I like how this was 50% "25 is when you brain develops completely so that works"
And then the other half is like "i got my tattoo when i was 6"
And I was like I'm turning 20 I'm getting old I need to get tats asap guess I have a lot of time to think about it
@@shirish_yt 20 is only just an adult and biologically your brain isn't fully functional yet. Take your time and pick something you love because it's there forever (barring laser and cover-ups). There's no rush, it's not like tattoos or your skin is going to disappear.
I got mine at 15
You still change a lot after 25 tho so you can definitely make enough stupid mistakes after that
Im 19 got a tat that says "Lyfe Base" in nice font on my forearm n a " $ " near my under elbow . On Same arm. .. this whole video was takin digs at me but i got my 2 tattoos at 19💀 im 19 rn btw . I went to beauty school with this girl who was almost 30 and covered in small random tattoos and I asked her one day which one was her favorite. She pointed to a pizza slice on her arm and when I asked why that one she said “when am I ever not gonna like pizza?” And I think about that interaction everyday.

I'm 30 and my first tattoos that I got when I was 18 still look good. I guess it comes down to your skin condition, how well you take care of it and how good your tattoo artist is. :)
@Beef Feet I guess they mean the older you are, you are able to enjoy a tattoo you actually like longer vs getting something dumb and hating it 4 years later then having to live with it unless you get laser. Plus as a teen your body is still growing so it’s a possibility it’ll stretch or get messed up in other ways not too long after you get it but you definitely gave a point too
My first tattoo was at 16, I’m 25.. they look fine lol.

I feel like you should legally be able to get it at 18, but if your artist doesn’t think it’s a good idea they don’t have to tattoo it.
If the tattoo artist genuinely cares about what they’re putting on peoples body they will turn you away but the people who are in it for money will take the cash every time
Trueeee
They already don’t have to do it if they feel it’s a bad idea.
They….. don’t have to already…
I honestly feel like regret is a personal thing so why jump into peoples free will on a thing that isn’t even dangerous. The worst thing is that you don’t like it and even then you can get it removed. Not like drinking or smoking. Those things need the age raised because you cannot just remove a bad thing you did while driving drunk. Death is a one way thing
I kind of agree with the “wait til 25 because your brain will be fully developed”
But at 18, most people are choosing career they want to have and college they want to go to and such.
Why do people shame people for a harmless tattoo choice when they’re “too young” but then kids have to decide what path in life they want to take at 18?
THANK YOU
Bruh I'm saying
It’s really not the same you CAN change career paths. It’s usually difficult but it’s not a permanent thing like a tat. Plus a job is different to altering your body aka altering your actual self.
@@april5706 Well you can also join the military at that age and that can fuck you up way more than a tatoo

Do people make bad decisions under the age of 25? Yes, HOWEVER (like one the woman said) 18 year olds are expected to take out a shit ton of student loans or join the military. If they can make choice that big, they can get a damn tattoo.
Yet they still can't drink. 😅

I was thinking the same as these 12 years. But on the other side, I don't know what I will think about myself in 10 years.
Through sociology and neurology we can actually see that maturity isnf fully related to age. In fact, its way more related to psycological factors than biological ones
@J. St adult themes =/= maturity
i think 18 is a good age. but from a professional point of view, 21 is a more logical approach.

Girl was spot on about being able to sign for $500,000 in loans and join the military then you should be able to get a tattoo.
For the same reasons I'd argue one shouldn't be able to join the military or take out ridiculous loans at 18.
@@ceryseira - Right on. I was 17 when I started college, which meant my mother had to legally sign for the loans. Even though it would automatically be transferred to me upon graduation, I had no idea what taking out a loan would entail; I knew nothing about the available payment plans or accruing interest. Still, I'm glad I "only" gathered $25k in loan debt from a private school, as opposed to these poor kids now with six figures of hopelessness following them for their entire lives.
Kids simply don't know what their actions now will do ten years in the future; no one really does. It doesn't help that schools don't really teach fiscal responsibility or critical thinking anymore. Tattoos are no different. What's edgy or popular now will be massive embarrassment later on (tramp stamps, anyone?).
Robert Haskell Frankly, if you gat behind the wheel of a two thousand pound deadly weapon, you should be able to get a tattoo.
Yea, but it would be more logical to say that an 18 year *shouldn't* be able to sign for a 500k loan, or join the military etc. Just because shitty things are allowed, doesn't mean you should make *more* shitty things allowed, you know?
Hey I’m not American, what’s student loans exactly ?
If you can do porn, vote, drive and join the army, you can decide on having a tattoo.

