    To make clotted cream it is baked slowly in the oven and that is when you get the yellowish crust on the top of the cream . It's the bit that most people like the best. Jam and then cream for me. They say you should aways break your scone rather than cut it .

    Jam first for me. Milk first in a china cup, they used to do that to stop the cup from shattering with the heat of the boiling water apparently. Sandwich with no crusts and cut into fingers is the traditional English tea way Macaroons are made with ground almonds which is why you thought the taste was like marzipan. Looks very tasty 😋😍

    That cream tea looked lush 😍 and beautiful weather also 🌞 I read that if the scone is warm the put the jam on first otherwise the cream will melt, but does it really matter, it all goes down the same hole 😉 I say scone as like stone, but who cares, just give me CAKE 🧁🥮 🐷😂

      Black tea no sugar, I say scone, jam then cream, no butter,but if a fruit scone no jam or cream, just butter. Mum taught us no butter before jam on a scone or on white bread, too much dairy. £25 is good for afternoon tea, some hotels and restaurants charge almost £100 for 2 people. Even here in Australia they charge up to $100 for 2,and that's without the bubbly.👋💕🇦🇺

      @@betagombar9022 that's a great tip putting the jam on before the cream so the cream doesn't melt. I am definitely going to try that when I get the opportunity. Where I'm from we pronounce it "sgon" like its vanished lol! Exactly what a cream tea does when this fat lass has the opportunity 😄

    • @patriciaharris4971
      @patriciaharris4971 Před měsícem +1

      What you have are macarons not macaroons. A macaron is a meringue based sandwich cookie whereas a macaroon is a drop cookie made with shredded coconut. In Australia we call a cream tea a Devonshire tea (who knows why). We serve with whipped cream not clotted cream. As clotted cream is the consistency of butter it makes sense to put that on first. With whipped cream better to put jam first. I work in a tea room where our staple is scones with jam and cream. We pronounce it scon not scone. We also have a gluten free version. Your high tea looked great.

    Macaroons are small flat cakes with coconut on rice paper as apposed to macarons that are made from egg whites with flour and almonds and added flavours piped then baked. They are then sandwiched together with cream. I have not made them myself but watch lots of bakery shows. I grew up with tea time at the weekends. My mum always had a tablecloth and teacups and a teapot. I was given a teapot as a wedding present but never use it. Our daughter when she was little always loved going to stay with my parents on the Isle of Wight as she used to love choosing what she wanted in her sandwich and cake, great memories 😊

    In regard to the tea/coffee and dehydration, while it's true that both coffee and tea technically have a dehydrating effect on you, it's completely negated by the liquid you're consuming when drinking the tea/coffee. So in other words, the liquid the caffeine makes you lose by drinking a cup, is less than the liquid you gain from drinking a cup.

Scones each (doesn't matter how you pronounce it or jam/cream first) then the cakes. We all had to take all the cakes home as we just didn't have any room left at all. I had booked a curry meal in the evening as didn't know what the afternoon tea would be like (it's was my first... I was a virgin!!) And I ended up taking most of the curry home cause was still full from the afternoon. I think your table could have had a parasol, the sandwiches and cakes were under the hot sun. Lovely video, thanks for taking us (virtually) for that delicious afternoon tea! I think that is the same place where Tim stayed in a chalet house, it was modern inside with good use of the available space.

    Wow, looks amazing. If I were to be picky I would say they should have cut the crusts off the sandwiches lol. I always put the jam on my scone first then you can spread it out better.

    Cream on first, then the jam (it’s like putting cream cheese then jam on your bagel)

    We are in 🇨🇦 and just watched and loved this vlog.We love afternoon tea and have enjoyed it in Devon with our cousins. So delicious. Warners looks lovely and it’s not so stuffy as some places that serve this seem to be. Just a tip, it’s pronounced macarons, like the French say. Macaroons or Frogs as sometimes called here, are not as fancy and are made of coconut and chocolate. Love you Gaby, Tim , Casper and Holly. 💗

    several reasons on why to put milk before tea. Coagulation factor ; it blends easier. From the old time they discovered that putting the hot tea into the milk prevented the china in breaking and the last one it keeps the cup more clean

    What a lovely afternoon tea, the weather loves amazing. The scone and sandwiches look lush, I would have to have something different on the top tier I would have fruit tarts or meringues I don’t like cake. It looks fab and such a nice date afternoon with you and Tim 😀👍❤️
