The Salt Lick BBQ in Texas

- čas přidán 10. 11. 2013
- Barbecue and Texas are synonymous with each other, and one such place is above the rest. The Salt Lick, is a mecha for barbeque lovers. The Salt Licks now infamous barbecue pit, sits right at the front doors, welcoming patrons with its sweet smells of delicious pork ribs, beef tenderloin, pork sausage and more, all lathered in the Salt Licks signature sauce, its hard not to stare, and drool just a little. Health Beauty Life with Patrick Dockry got the opportunity to meet with owner Scott Roberts who's father started the Salt Lick to find out what makes the Salt Lick so good, almost a million people come every year to taste their savory BBQ.
Came here about 3 years ago, for a post-graduation FEAST. It delivered nothing short of my expectations! Absolutely delicious, want to go back. 😭😋
Been there in 2012, and i was blown away because of the taste..... it was so good..
I do alot of cooking myself, i love to cook and i am a educated butcher with a passion for food, and it was a dream that came true by visiting The Salt Lick.
10/10, if i ever come to Austin again, then i know where to go for dinner =)
Greetings from Denmark
That dudes reaction when he took his first bite was genuine......that BBQ looks UNREAL!!!!
Went there in 1978 thru 1981 when I was in the air Force at bergstrom. Absolutely the best bbq around
Best bbq I have ever had!! You have to go to see the place. Everything is so delicious and the desserts are to die for!!
Its a VERY bad idea to watch this at 2 in the morning when hungry, and boy I just learnt that the hard way.
lol, i'm watching this at 1:19 am and craving bbq. lol!
Bucket list for me that I got to finally enjoy. Fort Worth girl made the drive. This place needs to be crowned best Barbecue in America. Hands don!
I'm from N.C. so I have my preferences, but seeing people anywhere taking time and making meat sing sweet music is awesome and I tip my hat.
By far the best BBQ I've ever had. I need to book a flight and go back!
"I'll pass on the bread???" If I'm the owner i say to Mr. Mooch....."I'll pass on giving you more free food".
Right it’s almost disrespectful
Oh god. Shut up.
I could eat this food everyday. My wife just ordered me a brisket from here for my birthday
The BURNT ENDS are the BEST....I love THE SALT LICK.
This man loves offering food with layers of pleasure, from texture to taste 😋
I had dinner 5 minutes ago, and now i'm hungry again after watching this video.
How I love the Salt Lick BBQ! My biennial trips to Austin aren't complete without a visit to this most venerable of Texas BBQ institutions. Long live the Salt Lick!
One of my co-workers came back from Austin. He was at Salt Lick. Brought back his lunch. His Lunch SMELLED so WONDERFUL! No, he did not offer me or my other co-worker any taste. Cannot wait to get down to Austin.
Made the trip from Ft Hood, Tx and I have to say that it was absolutely worth the visit! This is true southern cooking and reminds me of the southern food I have waiting for me back home in Florida.
The Best Barbecue ever no one can top this place Not anyone, I wish I could eat here every day of My Life. Thank You and God Bless your Mama and you for making this so darn GOOD!
Nice to see a 'hands on' owner, not an absentee profiteer of what was done before him and by others. He knows everything about everything and is interested in it all, has a reason for everything. Very articulate, good humored, accessible gentleman. Good for him! Success deserved.
Warren J Brown the owner spends his time on the cellars getting drunk only to come back in the main building to drunkenly yell and fire employees. He is pleasant when he isn't drunk. He is also drinking/holding wine while the TV guy was eating his meal.
I can almost guarantee the owner does not know how to "do" what he is talking about. I also noticed the wine, which is fine but its early in the day....
The owner is a sellout. Doesnt care about the restaurant anymore. Only cares about his land development and wine now. It's a shame
I've been there 4 times in the past 2 years when I'm out visiting family. Texas has insanely good barbecue, and the Salt Lick is one of the shining stars. The original place near Driftwood in hill country is awesome.
I live in San Antonio and made my way up there this week. IT'S AS AMAZING AS THEY SAY!
Loved that place when I lived near Austin took the long drive once a month because it was outstanding..
"Right on there, right on there, right now is..." 6:47 this got me for some reason hahaha
+Steven Silva hahah nice catch so funny
My mouth was watering the whole show 🤤
This is the best BBQ in the world.
feels like somebody who just walked in for some free food under the guise of an interview.
Ain’t nothing like Texas BBQ!!!
Salute you sir🤘
Amazing Australia NEEDS a Salt lick like desperately. Thanks for sharing.
you can tell the host had never had BBQ like this before. You see his face. LOL Salt lick is mmm mmmm goood.
that's sick as hell. did you see that brisket at 5:49 while he's slicing it. that thing is crying sweet juices. omg wish i could get my paws on a piece of that!!!!
ummm, i wouldn't taste as good
i'm not so sure about that, i thought i was pretty funny
Alutacon I also thought it was pretty funny. Plus why would anyone want to listen to a Patriot fan when it concerns Ethics.
