  • Dooky Chase was founded by Emily and Dooky Chase, and their daughter-in-law, award-winning chef Leah Chase, took over with her husband in 1945. While it's known for all of its creole menu items, it's most known for its gumbo and Shrimp Clemenceau.

    Being Asian & never been to the states I would love to try southern cuisine. It somehow reminds me of the type of cooking that a grandma would make for her grandchildren. Homely, filling and delicious.

      It's delicious on occasion but extremely unhealthy and yes alot of our food came from slaves who made do with what they had. I'm grateful to have had a lot of this cuisine but its bit meant to be consumed everyday.

    Amazing Place & Woman. So Blessed to have had the gumbo there served to Me by Mrs. Chase herself! Love Love Love she had Us try her Gumbo!!! Felt like home & then some. So sad she's gone but Her memory lives on through Her Food, Family & Love.

    My first trip to New Orleans it was a goal of mine to meet Mrs. Chase, since that time I’ve had the honor of meeting her 3 times I was so sad to hear of her passing. If you are ever down there and you get a chance it’s worth the stop.

    When your restaurant has been featured on a Disney anime and even a Ray Charles song, you know you got it made! It truly is a Princess and the Frog ending moment! Congrats to this place for 70 years of rich legacy and delicious food, and hopefully 70 more to come! 😀😀😀

    I looooovvvvveeeee Creole and Cajun food but i live in Asia and the only way i can enjoy it is to make it my own, and still it tastes so delicious. Imagine being to eat what the professional made

    Used to love boiling frying, deep frying throwing them in the fryer. Usually was a fire.
    Never ate a frog or toad but pretty fun to cook Alive a couple decades ago.

      As long as you don't come during Mardi Gras or around a major festival like Jazz Fest or Voodoo Fest, coming from Cali is not expensive. I'm from Los Angeles so I have become pretty great at finding good flight deals when I visit from NOLA.

      @@Sweet_Karma I know, but if the name of a restaurant is reminiscent of feces, i.e. "DOOKY" then NO I won't be able to eat the food, no matter how good it looks and smells. Though it may seem a bit childish, it's not unreasonable. I wouldn't eat at a place called Snot or any other place that name has a negative connotation. I'm already a picky eater as it is. 😂
