  • I have received many questions about the baby deer that I rescued in my documented video that I filmed last year, so I wanted to answer your most asked questions and show you how the deer family is doing now. I have filmed them a few more times, they are doing great, and they are still around.
Thank you very much for all your support, kind words and love.

To those who feel sad the deer doesn't recognize the humans and dogs who rescued her is a compliment to those very people who carefully released the young deer at such an age that she or he is not trustful of humans who would hunt her or mistake dogs for wolves that are their predators. These wonderful folks gave the fawn her life back and with her timely return to the wild she will have the skills to survive since he made sure the deer was released to her herd and learned from them how to survive on her next journey.

55 years ago... oh boy, so long ago, my brother and sister brought home a deer they thought had been abandoned. The mother had actually just left it hidden while she went to eat. We had him in our kitchen on blankets, our dog laid with him, we fed a special blend of milk from a bottle as you did. His mother would come to the end of our driveway and call (like a sheep) for him. He sadly didn't quite get that this was his mother and come romping back. We never caged him or restrained him and we didn't have the predators that you do. He grew up running through the hills with my brother and sister and me and our dog. He grew antlers which was when we took him to the Santa Cruz Mountains to a huge piece of property (hundreds of priavetly owned acres) and left him. He was left at a cabin with a man who he knew and who kept an eye on him. Every week for a month we would go back and call him and he would come bouncing back down the mountain. The last visit we called and called and he didn't come. Then we saw him up on the ridge with a doe!! We were so happy he had found his way back to nature. I'm a teacher now and share this story often telling my students, never take an animal from nature. Always call the wildlife rescue people to come help. The goal is not to make a pet out of anything wild but to get it back into the wild. I'm going to save your videos for our first rainy day at school and share it with my students! Thank you!

Barbara Jerabek I hear you, but here by me the game and fish people have connections with veterinarians that have regular people they know who'll nurse these critters back to health and then set them free. My sister is one of those people they call. Nuturing anything from deer, raccoons to opposums and skunk babies.

I enjoyed your chronicle of rehabbing the fawn. We are federally licensed as a private wildlife rehabilitation facility and rehab wild birds of prey. We have rehabbed a variety of owls, hawks, kestrels, peregrines, kites, vultures, and even an eagle--mostly adult birds. Two years ago we had a very young red-tailed hawk nestling as one of our charges. This bird had no physical damage such as injuries sustained in a vehicular strike or even any disease. It was merely taken from its nest by people thinking it had been abandoned. This resulted in some imprinting--something with which we had never had to deal. We cared for it but also had to live-prey test it and incorporate other activities in an effort to "teach" it not to depend on us. Time went on and Ruby, the red-tailed hawk, really needed to be released. Although she flew free, she kept coming back and stalking us to be fed. She literally watched the house, our screened porch, when I took the dogs out in the morning. She would land on the roof and squawk to announce she was hungry. Yes, she had turned into a teenager hawk; I fully expected her to ask for the car keys next. Normally, a rehabbed bird is released in the same area where it was found since they mate for life and have their own territory. Ruby, being a baby, had no mate or territory and was freed at our house which was the correct habitat for her. Once she was released, we began receiving feedback of "Ruby sightings" from friends in the area. She seemed to be thriving. Since we had documented her journey with frequent Facebook updates to friends and family, everyone around seemed to follow her progress. There were several who attempted to take pictures of Ruby in their backyard and would report if they saw her hunting successfully. This was three years ago. Recently we had a Ruby sighting of our own. She returned for a brief visit, perhaps to just check in with us, squawk, see if we had a live mouse for her, and then...she was off again. If you do see an injured animal, be sure to research what to do and consult your area's wildlife rehabilitation center to be sure your actions are appropriate for the situation. I applaud honeysada's efforts to help this fawn but more importantly return it to the fold where it belongs. Too often humans, with the best intentions, try to make pets of wildlife to protect them. It is far better to allow them to live the life for which they were created and remain free. Lovely success story here. Thank you for what you have done for this deer.

I think She does remember.... I really do, but I think her mother and brother have showed Her how to be very cautious and survive in the wild, and so she does just that....I'd also like to think they come around and come on your property often because they really do appreciate you. All of them!.... but if by chance they don't, there are millions of people in his world that do Sir!!! May all the good come back to you and your family, that you do for others!

