See these performers while you can. Wanda was 74 here - that's how old Stevie Nicks is right now, and she's on tour. You never know when they're gonna stop.

This was the only historic Late Show event in the many years Letterman was on. Wanda Jackson is a true performer and Jack White is a powerhouse talent and a stand up gentleman.
Yeah, Jack is a gift to the world of rock and roots music. He’s an archivist, producer, arranger and here, a supporter of older performers. He’s kind of an old soul I think.
What I really like about Jack White; is that he always focuses on making sure that the composition of a piece works well for what it’s supposed to for it’s creative execution of direction and not care about being in the spot-light; rather, being an excellent backing support member. The guy is a true artist and musician.
I saw her a few years ago and Lemmy from Motorhead had requested a song. she said, "This next song is for Lenny, from Motor..what ?". He just laughed. I'm glad people like Lemmy , Jack White and David Letterman still remember who the real rock royalty is. Wanda is the queen.
Wanda rules! she's been rockin' since the mid-50's, went on tour and dated Elvis, and shouldve been bigger in this country than she was! and she's a total sweetheart in person. keep it up Wanda!!!
Is there anything that Jack White touches that doesn't "rock" I'd never heard of Wanda Jackson before this now I can't get enough. The work he did with Tim Eriksen on the Cold Mountain introduced me to two whole genres of music and guys like Riley Bagus... the guy is a true musical genius.
I never used to be a fan of Jack white, however the stuff he's being doing over the last couple of years/Blue/cayan/ rockabilly is great..long live Jack White !
I saw Wanda Last year, and she was awesome!! I was prepared to see her and think "isnt she a cute little old lady" and "hey I got to see a legend" She was amazing. This performance pales in comparison to what I saw her do on stage. She did her older songs, that i listened to with my grandparents while i was growing up, and new stuff that was fantastic. Thank you Jack White for bring her back for the younger generation.
I was DELIGHTED when I found out that Wanda had recorded fresh, new 'Devil's Music' at 70! She was still really hot, too. That's what happens when you lead a decent, amazing life and don't turn your body into a Chem Lab!
Wanda attended my church quite often when I was a teen in the 70s. I didn't know her history. So sad I did not get to know her. She was very friendly. Jack White is a class act that understands, values, and honors our music history! This was a fantastic CZcams find!
Of _course_ Jack is a showman...he's fucking unbelievable at it. But he also, knows how to assert himself within music itself. He knows when to push and when to pull. And this performance exemplifies that skill Jack has obviously honed...because it's his life's passion. If only any of us could be that lucky. And yeah...this whole video is killer all around...not just for Jack, but for the entire band, and equally to Wanda alone. If you just released this song, without the video, a _lot_ of people would think it was some truly cool new artist. Her voice is cutting and haunting and sarcastic and sincere all at once. I love it.
My favorites are the PBS specials...particularly the doo wop shows. People in their 70s, 80s, and early 90s, still singing right on the note, doing the steps...dressed in real stage clothes. Glad that Jack is celebrating this legend.
not only lyrics and music, but passion and a capacity to perform in the moment without being concerned with anything other than being awesome and kicking ass. never heard of wanda jackson before, but she's a badass in my book now that i've seen this.
Maybe not Wanda's best performance, but I have so much respect for this Woman! I saw her live a number of years ago in Toronto. It was such an honour meeting this lady. She was doing Rockabilly the same time as Elvis. One of the first ladies of ROCK!! Check out her version of Fuji Yama Mama. This lady left her mark and I still think she kicks butt!
They are all having a blast. She is amazing, don't let her age fool ya! She might not be able to shake her ass like some young thing (anymore, she used to be one hot number) but she's a singer & she can out sing the majority of the singers nowadays!
It's not in my nature to put any song on repeat, no matter how much I love it. I played this 3 full times, partly in honor of Jack and partly because I just couldn't help myself. I don't believe I've seen Dave so excited about the musicians on his show, lol. And, enough of this crap, Jack and Wanda are both legends in their own right, and they were clearly honored to be performing with each other. Let's just dig the music, because that's what it's all about, guys.
The sheer number of negative comments are a sad indicator of how far we've fallen in our society and musically. This performance should be appreciated by everyone. Awesome.
For all the negative comments about Wanda Jackson...how many of you can say you are still performing at 74?? HMMMMM??? (silence, followed by the chirping of crickets)...thought so....you have no reason to slam a country legend...
Steven Norman I knew Wanda when she was in my studio back in the 60's. She was as classy then as she still is today. She still gives me shivers as much as listening to this cut as if she were still running her fingers through my hair years ago. Same shocking feeling. She still has it.
Steven Norman I am most pleased with your response. Some of us old codgers have to respect those who created our roots from the ground up. Few these days to so. I am 58 going on 60...God willing. I go way back...LOL. I had the luck of helping some wonderful talents upon their destiny. She was one so gifted, not my me, but by God above. These things are NOT created in the studio, just enhanced. The gift comes from above, and few are so chosen. She was.
Most comments on here are just ignorant. She screamed most of her hits in style of rockabilly even back she was 20 so don't act surprised that she's not sounding like Celine Dion here. If you listen close she sounds the exact same, but with less power because of her age... that's all.
Nice assessment there. Besides, who TF wants to hear yet another female singer who over-emotes, wails and tries to pack every vocal nuance into one song? Egad, not me.
Also, feel glad and fortunate that you get to see someone like her perform on a grand stage while you can. The golden age singers are almost completely dead. Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee can all die any day now.
Thanks Jack for generating some attention and recognition to Ms Jackson.
being a throw away society doesn't mean throwing away our ICONS like Wanda
I love how she sings a 1/4 beat behind the music. Makes the song.
See these performers while you can. Wanda was 74 here - that's how old Stevie Nicks is right now, and she's on tour. You never know when they're gonna stop.
She and Jack are fabulous!
So cool.
Respect for Jack White because he makes a habit of including and respecting elders in his profession.
i like his music but he is a libtard

