  • Pandemics, climate breakdown, social, economic and political unrest - these are just a few of the stressors confronting the 21st century psyche, often with painful outcomes. Nonetheless, Buddhist wisdom has much to offer in helping us weather the storms of modern life.
Ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist nun in 1977, Venerable Thubten Chodron is the founder and abbess of Sravasti Abbey. Sravasti Abbey is one of the first Tibetan Buddhist training monasteries for Westerners in the U.S., and holds gender equality, social engagement, and care for the environment amongst its core values. Venerable Chodron teaches worldwide and is known for her practical and humorous explanations of how to apply Buddhist teachings in daily life. She is also involved in prison outreach and interfaith dialogue. She has published many books on Buddhist philosophy and meditation and is currently assisting His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the writing and publication of The Library of Wisdom and Compassion, a multi-volume series of teachings on the Buddhist path.

Thank you Venerable for this very on time teaching for me personally. I was reflecting on my experience of 2022, and realized if I had to give it a theme, or a title, it would be fear. I hope to retrain my mind and experience a more peaceful 2023.

Bless you Venerable Chodron for all you have done with your life. You help clear away the muck, laugh about it, and feel free. I love your sense of humor, and open heart! It's such an inspiration. Blessings for the abbey, protection from the fire, gratitude for the three jewels, and peace for the monastics🙏
    Forever grateful

Anxiety = To much worrying about future and Depression = To much worrying about what had happened in the past.

It's thinking, full stop, then engaging with thought.
