Not a death wish, just willing to lay down their lives for those they love and/or something greater than themselves. True heroism.
Something, most men today just wouldn't be willing to do.
@@wrathfulspectre2882because we now know we just fighting for elites so yea
Just become an elite and then people will fight for you too
@@dizgroontledForget the so-called elites, which are better referred to as parasites. My point is that most modern men in my observations wouldn't fight and die for their own families. Nope. They would rather just go along with any tyranny is inflicted upon them, keep their heads-down, stick their collective heads in the sand and hope it all goes away. Even worse, many men will in fact turn on their neighbours in order to appease the tyrants. Look at the last four years.
@@silentbutdadly190 good point
I have said and believed this statement for about half of my 70 years on earth after believing on Jesus ... "when your not affraid to die , you can truly live".
You are correct sir. I'll turn 50 soon, and I've been a saved man for many years. Im in the process, of redirecting my life for more purpose. As John said, "not just logging time". I want to get healthy enough, to be able to be effective. I want to live more purposely. Not just hanging around.
"Every man dies. Not every man truly lives."
"Every man dies, not every man really lives."
~William Wallace
Life isn't meant for "really living"...it's for being restored to God through Christ and then Glorifying God with obedience from gratitude and love returned back to God and sharing the Gospel to others....eternity is where life really is lived.
@@locophoto6881 A live really lived is a life lived for Christ. "Only one life, twill soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last".
My great-grandfather and his brother, along with 500 fellow Georgia Rifles, held the bridge at Antietam against 20,000 Union soldiers, and walked away, with their wounded. His description of the battle still gives me chills. They did not expect to survive, much less triumph, but they all went there, to buy time for a greater force, as the Greeks did.
Unfortunately, the civil war killed more Americans than all other foreign wars. Hopefully we won't repeat this again.
" let me bleed with the warriors of Thermopoliy" that is awesome.
"Pain is temporary. Chicks dig scars. Glory is forever." -John Wick in his football days.

Nice hit Shane!!
Heroes get remembered but legends never die. The sandlot 😂
Life is much more than avoiding death.
Yes 100% agree
Just ordered an autograph copy of your book. New to the gun culture. Just applied for my carry permit in PA. Still don't own a firearm, but I'm looking at a .22LR so I can learn, and teach my 3 kids. I appreciate your content.
Hey bud, firstly, I don't want to sound like a snob or discouraging. By all means, WELCOME to the community. Some advice, if I may.
If this is your first entry to guns, a .22LR is not a bad choice to start learning with. My family keeps a .22LR to plink around at cans and floating leaves with. It's a great gun for kids, and can probably be used to hunt rabbits with. However, that's as far as it can go. If you are concerned about protection at all, I would highly recommend you go with a larger caliber. The .22 makes a very small hole and is too weak to consider for self defense, unless you are ok with legally defending in court why you had to reload and kept on shooting... the same target. Among pistol caliber, I would recommend 9mm. It's not as jarring as the time honored .45 ACP, and there's generally a lot more models to choose from. You can get a Ruger PC carbine and a handgun in 9mm, both shoot the same round and should be just enough to defend your home and family against criminal threats. If your worries are about threats more well armed or wish to be able to hunt, I'd recommend something in .308 at minimum. A lot of people will espouse the good ol' AR-15 (.223/5.56x45mm) but a .308 only needs 1 shot to be effective against the vast majority of threats/game.
It's your life, family, and values, so learn all you can and ask lots of questions. Oh, and good luck!
Look into palmetto state armory. They have many great guns for cheap
@@murdurmuffin7872 I appreciate that. The 22 is just to help teach my kids. I have my eye on a p365.
I bought my first gun in 2019. I went all in and took a basic pistol class, rented many guns before buying my first gun. Eventually felt comfortable enough to get my CPL (carry license) Then I took a class from Robert Vogel, Carry Trainer, Andrew Branca and Massad Ayoob. I HIGHLY recommend taking Massad’s class (MAG20) before he retires. As someone else mentioned starting out with a .22 great. You’ll eventually grow to a bigger caliber. Enjoy the journey. Safety is paramount (I bought a safe before I brought my first gun home). Always keep learning.
@@Daddyoftam Practice with an instructor, and then practice a lot.
One thing about Paul sticks out to me. On Mars Hill, Paul could have told them who he had studied under and would have been accepted on his own merits. But as far as Paul was concerned, Saul was gone and all that was left was the mind of Christ and the mission at hand.
"If you rely on your own strength, you will be able to accomplish what a man can do. When you lean on God's strength, God will accomplish what only He is able to do. He makes incredibly weak men, incredibly strong, for His own glory." ~John Lovell (Warrior poet)
Hey I was at the Hot Gates as well! Pretty cool being on that hill with the plaque eh? I thought it was cool reading the info boards and finding out that they actually said those cool lines in the 300 movies. Btw Leonidas was 60 when he died in that battle. Proving that we can still be fierce warriors in our latter years.
death is lighter than a feather.
duty is heavier than a mountain.
Men need to courage to seek out Truth and the humility to change when confronted with it.
Not a death wish but a wish to preserve life both momentarily and eternally
Yup... that's... that's what he says in the video
My wife and I had an amazing time on this trip to Greece! Every moment was a fascinating journey into history. It's truly like going with a giant family. I highly recommend a Warrior Poet vacation. And getting to hang out and talk with John and his beautiful family is the icing on the cake.
I see the Braveheart Poster on your wall in the background John, have you been to Stirling Castle and The National Wallace Monument in Scotland? That is an awesome place! The true story of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce is awesome. Definitely a have to place to visit while in the UK.
Taking a trip of Poets there in September!!!
My wife, 2 kids and grandchild give me 4 reasons(as of now) to become a warrior poet and a reason to not just die for them but to train to live 4 them. God bless you John train hard, train smart... And train often!
Love it. I am a Spartan descendant. It’s pronounced therrrmopylos. Stay vigilant love you guys.

