Blown Valkyrie Demo

  • I shot this video to help a fellow Valkyrie rider assess whether his supercharger is performing correctly. The issue is the expected/normal boost/vacuum throughout its operating bands.
    My supercharged Valkyrie is a 2000 Standard model that had its blower installed soon after it was titled. The blower was upgraded to the 2nd generation setup that does not have the J-tube. To complete and improve the performance of the blower bike I fashioned a custom air intake plenum and K&N filter to let the bike breath like it should. I use the Baker Air-Wings to direct cold air to the air intake. I have a Dyna 3000 ignition module with a Hobbs switch to retard the timing when on boost. Since I have standard pistons and connecting rods I have the boost dialed in to 7 psi max. This setup has 42K miles on it and it still runs strong and reliably. I love this bike!!!

      After getting married several years ago now, I let the big hot rod sit mainly because of working away from home and then when I was at home and we did ride she only wanted to ride the dresser. Well I thought about selling the Valkyrie but just couldn't. Now I want to do more mods to it but I'm wanting to buy another 1 or 2 or maybe... 🤣I can't get enough of my favorite bike of all times. Oh and aw, the wife likes it now because of how when many many times when ppl found out I've got one their eyes and demeanor would light up and they'd enthusiastically exclaim "WOW, you've got a Valkyrie!!!". She's quit proud of that Honda now. Long spill I know but I'm into this excellent post so please forgive me for butting in.

    Thanks for the comments. Yes, I run a car tire on this bike and two others. I prefer them on my Valkyries. Lots of traction for acceleration, braking and turning, a great ride, and they last a long, long time. To each their own, it's simply my choice. In the video I'm running a 65 series tire. I now run a larger diameter 70 series. Acceleration is improved as the larger diameter tire takes better advantage of the engine's torque output.

    • @BonFShaw
      @BonFShaw  Před rokem

      @@sstroh08 It really depends upon the tire profile and air pressure. That said, in all cases the bike does have a slight tendency to be more upright, but it's nothing that can't be compensated for with experience. I'd never go back as there are too many advantages for heavy bikes that eat up motorcycle tires and flat too easily. (Kinda of a late response eh?)

      @@neilbrown82 you're definitely right. I've got the overdrive gear set from Italy and even with the supercharger top (5th) gear is just for cruising. It doesn't really big but it's definitely not a power gear. After riding with some sport bike buddies on some really fun super twisty back roads I decided I needed to go back to the stock 4th gear but I think the big overdrive 5th will be fine to leave in. No doubt about it though when the throttle is wacked in top gear it just smoothly picks up but not like it would with the stock top gear. I agree 5 gears is enough.👍

That bike is fast compared to stock. Many sports bike are now 150HP plus and they weigh maybe 2/3 of this thing. Very hard to judge acceleration unless from a very very fast machine, usually when you see it from a still camera.

    Power without end, chrome, dashboard like a spaceship and then a car tire at the rear wheel. Your amis are such bad motorcyclists. Always just go straight, that can chimps. Stupid. Driving curves is the experience with the bike, it does not go with crappy car tires.

    You ride like a turd, just crank it open! And pass other cars left or right, that's the aim of bikes like these, not for bragging about in the pub.
