Fun Fact for you, James:
The Character that Robin Williams played in this movie was based on a real person, though much of his dialogue was ad-libbed
I remember seeing this in the movie theaters laughing my butt off.
And the red head twins were both in Terminator 2.
Nice, I got it right!
My two favorite movies with Robin Williams is “The Bird Cage” it is freaking hilarious! And “Good Will Hunting” the best dramatic performance ever. You would def enjoy both movies 😊
I’d throw Awakenings, Dead Poets’ Society, and The Fisher King on that list as well.
I don't think I've seen you laugh as hard as you have in this film: it was beautiful
You're right about the twins, but it was both of them in the shot. They didn't have to use special effects using twins. A great movie and a fun reaction.
Also RIP, Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman from the BATMAN Animated Series passed away today at age 66.
Aww, first Mark Hamill loses his Leia and now his Batman. RIP Batman.
No. I didn't know that yet. He was such a decent guy to fans too
8:36 - one of my favorite moments in the film. The delivery is hilariously brilliant.
To each and every Veteran, Thank you for your service! You are appreciated!
You`re thanking them for occupying other countries?
The US killed millions and millions of civilians in other countries far away from home, only to steal their oil, gas, and other natural riches, under the pretense of fighting evil
You seem to know very little about the atrocities your soldiers have been committing in countries that can`t defend themselves.
I'm not a veteran but I'll accept your thanks for him… because he's asleep as I type this and he usually don't watch reaction videos and watches CZcams for the news… He served in a different area of Vietnam during the war… he served from 1969 to 1972 in the 25th infantry in the US Army during the Agent Orange fiasco!!
Robin Williams was well known for his ad libing. On of his animated movies needed like 14 minutes of dialog. He sat in the recording booth all day ad libing, like 12 hours.
The man was a force of nature, simply incredible.
A late friend of mine served several tours in Vietnam. Once in awhile he would talk about it and the stories were disturbing. He said the things that helped him thru it all was American music, warm beer, an occasional letter from home and Opium to dull the horror.
I love this movie. My Uncle who was in Vietnam remembers this guy and loves him. I grew up with many refugees from Vietnam, Cambodia and the nightmare that happened there, and Laos. They are very dear people and hearing their stories is heartbreaking. Listening to my uncle reservedly speak of his also heartbreaking.
I grew up during the Vietnam War. It was the first televised war and the last conflict that allowed reporters to provide eyewitness reports from battle. This was the war that pulled down the illusion of war being noble; it provided film footage and iconic photography of the true carnage and insanity of war. We claimed to be there to keep the Vietnamese safe from communism, but we also blew up their villages and napalmed the inhabitants. Boys barely 18 years old were sent from America and ordered to shoot every man, woman, and child in some villages. In an agrarian culture, we dropped toxic defoliants on jungle and farms alike. Some of it was racial, some cultural, most of it ignorant. Most Vietnamese did not want us there. Our troops faulted the Vietnamese for 'discouraging' the American military by blowing them up and setting traps, but many of them felt invaded by us. What you see happening in Ukraine today is what the Vietnamese were doing then: trying to push us out of their country.
So when you catch sight of the bombs and executions at the edges of this film, that's what that was about; a lot of innocent people together with those fighting back being killed. They won; we finally gave up and left. And strangely enough, they seemed to have forgiven us. Vietnam veterans from the US are welcomed there as friends.
Eyewitness reporting showing the truth.....
Something now very hard to find, even with the WWW Net, much is censored or shadow banned or not on searches....
Which explains your misconception about the Ukraine:
And it's our fault, again.
The Maidan was US instigated, the political leadership US run, the militia's formed.... OK homegrown in West Ukraine and managed by Umr Jewish oligarchs.
But the pushing out? That would be the native East Ukrainians desperately trying since 2014. The locals for hundreds of years, that were being slaughtered by those legit neoNazi militias- Bandarites who flat believe THEY are white and slavs, ethnic Russians are NOT, and anyone not them are not human- and killing them at will is just fine...
8 long years later, and many bait and switch madly corrupt political players later, the loudly planned formal invasion across the Donbass and into Russia itself to seize Crimea (that voted repeatedly to return to independence and Russia's orbit, verified by intl observers as fair and legit) is bragged on everywhere.
By the NATO AND US TRAINED MILITIAS AND UKR MILITARY straight ACROSS East Ukraine where they declare they will kill the remaining residents entirely and reclaim it for West Ukrainians too.