Why would a vegetarian be watching this anyway?
Alutacon Salt Lick is good. Their sauce isnt the greatest (not that the brisket really needs any) but its real good for the sausage though.
I dream of owning a bbq joint one day...the salt lick looks like they have some taaaaasty brisket too
My wife & I love that place. Every time we are in Texas, we go there. Best brisket in the world. As a side note: I just discovered that Scott & I are distant cousins. Maybe I can get the family discount next time we are there.
“I’ll pass on the bread” lol
I have been there and that bbq is the best. Those ribs are sick, I mean so good I'm sick just watching this video wishing I had
some.
Freezer and plastic bags, that's how you know it's authentic Texas bbq.
yup
Right I'm getting hungry now
this is killing me! I want to be at that table right now!
I miss going to this place! Some of the best BBQ!
1 am and watching this..... I will have dreams of pork ribs and brisket dancing in my sleep tonight.
Best Brisket Ive had was from The Salt Lick in Driftwood Texas. I ordered through GoldBelly and I received a 4lb Brisket, A large Bottle of BBQ Sauce and a generous amount of Smoke Sausage. All of it was an eye opener for me. Here in San Diego CA they dont have anything to compare to this Texas BBQ. Nothing comes close.
My sister lives in Austin, its the best city ive ever been to, i truly love it! GREAT food there!
I'm drowning in saliva here!
its bad to watch this when you are hungry and got no food in your house.
Wise words dude :)
+Gergana Mendarova thanks facts of life :)
me too !!! hahaha

Went here about 9 years ago, well actually to the Round Rock location and thought it was really good. My cousin wanted to take us to Coopers but traffic on that Easter Sunday was terrible, so he reluctantly took us to Salt Lick instead. My cousin and the locals seemed to shit on Salt Lick and call it a tourist trap and pedestrian BBQ. Well that may be the case and yes over the years I've had better, but when you grow up in NYC and then move to Los Angeles, this place is food from god himself! When you drive up the aroma is mouth watering. I've had everything the host had and thought the pork ribs and sausage were the best. The sausage goes SOOO well with that bread and the BBQ sauce. I may have to mail order me some soon. Oh and the Pecan Pie...WOW!!
Coopers is the true tourist trap. :-)
John Barlow ha ha! I love Coopers had it mail ordered and eventually ate at the Fort Worth location. Please do tell why you think Coopers is a tourist trap? I love to hear people’s opinions on BBQ.
I was just there yesterday and it was amazing an always. I cant wait to go back.
I only recommend going to the Southern and Midwestern states....they never mess around with quality and the hospitality is always happy and always there for you!
Man, I would love to go there and get some good barbecue. You can't get it anywhere else but in Texas. 😍😍
Wow the best of the video was Scott way to treat people!!! Very nice person...!!! Now the ribs were Supreme!!
My family and I went there a few years ago and loved it! We got there early to make sure we had some place to sit and by the time we were ready to leave there was a line outside waiting to get into the dinning area. It was great! The employees even allowed me to take a tour of the pit because I mentioned I had an interest in learning how to smoke meats. I've been to the little restaurant at the Dallas airport, but to really appreciate their take on Texas BBQ, you need to eat at the original location. It was a nice drive too, so go there if you ever have the chance!
I've never been to USA always wanted to go but it has to be the south , just for amazing food like this .
Yes sir. Texas is filled with so many different kinds of food. In most areas, you're going to find good BBQ across the state, that's a given. Go a little further east, closer to Louisiana and you'll find more cajun food that's just as good as NOLA's (because people from there move to Texas and bring their recipes with them). You can go further north to a town called Muenster and get some excellent German cuisine as the town is renowned for their German heritage. And don't get me started on the plethora of Tex-Mex options, as well as plenty of authentic Mexican food options. Of course the big draw of Texas is BBQ and Tex-Mex, but it's a huge state with much to offer. 10 countries: The Netherlands, Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Macedonia, Luxembourg and Hungary would all fit inside Texas.
Me and 4 of my buddies are doing a barbecue trip out to Texas this summer. Salt Lick is high on the list.
Better places
Gotta go there, looks incredible!
those rips look amazing same with the brisket and burnt ends
I will be there in a week or so!!!! Totally looking forward to this :)
I have heard of this place. Seeing this video, sure want to go there. Thanks for this video.
Love this place been eating here for years now
I wish i could go there ! That place looks really cool.
Oh man! I know where I'm going on vacation! Hell Yeah!
Wow, that's one hell of an operation!
