    In 1978 My dad and I did Springfield, VA to Port Angeles, WA in his newly acquired 1946 Ranger powered F-24. Memories I will never forget.

    The perfect step up from a Pietenpol.... what a great, beautiful aircraft ! I almost bought one out here in Ca. a few years ago. It was out at Desert Center, a 1936 with a 185hp Ranger. But, life changes and we bought a 1949 NAvion instead... We definitely LOVE our Navion ! I'll follow you through these videos though, Living the life at L00. Thanks for posting !

    Thanks for the video! I have a thing for Fairchild aircraft since I worked with an ex-Fairchild engineer at Potomac Edison Co. BTW, Hagerstown is actually located in Maryland.

    Hey Dewey,
    I always enjoy your grass roots flying videos. Keep em coming! I'm in Columbus Ohio building a Grega Aircamper myself, with hopes of one day dropping in on you at the DueyDrome. It may be a couple years but it something to shoot for! Cheers!

    Beautiful airplane! My friend had a F-24. Beautiful piece of workmanship in the Fairchild. I loved the lines of the 30's. Owned a Stinson (46) 108 for 20 years. Really enjoy your channel. Also really like your champ. First ride in one in 1956.

    Grace, Elegance and Style Three words that are used when you talk about the Fairchild. When I was a small boy, my father had a 1939 Ranger powered Fairchild 24. Years later I got to fly a Warner powered 46 Fairchild. Great airplane.

    Great adventure. In the '80's I ferried several Cessna Ag Wagons to Washington from the factory. I loved the challenge of the mountain flying in a light plane. Hope you had good cabin heat.

    Way too many questions while you are rolling out from ATC. In those winds you are still very much flying the airplane. You multitask very well. I guess the controllers are totally used to headset mikes and push to talk. I am retired airline pilot but have flown a lot of old airplanes with just a speaker and a hand mic. (Or a handheld and no electrical system...)
    Beautiful production quality in this video.

    Beautiful plane!
    What engine is this? Any pics of it?
    You began the Flt IFR? How, with the older panel?
    Thanks for the ride!

    • @watashiandroid8314
      @watashiandroid8314 Před 3 lety +1

      IFR jokingly means "I follow roads" (or rivers or railroads). That said, the equipment needed for en-route IFR isn't much and this plane might meet it (assuming it could pass the pitot/static and mode c tests).
      Edit: got another look at the panel and yeah, not enough for instrument flight rules.

    I'm curious to know the fuel burn rate for the trip. Also, are you adding anything to the fuel? I've heard Ranger engines like an additive to 100LL.

    • @DeweyDavenport
      @DeweyDavenport  Před 3 lety +3

      Bill we started out planning 12 gph for the trip but once we got out of the mountains we started stretching out the legs. When it was all said and done, we got down to 9 gph. The 24-K has two 20 gallon tanks so at 12gph it didn't leave a lot of room to fly long legs but at 9 gph we were flying over 3 hours pretty easily.

    HI Dewey. What plane do you fly with NetJets? I'm a retired corporate pilot for an energy company located on the East Coast. My last ride was a G-280. I miss the jets but I own a Stinson 108. Now I'm low and slow, but I'm OK with that. No more 4 o'clock get-ups!
