I know he’s not really rare, but I just love when I’m wandering Skyrim and all of a sudden I see M’aiq just standing there up ahead. I always get happy when I see him
Saw him 4 times in a row once when riding my horse. that Kajit is faster than my deadric mount and that scares me.
For me, that’s Talsgar the Wanderer.
Always amps me up for more adventuring.
To me it's the 4 kajiits that go arround the map, im really simpathetic to them
Balbus: Do you know the Gourmet?
You: Well, of course I know him. He' s me.
Fun fact he has a fucking dadra heart on him so I think you know what I did
Met him starting a playtrough near Riverwood way, I haven't started the darkbrotherhood questline

Sharkzilla Gaming -the rarest encounter is putting the game down and seeing another living person
So the thief one: I had *just* joined the guild and was on horseback when the thief ran up to me. Didn’t try and mug me, but flat out said “Here, take this sister” and said something about thieves sticking together, gave me a present and then ran off. Didn’t even get off my horse lol.
Annemarie Hartnett : Maybe he had a crush on your character? What better way for a thief to confess their love than with a heavy bag of gold?
@@zigzaghyena I wish life worked like this. "I'd like to take you out for coffee. Here's a burlap bag with 37 dollars to sweeten the deal."
These random gifts are so weird. I once turned a corner and (surprise!) found frost dragon fighting a vampire. I helped and not only did the vampire not attack me, but it ran up to me a minute later and gave me a dagger. This is why I don't fast travel. It gives me FOMO.
That's super random thing. Sometimes thives share their stolen things with me and day somethin like "Thank you for your service, Nightingale. Nocturnal brought me many luck" and sometimes they just spawn and get killed by random citizens
Well if u got nightingale armour on he says that he's been bestowed with luck and gives you 500 gold
I love how you phrase "Murder to death." As if you could murder someone to anything else.

Those, journals, and other notes I keep in one spot. Actual books I put on bookshelves.
@Michael O Callaghan so. Dam
True. I bugged the hell of of me. Like, why can't I place the claws of the first bear I killed. It sucked.
The oddest thing I've encountered in skyrim is that I'm able to adopt a child. Like as the dragonborn I've done some pretty messed up stuff. Like I've killed an entire city because I was bored. And you're letting me take care of a child?
I don't know why but I get so triggered when you say murder to death. I guess you're gonna have to keep saying it now.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
COOKIE WOKE you take care of them I just give them money the childhood I never had.
I am not sure if Skyrim during 4th Era boasts a social system that would decide if you can or can not adopt a child. You just take the orphans home if you have any.
I myself found Balbus' dead body while on a quest to kill a Dragon. Looted his fork and kept forgetting to look into it.
Good to know who he was and all that.
I was in Riften stables where i was attacked by the dawnguard scouts, balbus was in the wrong place at the wrong time and got caught in the crossfire and killed. Since i couldn't talk to him I was suprised why a fork was named after him. Its just chilling in a chest at one of my homes
@@backtobasics9382 he is commonly killed indeed as he spawns in bad places I always find him outside white run near that bandit cove with the blind dude with the book, a place we’re random encounters happen like vampires bandits etc

"How you choose to thank bulbus, if at all, is entirely up to you."