So Russia- repeatedly trying to get the Minsk Accords signed enforced and said plans stopped- gives one last warning they.are.finally.going to help protect the ethnic Russians there.
The Donbass population that OVERWHELMINGLY wanted just that, and had been begging for protection for 8 years.
But all you heard was our MSM and pols telling you that it was RUSSIA massing troops to invade a country that hated them...
That is, unless.you were paying attention to our media in the 10s when plenty of news about the militias and Nazis in Ukraine were published.... 💁
Much of Robin William's broadcast's were improvised, even though the movie is loosely based on the real life Adrian Cronauer, who started his radio shows "GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!" while doing his show there. He worked on Bob Dole'S campaign in 1996 & Bush's reelection campaign in 2004. He passed in 2018 at 79. This was such a good movie. No one could have made this movie this good if it wasn't for Robin.
You have to be careful when drinking beverages while watching Robin Williams. You almost sprayed the screen during that "life flash before my eyes" scene.
You are correct about the Twins in Terminator 2. when the T1000 morphs to look like him, its actually both twins in the shot so they didnt have to do any special effect for it.
Loved how much you enjoyed this. Robin was a comic genius
It was GREAT!
2:49 I caught one of your first videos about a month back, and you were explaining why you'd missed so many popular movies, because you read and enjoyed books. It was so nice when the radio DJ at the start of the film is talking about a service to mail out books and you thought that was a nice service. I think most people blow by that as just being the contrast to what Robin comes in and does, it's meant to show how tame and slow the current radio is, but it really highlighted your love of books and I thought it was a nice moment. Keep being you man, I'm loving your laughter and reactions to stuff :)
The best part of this movie is most radio broadcasts are improvised and just robin Williams having fun making gold
Forrest Whitaker is always great! His comedic timing is very sharp and he makes corpsing (laughing during a scene) part of his performance.
For something completely different with him - Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai
"Goooooooood morning Vietnam! It's 0600 hours. What does the "O" stand for? O my God, it's early! Speaking of early, let's hear it for that Marty Lee Drywitz. Silky smooth sounds, making me sound like Peggy Lee..."
Fun Fact: Robin Williams ad-libbed all of Adrian Cronauer's broadcasts.
Location Location Fact: The film was mostly shot in Bangkok, Thailand, and at the time, several hundred male students from the International (American) School of Bangkok (ISB) were recruited as extras to perform in the multitude of shots showing American GI's throughout the film. As a courtesy, Robin Williams actually came to ISB and put on a stand up routine for all students in the 10th grade and above.
Hollywood Hacks Fact: Robin Williams's portrayal of Adrian Cronauer has led to confusion as to the beliefs of the real Cronauer. Cronauer has said that the film is about 45 percent accurate, according to a biography on Robin Williams. Cronauer has said that the film misrepresented him to make him seem anti-war, when he was "anti-stupidity" in his own words. In fact, Cronauer - who later became a lawyer, and died in 2018 - became an active Republican and was a vice-chairman of the 2004 Bush-Cheney re-election campaign. Furthermore, Cronauer has also said that if he'd done half the things Williams did in the film, he would've been court-martialed and sent to Fort Leavenworth. This is why you should take any Hollywood movie about the Vietnam War with a lethal level of salt.
Don and Dan Stanton, the twins from this movie both played on Terminator 2. One played the security guard and the other played the Terminator that took his form.
So sad He is not with us anymore🕊🤍… He’s so good in everything! It’s crazy thinking back to my days of Morke & Mindy!✌🏻☀️
GOOOOOD MORNING VIETNAM!
The character that Robin Williams plays is a real person but parts of the movie were fictionalized, but everything you see happened.
It's all about free speech, enjoying, being human and fight against propaganda that have no sense and that wheight so highly during war times.
A preach for Peace, tolerance, dialogue, respect of different cultures, etc....
From a precise USA history
Robin Williams is an amazing actor and what about his role's choice!! RIP
You don't have free speech in the military.
Hey there, James! Great choice today!
Wait... the first time you ever saw "War Comedy"? Did you never watch M*A*S*H*? It was on one of the three channels back in the day.
Anyway.... you're going to love this one, I think. Robin Williams at his comedic best.
14:18 - I was waiting for you to spot that. Yes. One was the security guard, the other was the Terminator disguised as him. They actually used TWO sets of twins in that movie.
Prologue... BTW- Forrest's last name is pronounced "Whih-teh-ker". He also played Saw Guerrera in Star Wars: Rogue One.
