- If you're subscribed to my channel, you know that I've been working on the ESP32Berry project for a while.
The heart of this project is the physical keyboard. We can use the Virtual keyboard to get input from the user, but this is more inconvenient than we thought. In particular, many inputs are not possible.
I personally like using a physical keyboard. Maybe this is why I used Blackberry a long time ago. I think there is something special about a physical keyboard.
Anyway, the ESP32Berry project I worked on before will be recreated based on T-Deck. Would you like to join me on my journey? It's gonna be fun.

I'm currently working on this device, making a terminal like linux terminal currently support wifi scan and connect, Bluetooth scan , matrix animation (your lib) , battery indicator, network devices ping scan , port scanner with ping scan , i didn't upload the code yet but it will be uploaded in the future
this gonna be amazing 😍
I knew you will make this video!~ Nice!
Good to hear from you, not the AI voice. ^_^
I dont know why but kinda miss your own voice lol. Thanks for sharing, cool project!
Yeah I don't like the computer generated voice
Me 3
Thanks! Can you show us how to use this T-deck with Meshtastic software to create a handheld device for sending and receiving send messages offgrid?
Unfortunately, Meshtastic doesn't support T-Deck yet. meshtastic.org/docs/supported-hardware
Lilygo T-Deck Meshtastic!

@@ThatProject Meshtastic does support it now. Is there a way to get in on your ESP32Berry OS, alongside the other apps?
@@makanimike I tested it a few weeks ago. Check this out. czcams.com/video/wmGBAGr9dNA/video.html
Well, it seems impossible to combine ESP32Berry and Meshtastic. However, we can try to modify the interface for Meshtastic. Let's see how it goes.
You know what i noticed? There is no portable embedded keyboards in “HP Jornada” form factor. Price to actually make it will be inadequate, because factory needs to create separate production line for it, which costs 5-10 k minimum. Standard mechanical switches are too big for such projects. Recently one of independent devs from China offered i386 retro handheld computer to control old industrial hardware, i really like monolithic form factor and keyboard.
Interesting! I love that too.
Keyboard with arrow keys, Yes!
Hmmm this could be a cool base to make a mini wrist computer 👀
for real?
@@ThatProject I would think so
3D design a wrist mount/shell, make room for a decent size battery, and a raspberry pi zero (or a similar single board computer)
I know sometime in the next couple of weeks try to get my hands on that keyboard and then see what I can do from there
@@jasonhedtke659 That's interesting. Please update me as the project progresses.
@@ThatProject will do 👍
I know it's unlikely, but is there any chance at all that you could get something like rtl_power (kmkeen) working on an ESP32? With a USB RTL-SDR dongle.
There is Teensy 4 SDR. Even ESP32 S3 has USB, but the USB is slow. And ESP32 S3 is not fast enough for FFT.
@@TT-it9ggthanks for the reply!
A quick Google for that model suggests you can get about 4.5Mbps on the USB.
How much bandwidth is required for something like rtl_power which only rapidly hops between frequencies to measure db levels.
(Okay it's a bit more complicated than that, but that's the general overview).
Or do you mean the esp32 doesn't have enough computing power for the fft Algo?
@@GadgetAddict if 1 sample takes 8-bit, 10MSPS=80Mbps.
I like you new project and I want to build something similar! Please let me know how to run Linux on t-deck and to display terminal on the screen? 🙏
Thanks. If you google it, it looks like Linux can be used on the ESP32, but this is difficult to use in practice. If you must use Linux, I recommend using SBC.
Is there a specific reason for using st7789 display, or was it better than using the ili9341, i was wondering if i can use it interchangeably if there weren't issues, because i got a 2.8 inch ili9341 display
I want one lol
Is this board worth buying? How good is the documentation? 🤔
😢Not really. This is all they share. github.com/Xinyuan-LilyGO/T-Deck
would be nice to implement SMTP email client
do esp32 speech recognition tutorial please i am begging you
It is recommended to project with ESP32-S3. I don't plan any more projects with ESP32. Thank you for understanding.
@@ThatProject why are you saying like that?
@@sltechgalaxy1677 Lots of reasons. Also, it says, ESP32-S3 is recommended to run speech commands recognition, which supports AI instructions and high-speed octal SPI PSRAM. The Latest models will be deployed on ESP32-S3 first.
@@ThatProject thanks my bro
any updates about esp32-p4? it has some hardware gfx accelerator. It would be awesome if you could implement esp32-p4 instead of s3.
Not yet. P4 will be a game-changer. But one thing I don't like is it doesn't have a built-in WiFi module. Nevertheless, it's gonna be awesome.
Wonder if you could get Meshtastic to work on this?
Meshtastic doesn't officially support T-Deck yet, but I think it will be added soon.
It is available currently. Some kinks still need to be worked out but basic functionality is there.@@ThatProject
Can it play psp games?
lol, not at all.
Does It make phone calls ?😁
Haha this one doesn't have a cellular modem.
Blackberry keypad is a MUCH better solution.
Can you please make a tutorial how to make a quadcopter drone with cam controlled and viewed by 4g? Thx in advance.
That's not my area of expertise. Haha
Following, really interesting