This was the only historic Late Show event in the many years Letterman was on. Wanda Jackson is a true performer and Jack White is a powerhouse talent and a stand up gentleman.
I love how respectfully Jack steps back and gives all the spotlight to Wanda when David comes over. Such a gentleman.
Yeah, Jack is a gift to the world of rock and roots music. He’s an archivist, producer, arranger and here, a supporter of older performers.
He’s kind of an old soul I think.
Hu
Wicked Wanda. Jack very cool...
Wanda was a Star in Her day and Jack knows That
he treats musicians like royalty
Wanda Jackson and Jack White ARE what true rock'n'roll is about

Really Go Girl 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
I empathize strongly. I'm pushing 80 and I'm still gardening in my Speedos from 1964. Let it all hang out !
Put some pants on.
Jack White blew the lid off this joint.
By far the best performance on the David letterman show
Bless Jack White for returning everything where it came from while forging new paths. Quite simply he's genius.
What I really like about Jack White; is that he always focuses on making sure that the composition of a piece works well for what it’s supposed to for it’s creative execution of direction and not care about being in the spot-light; rather, being an excellent backing support member. Say what you will... I thought this was great. The best rock and roll is raw and from the heart. Wanda Jackson is badass.
I was in the audience that night. Fantastic performance live!

Wanda! huh! The Queen....
Two living legends, Wanda Jackson and Jack White! This is awesome!
The QUEEN of Rock "n" Roll!!! No-One can touch her!!!
Saw her many times in little bars n clubs through out the years, have few very early 45,s she happily signed, wonderful lady to talk with....
Wanda rules! she's been rockin' since the mid-50's, went on tour and dated Elvis, and shouldve been bigger in this country than she was! and she's a total sweetheart in person. keep it up Wanda!!!
What fun. She came forward with boldness when she was a teen and here she still is. How cool.
I liked it, Wanda Jackson is a legend who deserves respect, Jack White has done everything he could to give her that respect.
a forgotten legend.