How could you not like this video!
Had the pleasure of eating here a few years back. Great food and some pretty property. One issue with the video... Texans just don't know about and don't do burnt ends. It's a Kansas City treat. Where the gentleman in the video sliced is not the burnt end. But again, TX doesn't typically do them. Great place to eat. Everyone needs to go and to get a picture of that pecan fire in the dining room.
Looks delicious. I like how they just keep the menu simple and cook it really good. I found this while looking for a way to BBQ turkey.
This is definitely on my bucket list
Man, i cant wait to eat here. I live in Alabama but I'm betting it will be worth the drive!
Greetings from Russia. I need to taste it.
Best BBQ ever. really! # Oklahoma Joe's in KC, , the Shed in Mississippi. , anyplace in OK.
kk La Habra, CA
Been there back in the 90's, picked up some beef ribs on our way to camp the little Arkansas river not far down the street. Salt lick has one heck of a place there, cool fence around it.
this place looks TREMENDOUS!!! I wish So Cal had a BBQ culture like texas and st louis! I LOVE a good BBQ joint. I live in san juan capistrano and we do have a very good place for authentic BBQ called bad to the bone, but you can never have enough BBQ places
I ate here last year, Amazing!!
Show up early during the week . They are busy . It’s a light natural flavor .
Their BBQ sauce is amazing too!
This is interesting to me. He said chilling the food before putting it on again makes it taste better... i had the same experience just by heating up the brisket slices the next day in the microwave... for me, it taste better.
good food, awkward interview.
+Suyoung Cho I thought the same, the chef really has to sit down with the presenter to give a sense of friendship and not so much intimidation or critique
i agree but to an extent. the man LOVES his creation and was so excited to have him try it he just couldn't walk away lol
Have been here.Its AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
Scott you're really doin it. I would have been there with you right now if I hadn't been 10,000 km away from you in africa. way to go'
Nice of him to put his finger in the freaking beans!!!🤣
This guy knows what he's talking about. Bam!!!
OMG! I really, really HAVE to have some of this!❤️
LMAO !!!! A long history .... from 1936. In Carolina we were smoking whole hog over hickory coals from the MID 1700's. THAT is history. Long before Texas was even thought of. Give me pulled pork, collard greens, potato salad and hush puppies, all washed down with sweet tea and banana pudding for desert.
You need to read some history my friend. 1700? Pff, those hogs you speak of came from Spain when the conquistadors conquered Mexico. Those hogs made there way up into North America and guess where they passed through first? Tejas!!!! Tejanos were making BBQ years before Carolina even saw a hog.
What a great VIDEO!!!!!!
Sweet jesus this looks so good.
Ate here back in June awesome BBQ
that place looks awesome!
I have never seen brisket juicing out like that! Awesome! I'm gonna try that place out one day!
I've known of this place for awhile, my wife and I wanted to go try it (we live in Dallas) but never managed to make our way down there. One day we will. But I'm swelling with Texas pride right now.
As a long haul trucker it seems a lot of people are swelling in Texas.
One hour and 45 min wait , is cash only and byo boose but is all worth it... the food is very good and yhe people that runs this place are very polite
Mouth watering right now...😋😋😋😋😋
I honestly don't think I could eat all that food they were serving him. But on the other side of the coin, I don't think I could stop eating. XD
Texas BBQ at its very best..
Bem diferente da churrascaria no Brasil. Deve também ser uma delícia!
Okay, I had some for the first time this past weekend and I can't stop thinking about how delicious the BBQ at Salt lick was. Remember to take take cash, cards are not accepted.
Maaaaan! Salt Lick hooks it UP!!!!
Beautiful!
My mouth is watering now.
I'm sure it is good. Will get over there one day.
Watching this and not being able to eat there is goddamm torture!
My favorite bbq place!
In '10, I was out visiting my father in Houston and saw this place on an episode of "Man vs. Food." We took a trip out to Austin and it was so worth the drive.
CZcams algorithm at its best again, 5 and 1/2 years old video keep getting recommended.
Casual youtube
I could eat the whole pit
Now that is a meal wow
You can tell burnt ends aren't traditional Texas bbq because they come from the point not the flat
david bradford Yeah, I was noticing that too. I am Texan but I know the burnt end are on the point, not the flat.
david bradford This is the first I've heard anything like this. Burnt ends are always ends. Yes, I'm Texan and live a couple of miles down the street from SL. I guess it's being from a family of competition Q'ers. Every time I request burnt ends, they indeed are ends in Texas.
Did he say the coleslaw is with cabbage and vinegar? Sry i am from germany and i think that it´s sound like "weisskraut" because of the cabbage and vinegar. Sorry if i am wrong. I love bbq and visit the south usa from time to time.
