No, he is not talking about killing Jesus or God. He is saying to his mother that yes maybe you made some mistakes in your life, but she is a good person, so why is this happening to her?
For forever I thought that those two “parentheses”, kind of making a circle, was the circle but they are actually the shadow of the circle (or the sides of a 3D circle, however you choose to perceive it). Very cleverly done and so simple that I’m actually sad ‘cause I can’t unsee it and it makes it less appealing to me now.
I’m a big Tool fan since I first saw them at a festival in Sweden in 2001 (completely blew my mind and greatly impacted my way of thinking about music and life). I always dabbled with a perfect circle on the side, I even think I heard this song and also The Hollow from the same album before I ever started listening to Tool. This debut album, Mer de Noms, is great album so you should just do them all. My favorite I think would be Orestes, it’s awesome. And their second album “Thirteenth Step” is another great album, especially the opener, The Package. And as you might have guessed it is an album kind of dedicated to addiction as I heard you talk a bit about in one of your other reactions. Stay safe 🤘

This song is about Maynard's religious mother who had a stroke and was left paralyzed and still remained religious, Maynard had a hard time dealing with how she could still worship Him. The person screaming in the song is the guitar player.

I always took "It's not like you killed someone" as Maynard saying god is punishing Judith as if she had committed some mortal sin, but she didn't do anything to deserve her fate of being confined to a wheelchair, so her faith is flawed. She was alive when this was written. She died in 2003 and Tool's album 10,000 Days features "Wings for Marie" Part I & II which is dedicated to her and Maynard sort of coming to terms with the way she lived her life after her stroke. Always makes me misty eyed. If you do those, they only make sense to do together, but it will be a long one and well worth it! A Perfect Circle has a pretty solid catalog. "Passive" and "Outsider" are my favorite tracks. They also have an album called "Emotive" released in 2004 during the invasion of Iraq which is (mostly) covers of anti-war songs like "Imagine", "Peace, Love and Understanding", and "What's Going On?" Maynard has another group called Puscifer which is a little more "out there" but a helluva good time too! Keep killing it!
Part of it was her church saying that her illness was God punishing her for her past sins. But despite that, she still remained as faithful as ever (Praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed)
Also 10000 days is a reference to how long she spent paralyzed in the wheelchair

Billy Howerdel is the guitarist and founding member of the band, who also happened to be Adam Jones from Tool's guitar tech... Maynard heard the stuff Billy was working on and asked to join, so there is a connection to Tool other than Maynard, however I would say the guitar work on APC is a bit more conventional by comparison, and that's not a criticism, just the song structures are less prog. Maynard wrote those lyrics just after his mum had passed, which is probably why it's so straight to the point and filled with anger, as all the emotions were probably hitting. Tool is the mind, APC is the heart and Puscifer (Maynards other band) is the genitals.
Maynard isn't the lead singer of Tool or A Perfect Circle. Maynard is the singer.

Not sure if anyone else got into the explanation so forgive me if it's been explained. Judith was A devote Christian who never doubted her faith. When she became sick some of the people from her church told her she was to blame for her own demise because she was A sinner. Maynard became extremely angry at this because he knew his mother was A Saint and he struggled to understand her unwavering faith in Jesus. He was angry at God and the church for blaming her.
