  • Step-By-Step HOW TO replace your car battery. I'll be showing you how to replace the battery in this 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner, But the process is very similar in almost any other vehicle. You only need a couple tools or wrenches and in most cases a good crescent wrench will do the job.
    Make sure you save your receipt for your battery as they usually come with a multi year warranty and it will pay for itself when your battery goes bad and you can swap it out for a Brand NEW Battery and go a few more years.
    Autozone has some really good prices and they offer Military and Police discounts. Here's their website- www.autozone.com

    Replacing a battery isn't a typically difficult task, but a quick tutorial is always nice. The missing (and some say crucial) part that bothers me the most is a battery backup. If it's disconnected for too long (How long is "too long?") your ECU will start to lose settings. We're talking fuel trims, various other engine settings and your engine will reset to default which can change your mileage while the computers re-learn everything, possibly the auto up/down window settings and other stuff.

      That’s very good info. I don’t think most people worry or understand that that can happen. 🤙🏼

      Need to make sure you have the terminals on the right side. Positive to posited and negative to negative. It might reset your radio clock and stuff but should be all the same afterwards. Also make sure the battery is the right size.

    Can you recommend an "easy to use" multimeter to check auto fuses and my 12V battery? I see so many of them on Amazon, I get overwhelmed. Thank you.

    • @FortKnoxCo
      @FortKnoxCo  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I know exactly what you’re talking about. Unfortunately they all have the many selections to choose from. It takes a little bit of reading or just understanding the range you want to have it set in to be able to read the right numbers you’re looking for. Most likely you’ll only ever use 1 or 2 setting on that thing. It’s either reading low voltage range or high voltage range like in the home 120-240 range. I wish I could help you select one. But I’d just say get one that’s not too expensive and has the basic dial with ranges that most have. You don’t need anything fancy.

    Tried to get a new batt installed in my 2018 4rnr SR5 today at Walmart. After installation they could not start the vehicle. Tried all the fuses. Nothing. Ended up having it towed to the Toyota dealer. It’s still there. Any idea what they did wrong at Walmart?

    • @FortKnoxCo
      @FortKnoxCo  Před rokem

      I’m assuming they just disconnected and reconnected the battery for install. Not sure how you mess that up. I’m assuming it was running when you dropped it off? Lol. If you checked all the fuses and looked it over not seeing anything out of place, I think you did the right thing and take it to Toyota. They are probably gonna have to hook it up n see what codes it’s throwing . Maybe the new battery install by Walmart messed with the computer when it got powered back up. Hopefully it’s not the CPU.

      They probably put the cables on backwards and blew a main fuse or worse. Never let anyone at Wally World touch your car. The stock battery lasts for 10 years. I’m surprised you needed it replaced so soon.

      What would have been nice is to show the order of connection. Safety doesn't enter your mind at all does it? Do you connect the positive first or the negative first? You just skipped over that.

    Is a memory saver necessary?

    • @FortKnoxCo
      @FortKnoxCo  Před rokem

      I’m not sure what you asking about. I wouldn’t be worried about the memory of you vehicle when changing the battery. If it’s a new enough vehicle it usually has stuff saved so when you hook up the new battery it’s good to go.

      I was curious about this too, I’ve changed batteries in the past and the radio gets locked and you have to enter a code to unlock, I end up taking mine to the dealer to avoid this pain.

    Can a 24 car battery be replaced by a Ever Start 24F?

    • @FortKnoxCo
      @FortKnoxCo  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It appears so. From looking it up the 24/24f are both top terminal batteries and should fit in same make models. Common in Acura, Honda, infinity, Lexus, Nissan and Toyota

      @@FortKnoxCo That really eases my mind. One friend told me, it could damage my car, a 2009 Suzuki. Another told me, I had to hook the positive to the negative, and the negative to the positive. So I was really confused and afraid. The 24F fits well into the battery holder, and even though the positive and negative battery posts are on the opposite side of the battery, the cables still connect well to the posts. I think those "MAXX" Ever Start batteries are a good buy for the money, much less costly than an O'Riely brand. Thank you SO very much! I just subscribed and gave you 👍

      @@dr.j6747 that’s awesome! I really appreciate it. …. And just incase you were considering switching the positive and negative hook ups, do NOT do that. THAT is what could damage your electronics

      @@FortKnoxCo Thank you again for the "safety" info. I thought I read, the 24F stood for "reverse polarity" but I am a mechanicDUMMY, lol, so I REALLY appreciate your expertise and kind replies. I'm thinking the 24 and 24F must be made for different model cars with batteries situated in different locations under the hood. Is that correct, or am I off-base again, lol?

    • @FortKnoxCo
      @FortKnoxCo  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@dr.j6747 no problem at all. You are probably correct with with model # & Letters. The batteries will sometimes have a different shape or exterior feature or size dimensions based off of those number/letter combinations.
