Arsenal go into 2023 top of the Premier League, the big question is, are they going to stay there? As Gabriel Jesus, who has proven to be one of their best players over the course of a season, has returned from the World Cup injured. Depth issues in the central midfield area too, mean that Arsenal will be looking to add a few players during the January Transfer Window.
Jon Mackenzie suggests some sensible transfers that could benefit Arsenal.

I think a signing which makes sense for both player and Arsenal is Haaland. A great goal scorer to cover for Jesusâ injury, and it gives the player the rare opportunity to win the league this season as well as the coveted Europa league trophy which he is unlikely to win later in his career
You must be smoking the good stuff
@@winter_silhouette You must be fun at parties

@@winter_silhouette Do you think Haaland is not good enough? lol
Memphis and Firmino would both fit tactically but theyâre hardly sensible transfers. Age profile is wrong and youâre committing big wages to players who would expect to start and probably wouldnât be happy as back ups. Arsenal pay Nketiah 100k a week because heâs there striker depth, no need to panic on a comparatively old player.
Also Memphis has flopped i the Prem before. Its just not the league he should be in.
Can Firmino play on the wing? The reason I ask is Jesus and Martinelli swap positions throughout the game.
While Firmino's hold up is/was elite, not sure he would get caught in the same spots as Martinelli when he looks to slot in the #9 position
Yeah their ages just don't seem right. But Firmino still intrigues me a little. And Bennacer's data is amazing, too
Firming would be a great shout if he would take a 30 month contract with an extra 12 option.
We donât already own him so no threat of the Ozil-Auba debacles.
I like it. Clearly out of favour at Liverpool, but brings the experience Milner and others brought to the Reds during their tilts
@@gweilojohn this is laughable. Firmino will force Arsenal to be static because he lost his dynamism and there will be no more rotations. His pressing numbers have also declined in the past 12 months. Offering link up play alone is not enough for this Arteta system otherwise he would've kept Laca coz that's all Laca offered. Granted Bobby is a better ball striker and can still get into positions in the box but the Gergen press has finished him just like how Fabinho, Hendo Van Djik etc are way passed their best.
What about Ibrahim Sangare?

Very rarely have I seen Tifo so off the mark but Firminho and Depay is a wild suggestion for Arsenal. Arteta's made it very clear that his faith is in Eddie. He's not going to buy someone to push Eddie out of the way especially one that ends up giving him selection nightmares once Jesus is back. More likely what's he's trying to do is buy someone like Mudryk to play wide and if Eddie needs a rest send Martinelli or ESR central. This also means that Saka and Eddie aren't having to play every minute of every game.
It wouldn't exactly be an interesting video if they just said "They should sign Mudryk" who everyone knows they're looking to sign anyway.
maybe the loan move for Felix would be a more sensible option in that case... I'm not too sure how keen Arteta is on playing Martinelli (even more so ESR) centrally. So if Nketiah picks up a knock there could be a problem, so it's wise to be prepared for that. Also who is Saka's understudy aside from Nelson who is also injured currently. Marquinhos most likely. Can ESR play on the right?
Although I understand your point this video is about who would be the most sensible transfers. Donât think you can deny theyâd be sensible. As opposed to most realistic - thatâs a different video.
@@cavy369 Fabio Vieira is currently coming on for right wing subs
I see the same way, special because Arsenal are focusing on building a young team that can develop together and be at its peak for years.
So what Jon is saying is that⊠Ibrahim SangarĂ© would also be a nice fit into Arsenalâs midfield
Would love to see Bennacer coming back. Such an underrated player.