I'm not familiar with how deer behave, but I find it really nice how the deer became completely absorbed back into the nature and forgot about the domesticated life. When I watched the first vid I was sceptical of how the deer would survive being raised in a Dometic environment, again, not really knowing anything about deer at all. There's something sweet about the idea of moving back on and living where you truly belong

One thing that is obvious, whether or not she "remembers" you: The wildlife feel safe near your home, in your general surroundings. I think at the least they feel your respect for their presence. That's really cool. My neighbors that visit and feel comfortable with me to about 15 feet or so are: Raven descendants of one very special "Mama" that had a white marking, this is a pair, one of which I believe was her hatchling from about 8 years ago. Also 5 deer that nap in the yard and come eat my herb garden on the patio, and a raccoon or two, who like to raid my bird feeders! The other critters keep their distance. :) I enjoy these videos, they are nice relaxing breaks between tasks. The narrative as well as the music is sweet. Have a fabulous spring!

Thank you, honeysada, for your compassion and empathy with this deer family, at the same time showing the beautiful area where you live. It's paradise, so pristine, with these magnificent rock formations in the background, at times! Since we're more at home, now, in The Netherlands, in my garden I've created a large birdfeed table on a dead tree trunk and in 2 weeks time, many different birds have discovered the food, flying on and off, while there are 4 different bird-nests in the thick mass of ivy that is wrapped around a cherry tree in my neighbor's garden. Below the birdfeed-table is a large water bowl, where birds are drinking and washing, dipping in that funny way, ruffling their feathers. It's better than television, ha!

You did a MOST EXCELLENT job re-wilding that fawn. My Dad (who passed away in 2008) loved deer and consequently, I grew up loving them too. Learned to spot them when I was about 5 when the family would go on nature rides.
Absolutely LOVE where you live. You are certainly blessed. I live in a suburb (which got sucked into a city). We have deer here in the little woods behind us. There are little woods in several of the adjoining neighborhoods and the deer go from one to the other.
About a week-and-a-half back a Doe and twins (about 1 yr old) stopped in the yard that adjoins ours. We watched from the window for about 45 minutes. It was fascinating. The Doe actually took her hoof and "slapped" one of the fawns. The other laid down in the grass. I'd never seen deer relaxed in someone's back yard during the mid-afternoon. They ate and as cars would go by, they would go on alert. It was such a treat, but nothing like the experience you had.
Thank you for sharing all that you have. All the best of blessings.

I strongly believe that your videos do and will have an influence on many people, just as you hope, to be compassionate towards animals and to be kind in general. I feel that humans live by example and when they see others doing things they tend to emulate them. The more examples of goodness that we can share in this world, the more it will spread and grow like wildflowers in fields. Thank you for consciously spreading beauty and nourishment for the world's benefit.
    All my best to you!

LOVE the vid. Yesterday we had a baby fawn in our area under a pine tree. She stayed there, sleeping and getting up and moving around the tree a bit and sleeping. One time she stood and softly barked. Eventually she left with the doe. We are very lucky to be living in a 8,000 acre wildlife preserve with about 2500 houses. No one plants lawns, everything is woodland and we not allowed to cultivate, by our rules. We have so much wildlife here. Blessings to you and your family.

Honeysada Thanks 💕so much for posting this touching story and update. It made my day so much better. I live in the Midwest US with household pets and wild deer nearby too. It is completely plausible that a person can recognize a four-legged neighbor and her family - even a year later. What an amazing recovery Little Fawn made with your kind time and attention. All she needed was a little more time to strengthen that leg!
Watching Mack take over like mama dog was a pretty fun to see - so many face washings - not enough time! Lovely reminder of how we are here for a short time, and life supports life....Animals don’t get too bothered about different fur color or species.... they just check things out, and if no hostility is made known, they can pretty much all go along to get along.....Thanks for your time and effort, and this gentle reminder.
So cool, too, that Mama Deer eventually took Little Fawn back into the fold. Bet you were pretty glad she did, too. ;-)
When all the nightly news is focused on stupidity, chaos, and destruction of character because it sells, it damages children’s minds and our collective psyche if given too much airtime.
I want you to know I’d gladly sign up for your channel any day of the week and twice on Sundays. God Bless you, Sir.

I just love how deer hop so high like they are bouncing off a springboard in slow motion and so cite to see their white tails swishing from side to side in unison!
Thank you for caring so much.