No, I never say Mash sorry.
MASH is television genius.
The man is a legend in Improv
I did not expect to see Idi Amin in Vietnam. That boy is a long way from home.
Classic improv by Robin Williams.
Man, I miss Robin Williams. He did some pretty good work with this one.
The twins were actually both in Terminator 2. That scene where the T-1000 turns into the security guard featured both of them. Saved a little special effects money that way.
when trihn turns him down tje first time she says
“i not think it would be correct of way… please” she was declining him politely
If I heard correctly, most of his on air spiel was ad libbed. If you've never seen his stand up routine, I'd suggest you watch "Robin Williams: Live at the Met". He left a legacy of so many great movies, you've got lots to choose from.
Adrian Cronauer was a real individual. In the film ‘Platoon’ you can hear ‘Goooooood Morning, Vietnam!’ coming from a tent in one scene.
As always- great ride-along, watching a flick w you! Thank You!
Stay safe & love much💖
Yes.. those twins were in T2.
The twins played together as security guard AND disguised T-1000.
I was just gonna say that.
Yeah I got it right!
@@AwesomeUSMovies Ehmm, half right? As I said both twins were on screen.
BTW, have you seen Gremlins 2?
If you want to hear the REAL Adrian Cronauer, he has a running offscreen cameo as the UN Special Forces radio DJ in the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme "Street Fighter". ("Goooood morning, Shadaloo!")
1. Sgt. Major Dickerson: [Pointing to his rank insignia] What does three up and three down mean to you, airman?
Adrian Cronauer: End of an inning?= Beer exiting nose!
2. Don't knock Guam. I was there for a total of 7 1/2 years and it was great. I also did 3 1/2 years on Hawaii and to be completely honest it was 3 years 5 months too long. It SUCKED.
3. I got to meet Robin in 1983 in Cannes France. A couple of us were waiting for a ride to our "liberty boat" and on the Promenade, The scene where he's talking to the troopies was very reminiscent to how things went down except there were only 2 of us. He wasn't "on". He was just being himself (as far as I could tell).
4. Filmed entirely in Thailand.
5. GOOF: Enlisted men are not called Sir. Garlick keeps calling him sir.
6. Robin Williams suggestion: "Popeye"
you are absolutely right....Don Stanton did play the security guard in T2 (along with his twin brother Dan Stanton).
The movie is loosely based on the real life Andrian Cronauer though he said that the way he wasportrayed in the movie was over the top.
Foresst Whitaker first appeared in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (a teen comedy) but also played Idi Amin in the Last King of Scotland. He has a prominent condition known as ptosis or droopy eye.
Glad I got that one right
That musical on the beach was the movie "Beach Blanket Bingo".
You calling him Forrest White-Acre cracked me up!! lol
Thanks
Bruno Kirby was always one of my favorite actors. He often played the part of supporting actor in great films like "The Godfather part 2", "When Harry met Sally", "City Slickers" and many more. He died far to young.
Yes, one of those twins was the security guard in Terminator 2. And the other one was the T1000 in that scene.
Yeah got that one right
Fun fact, the twins are _both_ the security guard in Terminator 2. The scene used the twin as the Terminator as well
I said that in my reaction.
Great movie. LOVED Robin! 💔 And Forrest Whitaker has been a fav of mine forever. Thx for your reaction.
My pleasure!!
I was cracking up with ya mate😂
Yes, one of the twins was the security guard in Terminator 2, and the other twin was the T1000 *as* the security guard in Terminator 2. Just like Linda Hamilton played Sarah Connor and Linda Hamilton's twin sister played her duplicate.
You have either watched Gomer Pyle, USMC before, or at least Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show, right?
Forest Whitaker is also known for his debut role as the football player in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), Platoon (1986), Charlie Parker in Clint Eastwood's Bird (1988), The Crying Game (1992), Phenomenon (1996) with John Travolta, The Great Debaters (2007), Panic Room (2002) with Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) as Saw Gerrera, Black Panther (2018) as Zuri, and as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland (2006).
Bruno Kirby is one of Billy Crystal's (When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride) best friends, along with Daniel Stern (Home Alone, Home Alone 2, The Wonder Years), in City Slickers (1991), starring Jack Palance.
YEESSS ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏... One of my dad's favs .... Yep he was in 'nam
He passed away in 2018 in Troutville VA....near Roanoke, VA.
