  • Finally got around to covering the iconic ending from Your Lie in April on my very own happy piano!
I started a new job in March, and have been grinding pretty hard lately. I haven't had time to prioritize practicing as much, which unfortunately means less covers. I did end up spending some more time on this piece (almost 2 months on-and-off) to try and raise the bar on the playing.
This piece taught me a lot about phrasing and surprisingly... scales. There's a lot of small "ornaments" that you need to bring out to really make it sound like more than two voices. There also is some underlying trickiness to using the same hand and bringing out the melody while keeping the accent notes quieter.
Lastly, there were a ton of fast runs which took a TON of muscle memory and grinding to get under my fingers. Breaking down 3:54 into a g-major scale helped a ton even though the fingering was irregular.
I really enjoyed learning this after being so emotionally invested in the show. Kousei and Kaori managed to stay in my heart yet again.

If it's you, that's kind of a dope coincidence lol

This was really good! I used to know this piece, but then transcribed by Theishter but James' version is really nice as well. I totally forgot how to play it though since it has been years xD

Thank you!! I think I tried Theishter's quite a while ago but didn't really fall in love with it. James' has a lot of tricky passages in there too!

Something is wrong with the sound quality from your recording. I listened to Hikaru Nara and the sound quality is perfect. But for this song and the Jujutsu Kaisen, the sound quality is much worse and sounds boomy sometimes. It sounds like you were recording with 1/4 audio cables that are poor quality. If this is the case, use quality cables to improve sound quality and make sure they aren't damaged. The Hikaru Nara recording sounded very clean like it came from a USB recording.
Still great performance. Let me know what use to record so I can help.

It’s all coming from the same cable and VST, and JJK was recorded on my old (more performant laptop) so I can rule that out. Is it that the sounds actually crackling or is it too much echo/can you describe the “boom”
Been tweaking with VST settings and can’t quite decide on something to roll with

@@MyPianoAcademia Oh I didn’t know it was VST. I thought it was coming directly from the Nord sound library. So I think what’s happening is the reverb settings are different. What ever you did with Hikaru Nara that was great settings. Maybe you can save the settings as a preset to use in future videos.
And what VST is this btw just curious?

@@BlackjackYak54 I think I cranked up the reverb on the last 2 recordings so that explains it…
      It’s the vienna steinway D-274!

@@MyPianoAcademiabtw, i think all the pianist using VST have a secret on editing the audio. Because, although, i edited my cfx garritan the same as Theishter, the sound when i recorded wasnt quality as him.

I use the same vst, well idk if my sound is better or not depends on the taste ig but I messed around with it for hours lol maybe if you turn up the dynamic or the midi sensitivity it might be a little better, well it has a lott of reverb but personally I dont mind it too much but turning it a bit down shouldn't be too bad,it's more like that it could have more variation in the dynamics for me
      Anyway nice playing 👏