The old Tifo football video format with graphics/animations was much better. Don't get me wrong these newer ones are great but the old info graphic videos were a thing of beauty, please bring them back because these new videos make it feel the same as many other channels, there's nothing unique about these ones.
Agreed. Graphics definitely improved these vids.
Ismael Bennacer used to be at arsenal as well, he was subbed on against sheffield wednesday in a 3-0 defeat in the league cup a few years ago
Not exactly the largest priority, but that would really help squad registration rules
They mentioned that he played for us before in the video bro lol
Someone didn't watch the whole video
Love Dog McKenzie, how are were the forward suggestions sensible? Firmino and Depay really don't fit the profile of Arsenal's spending abilities, wage structure, or transfer strategy. Great analysis for CM but I expect more from The Goblin's Champion.
Think depay makes some sense as a short term option but firminio is a bit weird I agree
Hate to be a contrarian, but I couldn't see either Depay or Firmino as a sensible transfer for Arsenal as they don't fit the recruitment profile that Edu and Arteta are going for. Both are a bit too old for the squad, especially Firmino. Additionally, removing players with huge wages and balancing the payroll has been a considerable focus of squad building. Throwing in more established players would definitely upset that balance and endanger the ability to extend Saliba and Saka, which is a known priority of the club.
While it does make sense tactically, I don't see the business sense here. Sure the fees would be smaller, but the wage bill is a pretty important factor here. It's the same as the Varane vs Benjamin White conversation from the summer of '21--the English Lizard Boat as Joe put it. The fees are higher for White Mudryk, but their wages and age fit better with the business strategy of the football club.
The midfield picks fit the transfer profile better; mostly younger, with higher fees but lower wages, and potential resell value. I would maybe disagree that there isn't much reinforcement for Xhaka's role, I think the idea may be to have Lokonga, Smith-Rowe, and Vieria operate in that left half space and the inverted left back. For me, the 6 is a bit more urgent to reinforce, but I think both picks offer a little bit of both defensive and offensive skill for the squad.
Does Jon mostly focus on the tactical side of this, or are there business considerations for these picks? Sorry to be nitpicky, but Tifo is just about the best place on the internet for nerdy, hair-splitting discussions about transfers. Cheers, and thanks for all the work from the team!
Crazy how no one is talking about support for Saka, the boy will need a rest. Also a Nkrtiah is shining ATM and deserves credit (not sure when this was filmed).
Particularly as kicking Saka seems to be standard procedure
Nelson is not nearly as good but he offers good cover for him
Great video Jon but more importantly, where can I get one of those jumpers?!
I like the profile analysis. But the ages of some of these players just won't cut it for Arteta. It's way out of the strategy: Young and develop or coming into their peak. Don't see us going into late 20s. We also are very careful about wages too which probably eliminates the likes of depay.
I might be completely wrong but I don't think Memphis would want that high of a wage. He cares about his career and his playing time first.
@@danil8663 Memphis is not good enough for Arsenal, he can go to Chelseađ
Would Bennacer also fit into Arsenal's home grown quota for registration? That would also add to the potential pros of the deal.
No he wouldnât
3 Players: Kolo-Muani, Bellingham, D.Sow.
Kolo-Muani: he can play ST, RW and LW. His speed and dribbling for a big guy is fantastic. His frame is a alternative to G.Jesus and Nketiah and he can bring the others into play and works hard defensively. He's a good as a substitute and has a great mentality as you could see against Bayern or Argentina (changed the game when he came in both times, is not afraid of big teams). And taking and smashing that penalty home in a WC final after missing that chance just minutes earlier shows the mentality you need to go to the top. Cheap alternative: Trossard.
Bellingham: Has everything, plays on the left-side of a midfield 3 for Dortmund, is used to the left half space already. Is a leader already, can defend like Xhaka, passing is almost as good as Xhaka's, he is faster and a better dribbler and in the box more dangerous. Could dominate over a decade alongside, Saka, Martinelli, Saliba.
Cheap Alternative: T.Lemar
D.Sow: very good passer, reads the game well, never stops running, defensively good. Good height, quick, lots of experience in BL, EL and CL, MOTM vs Spurs in the CL, great vs West Ham last season. Still relatively cheap. Alternative: Danilo
Bellingham isnât sensible heâs 150 million brother
@@dwaynekeenum1916 it depends how you see sensible, for me Bellingham is very professional, mature and is worth absolutely the money, especially over a longer period. If you want to make this team better, a Tielemans who can't even lead Leicester out of the bottom 10 won't cut it. In my opinion there's exactly 2 young CM players available that will drastically improve that team, Bellingham or E.Fernandez. Others like Milinkovic-Savic, MacAllister, J.Ramsey, Koné, Lemar are all very good, but not really far from Xhaka.
As a Frankfurt fan I would personally prefer for Randal and Sow to stay at least until the end of the season, though I do love that people are noticing, should mean the money all keeps working
I would like to see a Sensible Transfers episode for Ajax, if that's possible.
We're in a crucial transfer period right now to try and seize back 1st in the league, but with well over 100M spent in the summer, we're looking weaker than last year.
GK and RB are obvious positions to improve, but I'd really like to see an analysis from Tifo on this - if possible of course
Why would anyone want to see that?
@@clegsmegson2627 because itâs interesting looking at other clubs in other leagues instead of the same teams constantly
Sign Carvajal and Neuer