You've seen Forest Whitaker before, too. He played Saw Gerrerra in Star Wars: Rogue One. Both of the red head officers censoring the news were in Terminator 2. One played the security guard, the other played the T1000 taking on the form of the security guard. Despite playing the painfully unfunny lieutenant in this movie, the actor Bruno Kirby was an hilariously funny comic actor. (You could check him out in moives like City Slickers and When Harry Met Sally). For some truely great performances by Robin Williams, you must see Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, and The Fisher King.
Oh yeah thanks for that
The director told Robin Williams for all the DJ scenes, "We start here, and I need you to finish here." and let Robin Williams run with it. Everything he said as a DJ was completely Robin Williams ad lib.
Amazing
Robin Williams was/is a national treasure.🥲
Such a Great Classic Movie!! Patch Adams, Jumanji and Ms. Doubt Fire with Robin Williams would be a few more to check out too:)
He would love Mrs. Doubtfire.
watching you laugh so much at this reminds me of my first time seeing this when I was a kid. even when I was a kid, I "got" a lot of the jokes, especially the Gomer Pyle one... Surprise Surprise Surprise😜
James! Thank you so much for what YOU do! Your reactions are great fun for us. Also, I feel like your Patreon group is a good one, I agree with practically all their picks
Wow, thank you!
"I knew in my heart🖤 that I am funny"
National Geographic made a really good documentary about the Vietnam War, interviewing people from both sides, after the war, and offering little commentary. Officers from the NVA were bragging that the heroes of the NVA were over the age of 50 and under 10. These were the people they forced into helping them, and the people American soldiers were demonized for killing.
US Army Col David Hackworth (Retired) visited Vietnam after the end of the war and asked people why they didn't fight communism. The most common reply was "We didn't understand that we needed to. You were foreigners, so we were not ready to band with you against our countrymen, and by the time we figured out what communism really was, it was too late; the war was already over."
People are recommending must see movies for you to watch. I'm loving your journey
Thanks
Yes, one of the twin guys played the security guard in Terminator 2. The other one played the liquid metal Terminator while he was impersonating the security guard.
Yeah I got it right!
@@AwesomeUSMovies that was an amazing catch!
The guys @5:05 are the same ones who played the mental hospital security guard and T-1000 shapeshifted into looking like him, in Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
Yeah I got that one right
I love this movie, I remember always watching it with my dad and we quote it to this day. 😊
(14:16) Yes and not only that but the other twin played The Terminator for the scene where they were looking side by side.😃
Yeah I got it right
Good call on the T2 security guard catch.
WOW, two out of two
This was based on a true story. I love this movie and the soundtrack.
Great movie, love Robin
If I'm not mistaken, I believe the red-headed twins were also in Gremlins 2
Another war movie that Robin Williams was in was "Jakob the Liar". I highly recommend that movie as well.
Not so fun fact: The troops that he performs live for in the jeep were based on a real battalion. Sadly, in real life, they were being sent to a battle where they were all killed. I don't think the movie states that explicitly, but knowing that makes that scene kind of a sobering moment despite all the jokes, because you know that the real guys all died shortly after, especially with Robin Williams' jokes about them being scared. It's one of those things that I appreciate in this movie. It's a comedy, but it's also not afraid to be realistic about war and the consequences of it. It's not fun and games. Even Robin Williams' final interaction with Fun Duck To is incredible because like most soldiers, they thought they were coming in to Vietnam as liberators, which was absolutely not the case. To the Vietnamese, America was the enemy. They were just fine without them, but everyone was afraid of communism and the Domino Theory that said that if one country went communist, the whole world would go that way. Obviously, that was proven completely false. People are driven by greed and fear. A political or economic system based on that won't last forever, but it will last longer than a society based on a communist ethic. The system was doomed to fail on its own because there's no money in it. Eventually, people get tired of fascism and corporations stealing all the money too, but it just takes longer because if you have all the money, you control everything, including the government, the financial system, the media and information everyone gets to consume. One of the reasons the Vietnam War finally ended was because news anchors like Walter Cronkite reported on it and sent video back and people were rightly horrified.
My father served in Vietnam(not this area that's portrayed in this movie) served in the US Army in the 25th infantry between 1969 to 1972 during the Agent Orange fiasco and I don't believe we should have been there because Korean war was cease fire by treaty and not legit ended!! btw my father's father served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean war, So… I know these things even though I never joined the military because I was born with my umbilical cord wrapped around my neck and I have epileptic seizures…
Both of the twins were the security guard in Terminator 2. They used one for the security guard and one for the Terminator when he was copied
Yeah I got that one right
For one of the references you didn't understand Gomer Pyle is played by Jim Nabors. He played Gomer Pyle on the Andy Griffith show. then he did a spin off of that character called Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. He played a marine private who drove his sergeant crazy. Imagine a country bumpkin (no offense) trying to fit in to the military. One of his catch phrases was "Surprise, surprise, surprise" so that's why you missed it if you've never seen that sitcom.