Another Icon in the vast rock, country, blues, folk music.
She is the embodiment of rock n roll
A knowledgeable Mr. Jack White shows he is both kind and great.
Wow that guitar! Top version of a great song. Blew me aWAY
Listen to Joe Moretti on the original UK No1 by Johnny Kidd in 1960.
I was DELIGHTED when I found out that Wanda had recorded fresh, new 'Devil's Music' at 70! She was still really hot, too. That's what happens when you lead a decent, amazing life and don't turn your body into a Chem Lab!
Listening in 2021. She is such a Treasure . Rock on Wanda. Wish I could have seen her in the 80s in California
This is one incredible performance. I can't ever get enough!
She is one of the true greats, at any age. Thank you, Jack White for the support you show for the history of country and rock-a-biliy.
So good. Real rock and roll.
Wanda blew me away with that one. I had no idea she was still performing. And that band was unbelievable.

What a legend. Too bad so many people don't know about her. I'm doing my best to spread the word.
Go Wanda, The Queen! Had the pleasure to meet her last weekend, what a woman! X

johnny kidd would be so happy to know that people still play and enjoy his music.
This is without a doubt my most memorable performance on the David Letterman show, and i watched since the early 80’s.
Jack white is an incredible guitar player.
Wanda Jackson is a living legend.
My gawd! This woman is still rock and roll incarnate.
This song is amazing and Jack White is a genius!
Geez! That old gal is incredible! A true legend.
What an honour for wanda to get to play alongside a legend like jack
brilliant woman, a treasure... so sad to see the negative comments... this gal is takin' us to school, here!
Really loved this. I enjoyed Letterman’s “holy crap” at the end.
Wanda is the best of the best in rock...she can perform the highest on covering many artists songs. She is an American music treasure!
Yes Wanda!!!!
Wauw those musicians are amazing! I just love Jack White. And what a great voice and volume does Wanda still have at that age!
At this point of her carrer, she is with absolutely no doubt far beyond good or evil. Well done Wanda !
This is my favorite live performance ever
the band is amazing ... wanda's doing the best she can ...let 'em all have fun

i love how even though jack's 'in the background' of this song there's no mistaking his presence. his guitar skills are otherworldly.
She still has it and always did. Yep the queen of rockabilly. Long live the queen.
Love her soulful voice with Jack White's surf-sounding guitar.
I just can't stop listening!

agreed
I found it hard to find a negative comment. You don't know what you're talking about.
AMAZING. This totally gave me chills.
That (Jack White) guitar is totally amazing!!! :)
Maravilhosa adoro voz única.
what a band! my gosh!!!
Best guitar riff and playing on this song ever...really tight band....and Wanda is a legend. I'd love to hear Jack singing the song.
The Who did it better at Woodstock
Joe Moretti on the original written by Johnny Kidd and a UK no1 in 1960.
Jack White. What a talent. I'd like to hear him do his own version of this Pirates tune.

cool to see all of Jack Whites band members from his solo album performing like Dominic Davis, Olivia Jean, and Ruby Armafu
Bloody brilliant.
I absolutely love this clip. The bands energy was outstanding and Wanda belted it out!
Love it!!!!!!! I love all her music!!!! I surely understand the tribute!

Yes, I suspect Wanda will be the last one standing.
what an honour for jack to play along side a great legend like wanda
Miss Wanda is bringing it still! I love this.
Hey -- is that the Legendary Rich Gilbert on pedal steel? Why, yes, it is! Excellent!
Anyone putting this down is nuts. Rock on, Grandma!!!!!
God bless Jack White for bringing back Wonderful Wanda.
Amazing performance!
This duet is a perfect match lol!