Personal opinion/experience:
The biggest difference between getting a tattoo when you're 18 or 25 isn't as much the thing you're gonna get inked but the quality of the tattoo artist.
exactly but as someone who’s 19, i have only gotten great pieces
This seems true but my question is how do you determine the longevity of an artists work?
Yes especially if you have to pay for the tattoo yourself... If you really want a tattoo save up and wait at least a year or two
@@nicolek9557 Longevity depends as much as the aftercare of the tattoo as it does the artists. If your ink gets a lot of sun, it will fade faster than those who use sunblock and stay out of the sun.
I have a very hard time believing a lot of the photo realism tattoos with very little black outlines will last long term.
I noticed at 18 the first and last question is price, at 25 you're more concerned over the quality than the price tag.
The best tattoo advice I ever got was "Wait 6 months to a year. If you still have that tattoo in your mind than get it so you dont regret it."
Agreed, if you're gonna keep it forever, a year of waiting shouldn't make a difference.
Swear tattoo artists are some of the coolest ppl
for me I wait 3 years and so the ones ive wanted for longer then 3 years imma get once i can

Some peopels just can't make good choices no matter how old they are.
Also, if you can go to war and get killed at 18, you absolutely should be able to get a tattoo.
i mean nobody should be going to war at 18 either lmao
Doesn't sound like an argument for tattoos but against sending people to war who couldn't go to the toilet without asking 4 months ago
Stupid logic. Any one of us could die at any moment regardless of whether or not you signed up to join the military. You are statistically more likely to die in a car accident than you are dying in the military
Yo I’m getting a tattoo soon on my thigh I’m 16 years old it’s gonna be like mediocre size the only thing I’m worried about is me growing and it then looking like shit so my question is, does urs still look fine as if they did not stretch at all?
@@anthonychafey9543 At age of 16 it's possible that you won't grow anymore that much. But of course human body doesn't stay the same all its life. It can stretch out in any point of your life for multiple reasons, maybe you get into body building and don't skip legs day. No matter what, tattoo and skin will age. If you are not ready for that, wait until you are.
What I'm worried that no actually skilled artist will make tattoo for someone who is 16. Hopefully you have found that one and don't go for shitty artist and get shitty tattoo.
Streching hasn't been problem to me, but of course there is faded as tattoos do. One of them got touch-up for that reason couple months ago.

Age is but a number!

It depends on the individual. Some are mature at 18 and others at 30. And a few are never mature enough for tattoos.
Being mature and your brain fully maturing are two different things there are many different types of maturity putting something in your body is a very long term decision and 18 year old does not have the life experience nor the cognitive skills
exactly. it should just be where if the person is over the minimum age, they can do what they want. but if they're under, then there should be a discussion between the person being tattooed, the parent, and the artist potentially doing the tattoo. then that artist could decide whether or not they'll do the work.

I find 25 to be ridiculous for a tattoo age. Even 21 for tattoos and a drinking age is just idiotic to me. You can literally get married and go to war and drive a car all before the age of 18 In the U.S.A. (with parental consent). Three things that can literally effect your life, for the rest of your life, way more than a tattoo, and in some cases end your life in a few moments (war, abusive spouses, a single slippery road car accident, etc.) We literally have people who can carry a gun and go to war who can't toast champagne at their own wedding. I find it ridiculous to think they wouldn't be able to get their child's name or a personal image to remind them of their family tattooed on their body before they ship out overseas.
I teach swim lessons to kids. I had one class that I was teaching where my student (who was 11) had a detailed cross tattoo on his wrist. I asked him about it, and he said it was a religious tradition in his family. He got the tattoo at 6. He was in his home country when he got it which was legal from my understanding. Still shocked by it.
They're really saying 25 as if Genz will survive for that long
I mean I’m only 3 years away from 25
Guys, we get it...maturity varies from person to person, but they have to generalize. Some people are mature enough to drive at 13. Doesn't mean they should drop the age just for them
👏👏👏 I feel like part of this comments section are getting offended by the fact that they brought up the 'ideal age', like they are dismissing the old souls. Well I get it, you are different from your peers, you are mature for your age. But still, facts, the trendy tribe nowadays is filled with young peoples whose mind and interests just change constantly. The maturity is personal and various, but it is fair to provide time to make sure about an decision you are going to carry for the rest of your life.
Well said