I noticed you came also to my hometown Thessaloniki and hope you had the oportunity to visit Vergina (ancient Aiges) that you can find Fillipos II (father of Alexander the Great) berial tomp and museum.Another figure (Alexander), not a philosopher ,although his teacher was Aristotelis, but a man of action for his believes, facing a lot of chalenges but never let it down even to his last breath .
We had a great time meeting everyone on the Greece trip. Visiting all of the historical/religious sites was an incredible experience.

Amen my brother...to live is Christ and to die is gain...we live for His Honour and we die in His Honour.
Thanks for doing what you do. I truly believe that protecting my family is my number one job and appreciate your message. God Bless
Sounds like an amazing trip the family went on. Your an incredible man! Wish I knew you
Profound! Live for, what you’re willing to sacrifice and die for! Simple and riveting. That’s what the Lord Jesus did. He came, lived, and walked the perfect life, as an example to us to follow, then he was unlawfully tried, beaten, and crucified, buried and rose again, all this for that, which he found worthy to live and die for, “Mankind”

Powerful video ... thanks!
Beautiful work
Thank you for sharing your insight and thirst for knowledge.
I met you and your sons at a conference in Cincinnati. They are fantastic young men.
You the man John. I love your sermons, you also make history much more interesting and digestible for me, yay for that
Very well put together!!! Thanks
Great stuff man!
At 17:05. This is probably the best monologue about the purpose of living. Thank you!
Thought so too.
Excellent!
Love this video! Amen and PTL ❤️
hell yeah , great video !!
John Lovell, Philippians 1:21-26 is my favorite passage from the Bible. I was excited to see someone else highlight it's significance. Paul, to my understanding, had a much clearer picture of what awaiting him after death then may of us do today, yet he chose to continue to stay on earth and suffer in the pursuit of helping others. I admire the sacrifice he made by choosing to stay. I hope I would chose the same.
Loved this! Keep up the great work!
Absolutely the best content.
Thanks John for everything you do. This video was pure gold. I sent it to multiple people to help expand the warrior poet movement. So many of these ideals are out there and laying dormant in hearts of men and need to be awakened and sharpened. Keep up the great work.
The ending message is what I needed from this! Thanks John!
One of the best vids ever! Outstanding.
Love you, brother. Love your book too. Thanks for fighting the good fight!
This is one of my favorite videos you have ever done. Thank you
Impressive and very well put!!
Good stuff as always John!

You're such a huge inspiration and role model for me, John. I absolutely love your content and the message you want to spread. Keep up the great work. You've gained a life long fan and pupil out of me for sure. I love ya man.
Good stuff John.
Awesome commentary! Learned much! Thanks!
Love it!
Good stuff brother
Very compelling video!
Oh man, you just spoke my heart brother!! As well as a reminder. Thank you for that.
·Don't conflate _wanting_ to die with the _willingness_ to die in combat. The first one is cowardice, the latter is an acceptance of ones mortality and applying value to ones life.
·It was only 298, one had to return iirc and I dont remember where the other one went. Been a while since I read up on it but "calling in sick" did sort of happen.
15:53 checks mirror, sees myself *heck yes! 💪🏼 rock on!*
SIR, Absolutely FABULOUS Video.
Love your channel & Techniques!