The amazing part of these story was this man knew the deer should be with deer, even though she got close to him and his dog's and would of stayed there thinking that's what she also was he knew a deer isn't made for a pet some people get exotics animals and think they can give them a much better life because hey in the wild they have to fend for themselves , but the real cruel thing is keeping them from what God intended they be. This man rescued a baby helped her get stronger feed her and found her mother now she's a beautiful one year old deer wild and free....God bless you sir ❤❤❤❤

Two days ago a fawn that was born 3 weeks ago got separated from his mom. We noticed she was crouching under our patio but there wasn’t much shelter. We walked up to her slowly on the patio, she came nose to nose to me as I knelt down, and we wondered where her mom was. They both regularly appear morning and dinnertime, she’s drinking her mom’s milk, her mom eats the bamboo, shrubs, and other trees and grass on our property, mom licks her all over as does do with their babies. We stood there, she was looking everywhere, crying, wet and in the rain. The sound of her cries in the rain at dusk broke our hearts! We left her alone, uninjured, she stayed in the bamboo right next to our house. We live in the woods, and from our living room, we can see their daily path on the property. An hour and a half later we saw them reunited, a few feet from where she became lost. Thank the Lord! Our story led to find YOUR compassionate, miraculous, inspiring story. We’ve learned great lessons watching the wildlife here. Blessings to you, fellow animal lover!

The does often hide their babies, temporarily. So the fawn may have been put there by it's mother, because she knew it to be a safe place. And it sounds like that it is. :o) So I think you and your home must be special.

I am glad I committed to something as simple as feeding a large flock of sparrows throughout this very nasty winter. They trust my dog more than they do me , but she is such a sweet dog, so why not....... I recall you saving the injured newborn dear. Nice work. My dog got stomped by a giant buck a few years ago, so she made a wise switch to sparrows.

Thank you for talking about the baby Deer. That still sticks in my head. As I had told you before that I had raised one. The SHERIFF DEPARTMENT CALLED ME IF THEY FOUND A ANIMAL. AND I WOULD RAISE IT IF I COULD. I WAS SO EXCITED TO GET IT. THEY KEEP COMING BACK TO YOUR HOUSE AND BRING THEIR BABIES . SHE HAD GOT LOST FROM HER MOM. AND DOG'S WAS PLAYING WITH IT. SOME PEOPLE PUT HER US AND CALLED THE SHERIFF THEY CALLED ME..AS YOU KNOW YOU BECOME THEIR MOM REAL QUICK. YES I JUST LOVED IT. SO YOUR LOVING NATURE WITH YOUR'S JUST MADE ME WEEPY. WHEN I SEE IT I HAVE TO WATCH IT AGAIN. BUT YOUR DOG JUST GRIPPED MY HEART. THAT WAS THE SWEETEST THING.EVERY TIME I SEE A PICTURE OF A DOG LIKE THAT ONE, I SEE HIM IN MY HEAD GROOMING THAT BABY. IM A HORSE LOVER TO AS I'VE TOLD YOU. I STILL DREAM OF HER. YOUR HORSE NIBBLING ON YOUR COAT AND BOOT, LICKING YOUR HAND, REMINDED ME OF GOLDY. LIKE A CHILD .FOLLOW ME EVERYWHERE. IVE RAISED BABY BIRDS, BABY SQUIRRELS, THEIR EYES WERE NOT OPEN. FELL OUT OF A TREE THAT WAS CUT DOWN. THEY BROUGHT THEM TO ME. WHAT A SIGHT THAT BECAME. I WAS THEIR MOM ALSO. I LOVE ANIMALS AND NATURE. I GUESS YOU HAVE NOTICED. ALL BUT THE BEAR. AND BADGER. NOT SO MUCH. THE BEAR WENT SKATING ON THE HOOD OF MY CAR. COMES ON THE DECK AND CARRIES EVERYTHING OFF THAT HAS FOOD IN IT. I HAVE WIRED MY LITTLE BIRD CAGE THAT I PUT FOOD CAKES IN FOR BIRDS. HE UN DOES THE WIRE TAKES THE FEEDER'S OFF. AND SOME YOU STUMBLE UP ONTO THEM , MANY YOU NEVER FIND. LOVES SUGAR WATER FOR HUMMINGBIRDS. THEY WILL TAKE THOSE. BIRD BOXES CRUSHED HUNTING FOR FOOD. HE'S A BLACK MALE BEAR. HIS ROAR IN EARLY MORNING AT TIMES, WILL MAKE YOUR HAIR STAND STRAIGHT UP. SORRY , I GOT CARRIED AWAY. GOD BLESS, AND THANK'S FOR SHARING YOUR LIFE WITH US. I LOVE IT.