I'm not a minor and I'm properly annoyed by some of their comments. Anyone who has an arm totally blacked out is not in the position to tell anyone what they think is a good idea. This was actually really helpful. I'm 19 and a lot of my friends have been getting tattoos lately that don't look all that great. Literally the best one I could find in my area because I wasn’t going to settle for less. I can’t see myself disliking them in the future because they are all nature themed, and how could I ever stop loving nature? It truly depends on the maturity level of someone, what they want, and how much research they put into it. I think 21+ is a good start.
apparently the millisecond after your 25th birthday time freezes and you're stuck in limbo forever. Never knew that.
It’s like that movie with Justin Timberlake
Wdym
is it just me who’s really confused
I know right? Like who knew, wow and there's people in their 30s who are in school going for their masters I guess they have no chance since their brain development just stopped and they'll fail
Donna mali that doesn’t make any sense. The brain development thing you’re talking about? Your brain is still maturing until a certain age, hence why in the U.S. you can’t drink until 21. It’s because they’ve found studies that it affects the way your brain matures. You can still learn and your brain can still grow after it stops maturing but it doesn’t hinder your learning
I like the statement that when you're young you don't have the concept and meaning of forever. When you're 14, even waiting till 18 is sooooo long. Imagine what is forever in that mindset.
8 years old is a tenth of the average life span. 80 years is a meaningless amount of time to live. Get a tattoo you regret because it doesn’t matter.
at 16 I got my first tattoo, I had it planned out for about 1-2 years. My dad passed away and I wanted something nice for him. I will never regret that at all. I think it depends person to person but circumstances aren’t the same for everyone regarding maturity.
Me crying at 25 with the foot long, thick black and shadowed name of my ex tattooed across my lower back I got when I was 17 😭
Oh noooo
Lmao loser
Oh wow. Why didn’t you just get a coverup?
Oh shit
My thought process when İ come up with tattoo ideas is "Would İ rather have that on a t-shirt?" Because it makes me think about the longetivity of that commitment.
My exact thought process. I like so many things that I just buy shirts, or mugs or something of them. I have limited space on my body so my tattoos gotta count.
I like that thought process thats so smart
That's a good way to think about it. My mom is a very spiritual woman and she definitely has a pull to the earth. So I have a vision of a tattoo of like a custom tarot card of The World on my back, make it very earth mothery. I've been planning since I was 16 because my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and I genuinely thought I'd lose her. Like. It's for my mother and it represents her well. I don't understand why it would be different getting it now versus four years ago.
Lol I have a shirt that has the exact same design as my tattoo. I got the tat before I knew the shirt existed.
That probably explains why I have so many goddamn shirts.
Ok I've watched like 20 of these videos, but can someone address why one of them is a puppet??
creepabelle it's his "public character" since most of his body in reality, is covered with burns/scars from burns
@@47sunnygrl how do you know? I can't find any info on him
Monika he says it in one of his interviews and talks about it. I found it on one of these videos, but couldn't for the life of me tell you which one. He is extremely selective on what info he allows out on himself to the public, but he did talk about being severely burned
@@47sunnygrl thank youu
Lizahn Hamman
I couldn’t see any burns on the picture but he did say he was shy plus not a lot of him was showing. He seems like a really good artist.
I was 16 when I got a tattoo of my dads name on left peck cause he passed so I’d say just depends on your maturity
I got my first tattoo at 16, I’m now 18 and I recently got another tattoo. They both mean the world to me, I worked part-time for months to be able to save up for my recent one. I think 18 is fine as long as the person isn’t making a stupid decision about it but tbh everyone’s maturity looks different at different ages.
My first tattoo represents my creative side as well as over coming depression. My second tattoo, doesn’t particularly mean anything but I love wolves a lot. They’re my favourite animal and I absolutely love my tattoos. Both of them.
I think it’s different from person to person.
Did you skin stretch , does it looks ugly now?
@@heavenslife4814 no lol
When I was 16 I begged my parents to sign off for a tattoo and they said “if you really want to wear it forever you can wait until you’re 18” and now at 20 I believe that was the right call. I also agree with the guy who said to wait until you have the right budget for what you want.
I mean I can't say much because I got a couple of not a few little tattoos when I was 16 but I was also mature enough to think ahead and get something that my future self would love. But yes I agree u should wait until ur older until ur able to get great quality tattoos. I did mine my self back then so u should wait.💯🤣🤪🙏🏻🙏🏻
I don’t agree that after you turn 25 you’re trapped as that person. You’re always growing or changing.
