download it
@@dragonblazethevlogger4891same how is it?
@@gatesroyale you can’t play any games so idk what it is for
does the virtual desktop lag? my pc is not supported and the air link is laggy whenever i play roblox help.
No not for me
Is there any free alternative to this???
Offering a honest critique here. I came here to see a video about using Mac because I don’t HAVE a PC. So comparing everything to setting up a PC isn’t helpful for me personally. What settings should one have exactly, without comparing it to PC?
I feel the same way. I didn’t have a PC and didn’t want one. Just start with the potato settings and nudge things up from there until you find the sweet spot for your Mac. Until recently, I was using VD on a 2012 MacBook Pro. I played Sims 4 on it quite enjoyably. Civilization 5 too. Sims 3 was a no go, but playing all my BigFish games and other stuff that’s not so RAM intensive on a movie theater-sized screen was really awesome.
I was also able to run work stuff on it really well (Office, FrameMaker, Adobe, etc.), so instead of working on my little laptop screen, with my wireless keyboard I was able to pretend I had a giant monitor in my Virtual Desktop office. I got a ton of mileage out of that office with my lower-end Mac. Until you can upgrade to an M2/M3 Mac, you’ll have to forego hardcore gaming. But you can still use the program very effectively. If it runs well on your Mac, it should stream equally well to VD, as long as you have a fast internet connection.
@@gmlaster Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it! I actually bought a Mac with the new chip and went home to try to do video editing. It choked hard. I brought it back a week later and the Mac employee said, "Do you do design work?" I said yes, and he said the majority of returns were from designers who found the new chips were not an improvement, but a downgrade. Maybe the next gen chips are better, but this was the first year they moved over and it was awful!
@@ShayMoore I expected that to happen. I put off buying one for exactly that reason. I'm waiting to see how the M3 does. I'm a designer too. I do lots of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, and I'm moving into 3D Animation and visual effects. So I'm excited to see what the next gen chips are gonna do as well.
I bought a PC to hold me over because my 2012 Mac is just so old that it can't handle 2023 Adobe stuff without lagging. And the 3D stuff is painfully SLOW. I can't animate at all without crashing. All the really good apps won't run without at least Catalina. And I can't upgrade my Mac OS any higher. So I'm having to just be patient and wait for the Mac chipset that can handle the load I need to put on it.
@@gmlaster I feel your pain. I ended up buying a 2020 iMac--the last of the Intel chipset machines, and the last they made with the larger 27" screens. I wasn't happy dropping to a 24" screen either, so returning the new machine and getting a refurb 2020 hit the spot for me for now. Good luck!
Actually its only used for roblox but use it with link
I download the app enter my username, etc, run the VR connect to my Mac, but then nothing happens. It shows connected but the screen does not pop up. Do you know what am I doing wrong? I checked firewall and it's allowed for this VR desktop app, turned off the vpn, and still nothing
Do you have it on quest
@@VRLINK quest meta 2. downloaded and installed. i launch it and go through setting to connect it and it shows connected, but nothing happens after that
What happens when u connect it in the headset
You don’t enter your username, it will tell you what username to enter
