Overall, the fake Akrapovic sounds are so better and deep ! And in my opinion, unless one races on tracks, Chinese (copied) "Akrapovic" are really good for the daily drive motorbikes :)
I have two of these on my 1997 Kawasaki Gpz 500S twin with custom made link pipes. Been running them for 6 months with no problems. They have got louder so I repacked the smaller baffles with wadding and wrapped wire around the wadding to stop it getting blown out. Works well. Without the wadding my Kawasaki is noticeably quicker, but too noisy for commuting and going out early in the mornings. It's not real carbon....
picked up one of these a while ago to use on a 50cc. really good for the price so I just bought a new one for my 350 as well. paid $55 for the 470mm one
I have a Real Akrapovič, and i live in the same country as the company, and i can tell you, there are no inperfections in the exhaust. Its made out of Japanese Titanium and Real Carbon fiber and will last for EVER. This chinese knockoff has alot of rinkles and you can clearly see the exhaust is painted instead of having that titanium look.
@@Gixxer983 Come on man, what are you on about. Akrapovic has their own foundry so it's not "japanese titanium". Wings exhausts are made by former akrapovic employees who also use titanium at significantly lowet prices. Even chinese mufflers might be worth it out of sheer price/benefit ratio. Also, just because something is original doesn't mean it's good. Mivv made carbon fiber exhausts for the dorsoduro 750 and the carbon fiber delaminated at the tips, just like some carbon fiber mufflers for the rotax engined aprilias
Maybe change the packing stuff with some kaowool insulator? The kaowool is made to resist very VERY high temperatures and won’t burn, while insulating this making it sound less metallic
Ive taken apart every can I have ever owned to tune to the tone i liked by either sleeving over baffle or changing the packing. Theyre all basically the same. Seems to me some of these higher priced like akra just rape the customer.
The extra small diameter baffle that comes with these mufflers they refer to as a "DB killer". That baffle is inserted into the exit of the muffler and cuts the exhaust flow significantly. It wouldn't be an issue at low to mid-range RPM around town, but, I would assume, it could be an issue at higher RPM or possibly on long runs on the highway. Once again, I have not dyno tested this assumption and it is only based on knowledge of exhaust flow and the effects of restrictions on backpressure, and therefore, engine performance.
That would be up to you. I would wait until the muffler required a re-pack, but doing it immediately wouldn't hurt. It may change the tone, would be an interesting experiment to see which is better, if any.
Thanks for putting up this video. When you said take away from the top end, did you mean the engine's performance? I'm thinking of purchasing one of these for my Honda Cb-1 which is running a stock exhaust but would be worried about a decrease in performance.
Yes, I was thinking about top end performance with the "DB killer" installed, but the owner liked it open so I didn't get a chance to try it out. The muffler has a nice sound without the killer installed and has no apparent affect on the performance.
Sorry for taking so long to reply. I am on mobile internet and it wouldn't let me post a reply. Every time I typed a reply, the post button was hidden behind the text box; Lois like they fixed it.
Yes and I’ll explain. The MT07 has a one piece exhaust system coming from the factory. What it means is you have to replace all the exhaust system , including the headers. Since you’re removing all the factory exhaust parts, specifically the catalytic converter, you MUST retune your fuel map because the gas flow is less restricted. At this point, getting a Chinese exhaust, whether it’s a replica or a custom made by a questionable work shop is extra risky. Skip china and invest in a decent system, including a retune.
@@arkashaes6618 I would disagree. Although you don't know the workmen ship of what you are purchasing, China doesn't always make low quality stuff. They can even make an exact copy of items with the same materials and build quality. Buy from a trusted supplier read reviews from other people who have bought from them and do your homework and you will be fine. You will only need a retune if you get a pipe that has no cat in it. But they also sell pipes with the cat which means no tune required. It can be safe to buy from China if you do a bit of research and ask the supplier questions.

I can't tell from looking at it exactly but the only cheaper component I see is the carbon fiber. It looks like fake carbon fiber which isn't a problem either. It might change color over time. If that is something that bothers you, for the price you can keep replacing it and still spend less. And they do make real carbon fiber options for not too much more.
Sorry for the delay, I was having issues with replying. I would say that it is a fairly well made muffler, especially for the money. The sound deadening material is as good or better than any other aftermarket muffler I have had and the carbon fibre is thick and well finished. The metal parts are nicely finished and well made as well. I don't have an actual Akropovic to compare to, so I can't speak to any differences in quality between them.