Not to sound harsh, but I mean some of these artists might even still be taking "stupid tattoos" if they were not in the field themselves. It is not the age, it varies on experience and the person- like one of them kinda said. I mean when you get in to the field of work you will most likely be working for 20-40+ years, yea of course it might seem that you "no longer change and you are trapped" but it is not the case imo. Like doctors for example, I know a plenty, my family knows plenty. Most of them are experts in their own field- just like these artists are in theirs. But doctors(in general) don't know jackshit about nuclear engineering for e.g. but tattoo artists (in general) don't seem to know biology and human developement that much.
They meant that you stop physically growing and your brain is fully developed by age 25.
Yep I changed a lot at age of 30 than my twenty’s TO THE BETTER
I’m 22 and just got my first tattoo that I was thinking about for a year, love it and I know it’s something that will remind me of who I was when I was in my 20’s I find it crappy they want to judge anyone who wants to get a tattoo, if your only regret is a silly little tattoo later in life then you had a good life. Don’t let this stop you from getting a tattoo you’ve always wanted :)
I’m 22 got my first tattoo at 19 all my tattoos have a story behind them such as my recovery from a horrible part of my life, my fight with my physical health and mental health and for my family
The puppet nailed it, my earliest tattoos are cool but they don’t go with the over all flow of what I am trying to do with my body and style as a whole and these tattoos are cool, but in the way.
I’m the exact same 😭 both of my forearms have very limited space to do anything with now. If I added another they wouldent flow. I don’t regret them but boy do I regret where they are placed 😭
See... I'm 20 now and I got my first tattoos at 18 and I still really love them. I feel like you have to be super careful about what you get, but I've wanted tattoos literally since the first time I saw them and my style has changed 0% since I was 8yo, so I feel like it really depends on the person. Do a ton of research and make sure whatever you get is something that won't look like shit faded (like microtattoos).
@@MW-lc6vg lmao bro it’s only been two years since you got your first one then, you gotta wait five/ten/twenty years before experiencing what they’re talking about I guess, pretty much the same for me as I’ve got my first five years ago but I’m curious to see how I’ll feel about it in ten years
@@MW-lc6vg that isn’t really what I mean. I have a half sleeve on my upper right arm that is traditional Japanese, and it’s great, but my other arm is a full sleeve of traditional tattoo and that is the problem, it isn’t that it is a bad tattoo, it is that I would love that space to do another traditional sleeve. It is thinking less about one tattoo and more about the full final finished product
i think the last guy really had the absolute best way of thinking about it. i’m also of the opinion that dumb tattoos can be waited on but there’s some that you just want commemorated. for example, there’s a tradition in my family that women in the family are represented by hummingbirds, hummingbirds always fly to our windows after women die in our family, and i would love to have that tattooed on me. and i know it’s something i’ll still appreciate when i’m older. i think the tattoos just depend on the circumstance and situation for younger people.
But these ae limits exist because not everyone has morals/others' best interests in mind. It's mentioned more in other videos that new tattoo artists will take anyone that walks in the shop, and that's what we need to protect 13 or 16y/o kids from. (Not that those tattooers are evil or anything, its certainly understandable- they need experience and customers are consenting adults.)
I got really lucky. I was tattooed at 13 or 14 and my artist is my uncle. We worked and talked over placement, design, long term, etc. I am 20 now, and I dont regret anything. All my tattoos can be covered and I have 0 tattoos with words. I have a Phoenix (watercolor looking), a semi colon butterfly (semicolon: your story is never over. Butterfly: matching tattoo with my mom who loves butterflies.), a treble clef (I play many instruments and have since I was 7), a skull (covers my self harm scars and reminds me what could've happened if I hadn't sought help), and an alien outline (another uncle of mine was in his early stages of tattooing and needed a canvas). All these tattoos were YEARS of thought and work. Not every young person is a complete idiot. Honestly everyone has a least favorite tattoo but if you genuinely hate something on your body take a break from making body altering decisions. You wear these for life! Don't take it lightly. Choose a good artist, a good atmosphere, a good time in your life, and a good mindset. One bad day can leave you with a shit tattoo. Be smart. Remember that the janky tattoo shop in the middle of town, with the stuck up artist who charges a shit ton, (but consistently treats clients terribly), and gives horrible work, isn't it sis. Don't just find anyone because you want a tattoo so bad. 👌 also in my opinion it's good to stick to one artist. Although it's fun to see different styles, getting tattooed by different people can be nerve racking. Especially new artists.