It would definitely be interesting but itâs very hard to identify players that Ajax tend to buy. They are elite at scouting young players that the average person will be completely unaware of. That being said, Ajax should have a lot of money to spend relative to their normal budget. So maybe there are some well known players who are at a point in their career that Ajax is an attractive prospect and they can compete for like Bergwijn, Haller and Tadic
@@ngxrdner8868 hereâs an interesting take do you think they would have gotten Ronaldo if the buy out clause and cost wasnât that high ?
I honestly donât think arsenal do need a new striker, especially not an ageing striker that goes against their entire transfer philosophy. Nketiah might not provide the link up but what weâve seen so far is that Arteta has essentially replaced Jesusâs deep touches with allowing Odegaard to drift into those spaces and have more responsibility for creation. Also (and I know Jesus contributes more than goals to this team) Nketiah is scoring the goals that will be key to how arsenal do. With Jesus back in not too long I donât understand why theyâd do that instead of signing a DM
Surprised Ibrahim Sangaré wasn't mentioned
Sensible transfers and suggests Memphis Depay? Yeah, I don't think about that one chief
You of all people should know that frimino has an anti-arsenal clause in his contract with Liverpool
Is this fr
*You of all goblins
is this real?
@@bob_bobsen yeah it's true.
But seriously that clause would make no sense now. What was it 98m Pounds? For Firmino of all players who isn't even worth 30m+ in today's marketđ Lol I'd consider Arsenal lucky with this one. Good luck to anyone willing to pay that gargantuan and obviously ridiculous sum of money.
That Japan FA sweater is amazing, đ
When Tierney is fit, you can play Zin at CM for Xhaka. He plays there for Ukraine. Your Firmino pick isn't taking into account that he is injured very often.
I think Dejan Kulusevski, Kane, and Son would fit perfect for Arsenals system.
Basing on profile only Kulu fits.
Far from sensible transfers if we're honest. Luckily Mikel is targeting wide forwards like Mudryk we desperatley need for depth and not Memphis Depay like Jon is suggesting. Regardless, love the channel!
Maybe don't hyperfocus on the one player that is Memphis (who tbf to Jon would work if he had any defensive ability) and make a seemingly sweeping comment on the entire video.
@@maestrod2420 lets be honesty, the quality of these suggestions have gone down massively
@@colouredIncognito It is January, and every player goes for at least ÂŁ50m because of Man Utd's incompetence so there you go đ€·ââïž
@@maestrod2420 UTD only have 1 player in history that is bought for over ÂŁ50m in January (Bruno - a resounding success), and only 1 player in the top 10.
Football transfers as a whole have been ruined since the Neymar to PSG one. UTD are still very incompetent at completing transfers but Chelsea and Barca are equally as bad for overpaying and getting it wrong.
@@TheJGTurton I completely agree. I just felt that United are the easiest example to turn to first when proving my point.
And I was right.
Arsenal have a greater need to add depth to their wide areas as opposed to bringing in another striker. Especially when you consider the excellent Nketiah and the on-loan youngster Balogun who will be fighting for that second striker role next season, I doubt the club will be willing to commit money to a short term replacement and block the pathway of two highly talented, homegrown strikers.
A winger who can play on both wings, and fill in for either saka or martinelli, must be the highest priority at this stage. Hence why Mudryk has been prioritised as their number one signing.
In regards to the CM position, Bennacer for 50m is a great pick. However, given partey's age and his likelihood to continue playing at a top level for another 2-3 years, I assume Arsenal will be looking at an even younger age bracket than Bennacer.
Nothing against the goblin king but I feel like it would be better if while showing graphs the camera just stays on the graphs and doesn't jump from graph to john
Doesn't Firmino have a clause in his contract that says he cannot join Arsenal, because of that "disrespectful" 40m+1 bid for Louis Suarez?
I remember learning this in the Tifo Video Titled: 'No Space Travel' & Other Football Contract Clauses
âSensible Transfersâ
Then mentions Memphis and Firmino đđ
can't believe we let bennacer go, i remember watching him play for the u21. he was actually promising and full of potential.
He wanted playing time
@@paulbrendanawicz4609 i know but we should've just loan him out, selling him was not a good move imo
Letting him go was fine. Not exercising the buy back when Milan signed him was the error
@@00dude3 yea i forgot that we got a buy back clause on him smh hopefully no hard feelings and he wanna come back.
I love Roberto Firmino. Not a Liverpool fan, just think he's phenomenal. I get that he's never offered 20+ goals a season, and that he is into his 30s now, but how Liverpool are gonna let him go on the cheap/free is insane. Rarely see such a well-rounded player, especially amongst forwards. So talented in possession too, and hard working. Don't get how he isn't walking into the Liverpool team, there aren't many teams on the planet he wouldn't improve.
I mean, on the firmino transfer I'm starting to think that nkethia is showing his worth. If he keeps on scoring, we might not have to buy another striker, and besides if all goes well, we could have this thing where we sub on nkethia st like the 75th min or something like that. We have to trust him, be has potential
maybe instead of a nketiah replacement, why don't arsenal get a young striker that can be a backup to both nketiah and jesus while also developing in the youth academy/reserves
@@yungtrashlord Lmao Arsenal fans kill me. How will the so called "young striker" develop if playing backup to a backup? That doesn't make sense. Developing in youth football is so many levels below men's 1st team football. Surely loans to guys like Saliba has taught Assna fans that young players need minutes in 1st team MEN'S FOOTBALL to develop or else they'll stagnate. That's the exact reason why Balogun is out on loan.
@@yungtrashlord Actually, that's a good idea, I like it. Do you have anyone in mind?

