    Great diagnostic video series Brandon. Last week i received your book A Streamlined Approach to Diagnostic Dilemmas from Aeswave. I enjoy it very much by reading. Keep up the good work 👍

    10:14 Smart man with a 2006. First thing I noticed was Brandon has a 2006 Silverado - the very last year GM made actual pickups, without the self-destructive AFM engines introduced on the GMT900 platform. As this is a FLEX would like to see its ethanol calculation go bonkers one day, and fix it, if that year is prone to that issue. Because not everyone is convinced a misfire / rough running engine can be fixed with a scan tool without replacing any parts.

      It’s all about determining the air properly, so the right amount of fuel is delivered.
      If an alcohol miscalculation occurs, a poor air/fuel ratio will exist under all operating conditions, and fuel trim will compensate under all (closed-loop) operating conditions.
      If the fuel trim can maintain fuel control, no driveability symptoms will be experienced

    Bosch scan tool nice👍
    You wouldn't want to tap on the sensor and look for dropouts 😅

      Thank you, you can certainly do that if the fault is present (as it was in this video), and the circuits have integrity, it isn't necessary to monitor any further.

    These series are so good, sticking back to basics. Is it safe to test live airbag circuits?

    • @brandonsteckler3417
      @brandonsteckler3417 Před 5 měsíci

      GREAT Question and I'm glad you brought that up. NEVER deviate away from the prescribed test method found in service/repair information. The voltage output from test tools (like a DVOM) "can" cause an inflator to deploy, causing significant damage to the vehicle and potential injury to those nearby.

    Thank you Brandon for this episode of mastering diagnostics, you are doing a great job!
    One question/observation on circuit design: around 18:10, in case of the collision sensor being triggered wouldn't this be detected by voltage being pulled up on the ground leg of the circuit instead of reference voltage being pulled low on the positive leg, due to the internal resistor after the measuring point (ground side) within the control module?

    • @brandonsteckler3417
      @brandonsteckler3417 Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi there,
      This is indeed a pull-down circuit. The ref-voltage is manipulated low by the triggered crash sensor

    • @bobcombs7138
      @bobcombs7138 Před 6 měsíci

      I'm wondering, if that circuit gets shorted to ground, could it activate the deployment of the airbags? What precautions should be taken when testing this circuit?
      I'm really liking this series and finding your techniques very informative! Thank you for all your videos Brandon!

    Hey Brandon this is Aaron we met at the ASE conference.
    I am in need of a new scan tool because my snap-on modus ultra is becoming outdated.
    I have looked at snap-on Triton d10, matco Maximus 3.0, and all tell Max's assist ultra EV Ms909 Ms919. I am I am leaning towards alltel and snap-on, however, the only reason I am leaning towards snap-on is because I have used and am familiar with using their tool.
    I value your input on helping me determine my next scan tool/scope.

      Stay away from Snap On.i can tell you 1st hand they're overpriced & leave you flat!

    • @MotorAgeMagazine
      @MotorAgeMagazine  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I happen to love Snap-on devices for their superior graphing capability. However, other tools provide coverage that Snap-on doesn't. The point is, EVERY tool has its limitations. Get your hands on a few and see what they can do. Consider which vehicles you see most and go from there.