Well it wasn’t 300. It was a few thousand. Only the Spartans brought the king of spartas “personal body guards”. There were a couple thousand others from other city states there too.
I grew up in tarpon springs. It’s officially Greece in America. Some of which stayed with the Spartans til the end. The greek navy was also extremely pivotal keeping the Persian navy from landing troops behind them.
I can't stop singing the title of this video along to the melody of "All My Ex's Live in Texas".
what a fantastic video.
You rock mate 👍
White Leonidas' 300 Spartans were cerainly badasses, people seem to forget that there were another 700-1600 Greeks that stayed with them and also fought to the death. They also forget the other side of the Greek defense and the other man of the hour, Themistocles, who led the Greek navy to actually defeat the Persians. One version makes for a better story while the other shows how strong people can be when they are united, against some truly horrific odds.
I remember when I learned about those Men who stayed with the Spartans. right up to the end.
It is a lesson Men in the modern world.could learn from.
Amen Brother!
We need more men like you!!
John that was an awesome video! Now you can take that and preach a sermon from it Sunday by pushing even further into how Jesus... also... pretty much had a death wish
Amen brother!
John, this is one of your best posts ever! Keep up the great work :)
Phil. 1:21 is my life verse. As a young boy and even now as a young man, I have always had this feeling that I couldn't shake ... a feeling that I was meant to die for someone or something (i.e., in a sacrificial manner - not of natural causes). It was viewed as an easy way out of this sometimes hard life (still see it that way sometimes), but now I am coming to grips with the fact that I am going to have to be a man worthy of that calling when the time comes, or I will miss it. I need to be the man that God designed me to be, and it's going to take discipline and work. The thought of sying this way always brought me a sense of peace and purpose. Perhaps I'll be afraid in the moment, but I know God is ever present in those times and grants dying grace to those who give their li es for Him.
Always appreciate a good warrior post but by god do I love the poet videos
Encouraging thank you
Solid movie one liner came to mind during this video... "Live for something or die for nothing" John Rambo lol... The one where he saves Christian missionaries in Burma. I digress, the histories and mini sermons are both valuable.
It is really nice that this channel allows you to Internationally Travel.
You son pulling his tooth out there what a champ of a kid! Lol that’s a cool story to have in your back pocket when he gets older
I can see why men would follow you into harms way. It's the same thing James saw in you. Good on you and yea for that!
Appreciate this message and your stance for Truth, Courage and Jesus Christ
Thank You sir for your service 🇺🇸Thank You sir for what you do 👍
Your words are an inspiration. My fiancée passed away last month and I'm still struggling to figure out where to go from here.
Jan Zizka- 14 century “Death Brings Life”.
Great video! I love the warrior side of the channel but I find my self really feeling the poet side more. You have a way of telling history and making it relatable and come alive! Keep up the fight brother!
It wasn’t just 300, it was 300 Spartans and then like 1500 others that were locals to the area I don’t recall but they were armed and fighters just not elite Spartans.
accurate
Athenians
This quote by Napoleon Bonaparte always struck a chord with me. "Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded his empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for him."
Crazy how Jesus legacy lives on while the empires of these notable leaders all crumbled.
You need to read Augustine, Aquinas, Fulton Sheen and ESPECIALLY G.K. Chesterton: who always carried a pistol and a sword cane everwhere he went.
He is the one who coined the phrase "A warrior does not fight what he hates in front of him; he fights for what he loves that is behind him." Or similar.
That was awesome. I think one of the big issues today is aimlessness. People don’t have something they believe in dying for. So they don’t have something to live for. Excellent.
Interesting thoughts
I appreciate your take on all 3, but especially the apostle Paul. I was asked one time if I could go back in history and talk with one person who would it be. I immediately answered Paul.
Aye you come to South Africa, hope you enjoyed it...❤
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21🇨🇦
Don't know if you heard yourself but about 6 minutes 12 seconds minutes you were talking about Socrates being willing to die and live for his purpose I believe it's very important that if you can't live for what you believe you'll never die for it
Your doing great job warrior poet
You favorite L/CPL
Can’t stop thinking about the Brad Pitt quote from Troy “and that’s why no one will remember your name.” Those Spartans would never have called in sick that day. 2500 years later we are talking about those Chads
I didn't even know that you still had a channel. I have not seen you in my feed in several months. Maybe even a year. The algorithm is against you my friend. Thank you for your insight in the world.
I love that Thucydides quote 💪
Brother, I'm with you
If you're not, start training us
God bless
Socrates was an OG Gangsta of Philosophy....
Perfectly said
When John put up the Socrates painting, all I could think of was the Steve Martin skit. Sounds like a cool trip.
The Assyrians....then the Babylonians....then the Persians....then the Romans....so on.....each thought 'WE WILL RULE FOREVER!!!"
Only the Lord does....Rock on, John!
P.S. The quote “After I am dead, I'd rather have people ask why I have no monument than why I have one” is attributed to the Stoic philosopher Cato.
Cato's meaning was that he wanted his admirable and honest behavior to be more prominent than his likeness.
I'm not going to lie I'm probably going to die in the 1st 5 minutes of of WW3 hahahaha.
One of John's most inspiring messages that I have ever been blessed to listen to. Follow the Savior. Live and love.