I wanted tattoos from when I was like 14 onwards, and started keeping a list. I ended up getting my first tat at 19, and im pretty sure only two of the ideas on that list would still be on a list today. I ended up getting one of them as my first and the other as my second, and have no plans to get any of the other ideas I had, because I realised that, even tho they expressed things that were important to me, there were other ways to show that without permanently inking myself, and way more important ways to use my "skin real estate" for lack of a better phrase. I'm 21 and have 3 tats now, with plans to get several more, and all of the ones I have gotten so far are ideas I planned out and wanted for at least 2 years prior to getting the tat. it doesn't mean I'll never regret them, but it means that, at least for now, each tattoo is the final stage in a very long process for me.
I got a Pac-Man tattoo when I was 17

I really liked Robbie's answer. I think consultation is important for tattoos. I got my 1st tattoo at 18 but its small & on my hip. My 2nd at 19 was visible & bold on my inner forearm. The artist did talk to me about it & make sure I really wanted it before he did it. Back then tattoos weren't as commonplace as they are now (early 2000's). I've had multiple jobs I had to cover it for, even recently. I'm in my 30's now & still love mine but will add on to them eventually. Definitely sit on your idea a while & make sure your mind doesn't change.

Many very good points in this video said by professional tattoos artist.

Excellent discussion on this video!!
I refuse to get tattoos until I can fully afford to get nice tattoo! Sure I can hop over to any tattoo shop and get small little tattoos but no way! I need all the space on my body for good ink!
Good decision!👍😉
My only advise, go to lots of shops with what you want, and when you pick, trust your artist. They know what they're doing and letting them design something is more special than a print out :)
If you have sensitive skin like I do, I'd also get allergy tested with the tattoo ink the artist plans to use before actually getting it tattooed. I'm allergic to a lot of skin/hygiene products and can only use one brand of toothpaste because some chemical in all the others makes my gums bleed and burn a lot. It's just a good thing to test before injecting it into your body.
@@shriekinggoblin3021 damn, that's crazy, Sorry to hear that! Do you have any tattoos?

i would rather have a tattoo that meant something to me at 16 than have to wait until i’m 30 to express myself through tattoos
I would rather wait till I’m 30 to have an awesome meaningful tattoo ESPECIALLY after actually experiencing adulthood because for the most part you do change and grow. Then a tattoo at 16 when your hormonal, undeveloped and don’t have a full grasp of who you are.
So what happens if your 30 and your tattoo you got at 16 means nothing to you anymore? I was 21 when I got my first tattoo if I tattooed the nonsense that I thought of at 16 I would regret them
I'm 16 and I'm looking at getting a tattoo. I read this book last year that through some snowballing effect has completely changed my life. This book means so much to me and has opened up a gateway for me to understand that I wasn't okay and needed help. This book and the people I met through it has been helping me get through some serious serious family shit. I'm talking to multiple family members who are heavily tattooed and even a couple of their buddies who are tattoo artists. I'm not planning on anything big, something on the smaller side that I can look at and know that something as simple as a book a picked up because I was bored can help me so heavily. I completely understand why people won't do anything so permanent on somebody so young and I respect that, but I'm going to do this right and I don't want to have to wait for something I know will be meaningful to me for a really long time.
Edit: the book is called The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by MacKenzie Lee. I obviously highly recommend
Old comment but still wanted to respond. I'm 17 and got three tattoos and i am absolutely happy with it. They all have a special meaning and i don't think this meaning will just go away when you are 30. there was a reason to get the tattoo in first place. I got a pair of butterflies to symbolize hope and new beginnings (which is also symbollicaly linked with my mental health yk), I got an album cover of lil peep tatted (a dove with the words "CryBaby") and an album cover of another artist which is simply a black rose. Maybe in a couple of years I won't listen to those artists much anymore but in the end the tattoos still look good and it reminds me of some special times. I think getting tattoos from 16 on is a great thing. And I'll definitely get more tattoos by the end of the year. So I fully agree with you
@@lisama3446 sorry but no matter how much you feel in the moment right now things can change in a day so you really don’t know how you’re gonna feel when you’re 30. If you get simple tattoos that can probably be fine but teens LOVE to act like they are so sure but ALL adults were teens at some point and most will agree you THINK you know what you want but there is reason adults are dismissive with teens because we all for the most part know that what we thought as teens is not at all the case when you’re an adult.
Waited till I was 30 happy I waited and found a shop I love everyone that works at. And my ideas from doing more art have become less complicated and more symmetrical and sensible together.
This was a great discussion. I hope if you have a kid that wants a tat you make them watch this first.
Idk why people take tattoos so seriously, for me it’s an art form and a way to express myself. Just me ig
Tabby Bladen same here. it's just an art work on your body, why giving it such big deal
In the future im going to get tattooed a lot and im giving myself a while to make sure i want what i get but if i were to get tattoos that mean something and didn't care about the art that makes me a bad person but if i care about the art im naive (if im like 17-18-19-20) the tattoo community is full of wonderful people and artists and yet there are still some people who are very traditional and want everything to have meaning and i guess thats fine but if i want tattoos for the art it would be nice to get it without being judged by someone else with tattoos.
because people sometimes get the most stupidest tattoos and ruin it for others
@@stef5998 How does it ruin it for others?