Hi, I hope you are reading this, but do you think you can make a video about the same muffler, but with the white 'wool' removed? And also in the video, the wool + decibel killer removed. I am really wondering how it would sound like.
The Anarchist i can answer that....it will sound like an obnoxious pile of shit, especially on smaller bikes. Theres thousands of morons riding round here with gutted out pipes because they think bleeding ears = big power. It doesnt, it = FUCKING MORON.
Exactly, my dad used to own a Suzuki GT 750, 3 cylinder 2 stroke bike. When he was driving it in a tunnel, the muffler wool became too hot and 'burned-out', so he had what I wanted to hear of this Chinese Akrapovic muffler. His friend driving behind him on a Kawasaki Zephyr, told him it sounded like a F-16 flew through the tunnel.
We have had no issue with the engine running this muffler without the "DB killer". I wouldn't run it hard with the killer on place. I think it is worth the money but would like to get a real Akrapovic to take apart and compare. I don't recommend or not recommend these products, it is up to you whether or not to use them; I am just trying to show what they are like and how they work for me.
Thank you for the reply sir. Appreciate it alot. Will survey n decide soon. Current using scproject gp exhaust. Its very loud. Kinda worried that neighbors will complain 😅
I am not a fan of loud just for the sake of loud, I like a throaty, powerful sound. I have to admit that I like the sound of this muffler and for around town or just cruising the highway the "decibel killer" does a pretty good job of bringing the sound down. I also shortened this muffler and it still wasn't overly loud. The one thing I can say is that the sound packing material will probably have to be replaced on occasion, but that is common with most "glass pack" mufflers. There are more robust materials available once the original is worn out. If you haven't watched it yet, I do have a video of the bike running with the shortened muffler.
Thinking of try this item. Universal removable muffler silencer. have you tried this before? any review? Image: thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/D0IAAOSwj85YQjAR/s-l225.jpg
I haven't done anything on those particular "silencers", but, it is basically the same as the "decibel killer" that comes with the replicas. It does take the sound down a bit, but also add a restriction to the exhaust flow. This may not cause issues around town and at lower RPM, but I wouldn't trust them at higher speeds. Without actually running one on a dynamometer, I can't give you a definite answer, just an opinion based on my experience with back pressure. Remember, you are running an engine the size of a small car engine at twice the average RPM, so exhaust flow is critical to performance and engine life. If your existing muffler had a removable baffle, check the vondition of any sound deadening material on the muffler; it may be a simple fix.
It all comes down to bucks; $400+ for a real one or less than $100 for a good replica. I wouldn't buy a $20 muffler, but this one isn't a bad choice if you are looking for louder and throatier than stock on a budget. If I had the gear, I'd pull a real one apart and then run the 2 on a dyno just to see if the real one is worth the money. The other thing is, this is a high mileage, hard driven bike that probably has a limited lifespan. The customer was just looking for some sound and looks, not performance.
I don't think what aftermarket you get it's all the same but research the length makes a difference in gaining or loosing top end, the shorter the exhaust the more top end and longer is more bottom end power, Google long vs short exhaust
That can be a general "rule of thumb", but isn't a hard and fast rule. There are many aspects of the intake and exhaust that affect the torque and HP peaks and the usable RPM of the engine as well as how a silencer change will affect the overall performance. Some are; header diameter and length (which are tuned for a particular RPM); intake box, carb stack or individual air cleaners; engine displacement; carb or computer tune; carb\throttle body size; engine mods; etc. The efficiency of the particular muffler has a large effect on engine power. Any change to the exhaust requires a check of the effect on the fuel ratio to ensure it's not running lean. Every change to airflow may require fuel tuning for optimum and safe results.
I would assume, and hope, that a real Aprapovic would be better tuned for performance and possibly sound as well as having better materials, such as a stainless baffle and external parts, rather than painted or powder coated steel. Without a real one to compare, and a dyno to test for any performance difference, this is just an assumption. In some cases, the Chinese companies reverse engineer an actual product. In other cases, the Chinese company actually manufacturers the "real" product for the brand name company and then either sells off any rejects (seconds) or simply continues production over the requested number and sells off the additional products as reproductions. And the last possibility is that the Chinese company simply manufacturers a cheaper reproduction version that looks like the original. Of course, the main difference that many people look at is cost; an original Aprapovic is hundreds of $, whereas a replica is as little as $50. The cheapest repro may be the same quality as the most expensive, but I usually stay away from the cheapest as they are usually the last category, a cheaply made repro. The mid-range products can be as good as the most expensive, but always read reviews and make up your own mind as to whether the product is going to be of a reasonable quality.
