The debut recording by the young American soprano Nadine Sierra shares its title and message with the first line of "Somewhere" from "West Side Story", with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. “I wanted this album to give a little bit of hope that there is always going to be a place for everyone,” she says, her voice ringing with the same passion that has filled opera houses around the globe. “This is my way of putting that idea into action, to spread a positive message.”

Praised for her vocal beauty, seamless technique, and abundant musicality, Nadine Sierra is being hailed as one of the most promising, young talents in opera today. She was named the Richard Tucker Award Winner in 2017 and was awarded the 2018 Beverly Sills Artist Award by the Metropolitan Opera. Having made a string of successful debuts at the Met, Teatro alla Scala, Opéra national de Paris, and Staatsoper Berlin, she has become a fixture at many of the top houses around the world. On August 24th, 2018, her debut album, There’s a Place for Us, was released under the Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Music labels.

I'm so glad she recorded these Villa-Lobos songs (the Cantilena from the Bachianas Brasileiras and the 2 love songs from Floresta do Amazonas). I first met the artistry of Nadine Sierra years ago singing Villa-Lobos songs in her early career, here in CZcams. I was immediately struck by the beauty of her voice, the sensitivity and musicality of her singing and the refined care of her interpretation (including a really nice Portuguese pronunciation just for a change!). Even years ago she was perfectly fit for those Brazilian songs, and here she demonstrates she matured her skills even more and sings these pieces wonderfully. I also thank her because the worldwide opera audience should really know the Floresta do Amazonas songs, as well as the beautiful repertoire of American songs she chose for this album, much better than they do now.

She was born in Florida so to where does she return? Extraordinary that someone can express an opinion about their own country and a desire to make it even better but someone, as a consequence, suggests she goes to a country that is not the one of her birth…….and which would it be: Portugal or Puerto Rico? Hers is a truly stunning voice