The oddest encounter I had in Skyrim was when I came across the three drunkards enjoying themselves only to see them getting slaughtered by a werewolf after crossing a bridge a few minutes later
lmao I remember this hilarious moment when I encountered a mammoth somewhere and as I was running away a troll came to join the fight. And I was standing in the bushes watching those two going at it and then a dragon joined in too XXD. And the maximum of dragons that has attacked me at the same time is 3. So yeah I think moments like that is my favorite moments where there's just so many enemies around that it turns into a brawl.
@@zebnemma I was in the evergreen forest, already fighting with two spriggans, when an npc named "Fugitive" ran to me and gave me a sword maybe? Starting a dialouge while I was still in combat. At the same time, a dragon decided to swoop down upon us, I accidentally harmed two foxes with my spell, Lydia was nowhere (well why would she?), so it was quite a sight: me running in circles while dealing with two spriggans, two foxes, a dragon, and trying to send the fugitive the fuck away.
@@SeleneCullenPotter LMAO and that's why chaos+randomness is my favorite element in most games, hilarity ensues. And yeah the NPC always interupting a fight happens way too much. I'm shouting at the screen "Like can you fucking go away can't you see I'm kinda busy here???!" ANd yeah ofc the follower is stuck somewhere when you need them the most. One time I played Skyrim drunk and I lost Lydia in the mountains somewhere and then she was gone from that gamesave forever but I have no memory of how or when I lost her cuz I was drunk. I figured she must've fell off a cliff or something. So I remember that as a wild party night for my character that got Lydia killed that I can't remember. X'D
My favorite odd/random encounter is when CZcams actually gives me notifications for Nate’s videos
For those who have encountered Balbus, it's possible to make him become a permanent member inside one of your three homesteads along with your spouse, children, pets, housecarl, steward, and carriage driver. Unlike other random encounters, Balbus doesn't reset his position (before the 2.0.4 skyrim patch) meaning he'll remain in that area indefinitely. What you need to do is get him to chase to your homestead then immediately cast a fear spell/shout and have him run inside your home. Another way is to mount a horse and push him all way near your home then attack him but run inside your house then either cast a calm spell on him or sheath your weapon. If you're reading this and it worked, you can thank me later.
@@JS-rv3et Have you ever heard the quote "The more the merrier." Why not take advantage of having another friendly able body become a member of your homestead, it's what they did during the medieval days. Ultimately, it's your choice if you choose to or not, but trust me, the end results is very rewarding, especially seeing that Balbus will interact with the background in your Hearthfire home, similar to what your spouse, Housecarl, and Steward will do.
@@JS-rv3et Sorry, I do recommend you bring him inside your home, safe from giants and dragons outside. If you have any more questions on this topic, I'll be glad to answer them.

I kinda love hearing Nate explain how big Skyrim is.
Imagine how his ex-girlfriend has it when he describes how big something else is
I almost like it more than when he explains how not small it is.
....almost.
Early in the game, you come across the farmer with a cow to which he intends to gift to the local giants.
If you actually follow him to the giants, they immediately become hostile and usually knock him into the stratosphere.
Wait he's random? I found him once by whiterun.. I thought that was normal
@@neonswan1482 ya everytime I make a new playthrough he was always near Whiterun
4 years later, but does the cow he has does it have markings on it??
6:00 I though his name was literally "Cigar on a roadside" When you said it....
Do you remember Talsgar the Wanderer, the blonde Nord bard in random encounters? I met him once on my first playthrough trip to Riften. I stopped many times, because of all the wolfes&bears&alchemic ingredients. So he followed me almost all the road without despawning. He was attacked a lot of times by bandits&animals. And that maniac chopped them all with his iron sword.
The year is 2080 the nuclear fallout has started. You have 11 minutes and 51 seconds left of electricity before every piece of technology you have left is powerless you hover over the last video that you’ll see for a long time “ 5 more strange encounters you may have missed in the elder scrolls 5” it’s gonna be a good day.
Balbus spawns even if you didn't start the dark brotherhood. Just in case you didn't know, because Nate didn't say that...
Ive only met him after I was impersonating the chief. So thats kinda neat
*Ginger Kubicz*
I know I've met him several times after killing off Dark Brotherhood and maybe even before that but not sure about that one.
I rather liked encountering him before doing anything with the Dark Brotherhood. Gave hints that there might be a character I have yet to maybe meet. And then coming across the DB quest and meeting the Gourmet made it all the sweeter.
I once met him before I even met Aventus Aretino and Grelod the Kind, so I also know he can spawn earlier in the game.
What I find hilarious about Balbus is that nearly all of the cooking ingredients he can give you are poisonous and/or have negative effects 😂

I'll admit, I was disappointed in how the Devs. treated the Morag Tong in Skyrim. Pity really; there was a lot they could have done with them.
I remember when I first encountered the wabbajack lady. I honestly had completely forgotten about the wabbajack, even though it was in my inventory. I honestly thought she was like a crackhead until I googled it and remembered the sheogorath quest. good times
Wanted x3 😂😂legit just encountered that Madwoman, bout an hour ago near Winterhold
I like the random encounter where a wizard on solsteim tries a levitation spell, but ends up launching himself in the air and falling to death.
One of the rarest random encounters inside of Skyrim would have to be coming across two dragons fighting against each other, which virtually never occurs.
I think its funny when your playing early game an dragons decide to attack giant camps an proceed to get blitzed by the giants an mammoths.
they never fight each other when it happens to me, they just fuck my asshole double style
Fun fact: there's a quest for number 5, Nate. It's started by finding a argonian named Wujeeta at the Riften docks or the fishery. She'll ask for a healing potion of any kind to get rid of a skooma addiction and will thank you if you give one to her. After giving one to her, the quest starts with you finding riften's skooma dealer and ends with Cragslane cavern. Just to let you know.
Does flying mammoths count as random encounters? No?
@@boonski Glitches? Nah dude, it's a feature. Just like when you get launched to space by giants, it's always been in the game. Can't be anything but a feature!