I can't lie - this is the content that I'd much rather see on the main tifo channel. It seems that tifo are moving their best content onto irl. I know that it makes sense for the tactics videos so that the guys can go into more detail with their boards versus an animation but I think an animation would have worked better here and tied everything together better?
I get it for this season because of the World Cup.
They usually do sensible transfers only during the summer transfer window and upload them to the main channel, as these are usually much harder to produce, with all the sketches and Joe's narration. I believe this series of sensible transfers are in Tifo IRL purely because it's just Jon (irl)
did not even know that this was not the main channel lol
Isn't joe sister who does the animations on maternity leave? Would explain it
@@00dude3 but aren't they still making videos on the main channel? I guess they must have multiple people and the workload is too high. Or prerecorded
Sounds like this was made before Nketiah started scoring again. I would be hesitant to sign any strikers permanently with Balogun lighting up Ligue 1 and Nketiah playing well. I think a short term loan would be the ideal solution for a striker.
Love Bennacer as a Milan fan, heâs be class for Arsenal and could well be a staple with the younger core

@@hunters423 my guy, Iâm not dumb, Iâm asking for an in depth explanation, you literally accomplished nothing with that response đ
Signing Mudryk and Bennacer, plus recalling Balogun from his loan would be ideal đ
a big no, ur strikers suggestions for arsenal are all miss, for memphis we already knew what happened with him in man u, for firmino there's no way arteta & edu going to make another willian kinda signing. age profile for both of them are also not fitting for arsenal. one of arsenal's most important coach is carlos cueta, and he is 27 y/o! martinelli and esr once said that carlos is so related to the players because they felt like he is just a big brother around. my suggestions would be amine gouiri, jonathan david or joao felix.

My sensible transfers for Arsenal would be:

Mydryk and Tielemans I would say at the very least this January given the Newcastle game.
Really good video, one thing tho- why would you wanna replace Xhaka with a more of a progressive dribbler than passer, Being positionally good is what Xhaka is best at and he is a v.good passer as well and not a dribbler at all. Kone would change the dynamic of that midfield and would take away from what Xhaka brings instead of being a replacement for him.
Sensible transfers episode for AC Milan, they really need it.

Another amazing sweater Jon
I think the plan is for them to bring in Mudryk and then either take Atletico up on the loan offer for Felix or just use Eddie and Martinelli as ST until Jesus is fit again. Not sure bringing in a Firmino type would be great as at 31 is he going to be happy being behind Jesus and also preventing Eddie from progressing as he has done? Would love to see Bennacer back though
Benjamin Sesko would be a more sensible transfer or Rennes's Kamaldeen Sulemana if they can't get Mudryk.
In midfield why not purchase Lyon's Maxence Caqueret or Sandro Tonali if they have the money.

Honestly if the price for Joao Felix is reasonable. Him as a short term solution might be good. Would rather see what Balogun can do next season
I'm surprised there was no mention of Balogun in this video. I know he is tearing it up in Ligue 1 and he has a recall clause on his loan contract. Why not recall him to be Nketiah's understudy and put Balogun on in the last 30 minutes of games and in the FA Cup and Europa League games?
Depay back in the pl. Interesting!
Jon, that jumper is a banger!
Absolutely no chance of Liverpool selling Firmino in Jan. They might be out of the title race, but they're still in the race for Top 4, and they need all possible attacking options at their disposal. Joao Felix is the best option, ticks all the boxes, and is the rare left-footed CF who can also back up Saka on RW, something no right footer can offer as Arteta is very particular about playing inverted wingers. Marquinhos is the only other option on the right and he's far from ready, while ESR and Nelson can both backup Martinelli.
A rival forward and a former Hale End product.. maybe a little more effort next time guys.. ? Thanks !!
