    RDR2 Is one of my all time favorite games. The story, setting, acting, scenery, and gameplay are the best! I was surprised at the accuracy of the guns in the game. My biggest pet peeves are guns in video games that don't operate like they do in real life. I was taken aback by the reloading mechanics especially with the Spencer carbine. Rockstar worked out every little detail and it's 10/10 in my book. Great video Dustin! Glad I'm not the only one who looks for small details like this!

    The Navy Revolver featured in the online mode of the game is out of scale-- the size of the gun in-game is somewhere between a real-life 1851 and a Dragoon. The size (and power) would be more realistic if it were a Dance revolver rather than modeled off a Colt.
    Funny how the 'sight upgrade' on the LeMat or the Navy is simply a re-shaped notch in the hammer.

    • @matchesburn
      @matchesburn Před 3 lety +1

      @@BobGeanis
      There are minor inaccuracies, yes, but technically the game takes place from 1899 up until 1907 (I won't speak any further than that because that's spoiler territory for anyone who hasn't played the game). So things like the Browning Auto-5 being in the game... Yeah, it really shouldn't be available for purchase in 1899, but it would still be in the game. The "M1899" oddity is basically an FN Model 1899/1900 with more like a FN Model 1903 grip angle, apparently done because it had to use animations adapted from the revolvers in-game (with more angled grips). The problem I have with the game is that the weapon options often make no sense. Why, why in god's name would anyone seriously be carrying around a Volcanic Repeater for self-defense? There was even a documented case where a man attempted to kill himself with it by *_shoot himself in the head multiple times and surviving_* because the power of the "Rocket Ball" ammunition. The most egregious part is that Rockstar games locked iconic things like the Colt 1851 Navy (and an elephant rifle) behind multiplayer so you can only use such an iconic old west weapon in multiplayer mode (NOTE: On PC you can enjoy this in singleplayer/offline with the use of completely legal and free-to-use mods. On consoles? Nope. You're out of luck.).
      Most of the firearms in game are actually really odd choices, and with many being incredibly out-dated variants of what would be available. I mean, there were only 14,000 Henry rifles produced and many were lost during the Civil War. And production stopped in 1866. Would you still see Henry rifles? Perhaps, especially among Native American tribes and perhaps the Confederate hold-outs (the "Lemoyne Raiders") in Lemoyne in-game. But they would be rare. Especially given the much more numerous Winchester rifles. And ammunition would be an issue. So who would buy a Henry rifle in 1899 when you have just entire piles of Winchester rifles with much more available ammunition available for cheaper? Outside of a savvy time traveler that wants to buy a potential museum-piece grade rifle for collecting... No one. It's like they just added it because it was, at one point, iconic or important - just like the Volcanic pistol.
      Don't even get me started on how there's no Remington M1858 in the game despite there being a Colt Navy... And despite being a game about the dying old west... And there being buffalo in-game... There's no Sharps rifle (despite one being in the previous game!). Why? Would have also liked to have seen a Winchester Model 1895 (or any of the newer Winchesters, really - why they decided to go with the Winchester of choice being a Winchester Model 1866 Yellow Boy of all things I'll never understand). And if you're going to go up until 1907 in the game... why not something like the Winchester Model 1907? Or how about a revolver/revolving carbine like the Pieper Revolving Carbine?

    "Would you wanna play a game where your cap and ball revolver takes as long to load as the real one?"
    Yes. And not only longer, but manual interactive reloading controls in games are something I desperately want to see more of. It can add a lot of tension to combat encounters, and requires you to place your shots carefully. You're not going to be reloading a C&B in combat, so it would be all about the preparation, and tactics.
    I once played a short indie horror game called "The Fruit", that had a full manual reloading system on a Trapdoor Springfield. You press a button and he holds the gun up to the screen, and you use the left mouse drag to open the trapdoor, drag a new round in, close it, and cock the hammer. It was super bad***, and added a ton of tension to the combat. It makes you approach encounters differently, and even facing two opponents is super risky. At one point, it sends a mob after you! (mild spoiler sorry)
    If you're interested, the game is Dread X: The Hunt. Dread X is a horror anthology series, so it comes with other games, but most of them aren't as good as The Fruit.