With the assassin if you've finished the Thieves Guild quest there's actually a member who talks about how he was in the rival gang. When asking "why don't you join the Dark Brotherhood" he will explain that they are rivals and not to let anyone in the brotherhood know that you've met him because you'll be marked for a hit from DB. Which is funny because I'm the Listener. So they never made an interaction where you can tell him. Cause I would have loved to have seen his reaction. 🤣
When I got attacked by a Morag Tong assassin, my blood ran cold when I saw "Honorable Writ of Execution: Artemis" (Artemis is my female Nord, appropriately named after the Greek goddess of hunt). Normally, something like this wouldn't really affect me as people will send hired thugs after me occasionally, but for some reason, I got chills just from reading the note to execute me though I think that the fact that he can legally murder me and get away with it was what scared me the most.
The only time I ever met Balbus was just in time to see a Sabre Cat kill him.
boonski for me, it was a bear, then on my next play through a dragon... he is quite unlucky
@@Mikani_natsu2475 The Random Encounter character most unlucky for me is easily The Madwoman (Asks to be hit with the Wabbajack). Only got to talk to her once. In every playthrough of Skyrim (I've played through most of the game with each race, beaten it with a few) she either gets killed right in front of me or I find her body in the middle of the road.
The Frighten Man or Woman are the most unlucky encounters I've met, every time I play it they end up dying by someone or something. It's fucked up because they just escaped from their kidnappers, an hour ago I ran into a frighten woman, pointed towards Whiterun, which was literally right behind me, and she ends up running too close towards a bandit hideout only to be killed by them. Divine tragedy or divine comedy, either way I felt both shock and hilarity at the same time.

I encounter Balbus all the time. Right after escaping Helgen I always run down to the house across the river, the one with the old lady witch, because there is a spot near her house that always spawns random encounters. I tend to get dead treasure hunters and Balbus there a lot.
I was going to say just that. I've met Balbus in most of my playthroughs, even the ones I never played past lvl 10 or so, and in most of them I didn't play the dark brotherhood questline because it didn't fit the character I was playing.

On the Cragslane caverns, you as an also get a quest there from the Jarl of Riften.
For #2, if youre part of the thieves guild you can talk to a member in the cistern who reveals he was part of the tang clan, he also remarks that if the Brotherhood knew he was part of the tang, that they would put out a hit on him

in 200 years nate will still be here talking about skyrim.
I knew the thief on the road fact only partly. I knew being a member of the Guild unlocked unique dialogue, but the two Nightingale options were new to me.
By the way Nate: there's a quest related to Cragslane, where you're tasked to clear out the Skooma operation in that place. You can unlock it after finding an Argonian female skooma addict inside Riften, who begs you for a healing potion as she might lose her job ;) Have a great day Nate!
The thieves I’ve met on the road wore glass armor. Same basic dialogue and all. I was wearing thieves guild armor and was half way through the quest line... I never had the option Nate showed. 😔

3:08 I got the fork, but in a different way. I encountered him around whiterun, and he annoyed me. So... Yeah. He also had a deadra heart.
I remember finding the wolf pits and clearing out the fighting ring, then as I was leaving the area (just hopping from unexplored location to unexplored location), only about two minutes walk away I have the escaped dogs encounter, and I shrugged it off as "well, guess I approached from the wrong side" (I rarely take roads in Skyrim, cheesing up and through mountains is so much more fun)

I actually ran into Balbus WAY before I started the Dark Brotherhood questline. Like, outside Whiterun near the beginning of the game early.
I found balbus on a brand new save file as I was on my way to meet the greybeards and killed him just because, but also, I had never done anything dark-brotherhood related yet in that file