Thanks for this!
Lois Armstrong scene is a very beautiful and sad at the same time.
I liked the joke hey Gomer are you there in Vietnam? I didn't know who Gomer was until I started watching the Andy Griffith show.
Haven't seen it sorry
@@AwesomeUSMovies"The Andy Griffith Show" was the same show that Gomer Pile AND Ron Howard started their acting careers… Ron Howard went on to "Happy Days" as Ritchie Cunningham and now he's a famous director…
The twins are both in T2. 😉
As were the Hamilton twins.
The two twins were the security guard in Terminator 2.
EDIT: It was both of them, one played the T-1000 copying the other one.
Yeah I got it right!
Nguyen is pronounced Nuyinn or Nwin; like Schwinn.
edit: Thanh is likely pronounced tang. Being that I'm Mandarin-speaking and not fluent in Vietnamese, I could be off. Sorry.
Both twins were in Terminator when the one killed the other.
If this is first ever war comedy then check out In the army now with Pauly shore. Hot shots, Hot shots part 2, oh and Stripes with Bill Murray
I already reacted to Stripes. Go check it out!

@@AwesomeUSMovies ok gonna check it out next. But isn't that a war comedy?
Perhaps you know Forest Whitaker (pronounced Witaker) as Saw from Rogue One. He's won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a British Academy Film Award, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.
OH YEAH, it looked a little familiar but I couldn't place him. Thanks
I don't remember if you watched Arrival yet (you need to if you haven't) but he was also in that. He won an Oscar playing Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland. He was also critically acclaimed starring in The Butler.
Two Robin Williams movies to watch - Moscow On The Hudson and The Dead Poets Society. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
my dad loved this movie
Solid movie!
You know Forrest Whitaker from Rogue One where he plays Saw Gerrera. The somewhat fatherly character with the amputated leg.
Oh yeah, he looked familiar but I couldn't place him.
@@AwesomeUSMovies He is very big. He won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2006. He has been in a lot of stuff.
By the time I turned 13, I could recite this entire movie from memory. I watched it every day. ❤️
No, you couldn't. You're lying.

Nope. I watched it at least once every single day. My father got so tired of hearing it he forbid me to watch it for a month.

You mentioned briefly that you don't know much about Vietnam and the War , so go and get some background information and watch some Vietnamwar Movies .
I have been waiting for him to do this movie. He is going to absolutely love Robin Williams when he's off the leash. Mrs. Doubtfire was nothing compared to this movie.
I did love it!
I know people use patreon for movie suggestions but you really should see Robin Williams version of Popeye.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
It's amazing what we will do for CZcams. People who watch my janky videos have no idea that I'm up at 3:00 in the morning making them.
For some early Williams, the world according to Garp...

The twins were both in Terminator 2. You remember when one killed the other?
Nice
yup… the censors played the security guard and his T1000 double in T2
Yeah, I got one right!
The politics of the American War of Aggression (Vietnam War) is pretty straight forward. America invaded Vietnam, following several other countries, and bombed the Vietnamese into the stone age, because we didn't feel that a country should be able to select their own form of government. The US has not much changed since then. Meanwhile, since Vietnam beat the US military and made them turn tail and run, Vietnam is slowly recovering from the disastrous war that killed a massive number of their people, devastated their ecosystem with toxic chemicals, and covered the country in landmines, all while the US continues to demand that Vietnam payback the cost of the war to the US and attempt to dictate their economic system and international trade practices, via the WTO and IMF. Vietnam demonstrates how a countries government can be run for the good of its people, not for the profit of its corporations and rich. One only needs to look at how well Vietnam did in combating Covid, compared to its "first world" adversaries. The difference is staggering and makes it plain how badly the US government failed the american people.
Coming to America
Movie recommendation identity theft and fried green tomatoes
Another "WarComedy" Air America staring Mel Gibson & Robert Downey Jr. (1990)
The red twins were the best.
I'm not an expert but I think Nguyen is "New Yen". Just a silent g.
i doubt i'm the only one to say this but... robin williams was nomiated for an oscar; for this film
