Who was his arch nemesis? The columnist that he called "You Bitch!"? Or was it Walter Winchell? It was never clearly revealed in this documentary.
I thought it was a woman singer he could not stand.

I loved his show growing up in the coal mining little town of Ranshaw, Pa., starting in the early 1950s. From Topo Gigio to The Beatles, you never knew what stars would appear on his variety show. He was a true gentleman. Loved this well done documentary, too.

My uncle was a cameraman for CBS and mainly for the Sullivan show which I had front rows seats to some great shows. My birthday is February 9th and for my 14th birthday I was given by Ed a backstage pass in 1964. Yep got to meet the Fab Four. R.I.P

Ed brought different types of music and laughter and Sunday was a joy .We also had friends over for Sunday dinner back in those days not all had a TV it as a good time .

I still remember watching the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. I just turned seven. My girl cousins were screaming and rolling on the floor. I thought this was odd but I became a great fan.

I met Alan King a couple of times. I also met Ed himself. We were coming out of the Garden after a fight card. He seemed in declining health. I was in the theatre for a Letterman taping. Be well everyone.
I grew in the 60's watching the Ed Sullivan Show every Sunday night. LOVED it.
Especially remember when the Beatles made their first American appearance in February 1964. Good times back then.

It was Jim Morrison of the Doors.
Sullivan was wrong about The Doors and Morrison. Jim sang the song like the way it was recorded. He was not afraid of Sullivan and possibly not to be invited back for a second time because Jim was smart enough to know that the Doors were already a hit. They didn't go on the show to gain popularity,they already were popular.

WARNING!!! If you are reading this and haven't watched any of this documentary yet save yourself 30 minutes!! What a joke the title is .... at no point in the documentary does it make clear who the 'one person' was. It is even possible there is no truth to the title at all. The documentary starts off well enough but it isn't long before you start seeing the same photos again and again and again. So too the stories. And the narration is a snoozer. It's crap like this that should never see the light of day.
And I hate when the photos are not in sync with time frame being narrated.

While Ed Sullivan was a New York Sportswriter, Bat Masterson for a time was the same for a rival New York Newspaper.
That is a wonderful piece of trivia you brought up! And Masterson, who used to referee boxing matches ( once he pulled a gun, in the ring, on a boxer outraged by a decision by Masterson) wrote sports stories among others. There is a movie from about 1940 that I saw on late night TV a couple times abt 50 years ago , a western with Claire Trevor, Barry Sullivan and the actor who played 'Dr. Cyclops' , Albett Decker , based on an article Bat wrote abt a lost love of his called ' a woman of the town'..a very good movie for a B production...

i grew up watching Ed every Sunday evening and vividly remember the debut of the Beatles. Ed was a pioneer and no one could fill his shoes. You idiots squacking “clickbait” are completely misguided.

Ed Sullivan did not have world-wide fame. Ditto Johnny Carson. Strictly USA.
He was a monster. He didn’t want Bo Didly to play rock and roll on his guitar. Bo did it anyway and Sullivan threatened him. He told Bo Didly he will ruin his career. It never happened because no one played a guitar like him. Ed Sullivan was very controlling. And was very rude and obnoxious.
It is wonderful having a person who was so close to him and knew him so well for so many years,, AS YOU APPARENTLY ARE, to share your most moving insights. In reality, you may be surprised that there are not many in Hollywood or Rock that are genuinely NICE people. Jimmy Stewart, Greg Peck or Vincent Price, all 3 of whom I knew, were exceptions, but few and far between. Most of this video is to denigrate him ( more interesting for some of that ilk) but if you read books by some of the people who knew him long term , like Jack Benny, Harpo Marx , George Burns, you get a more balanced view. You want someone EVIL??..Walter Winchell, kirk douglas, the heads of many of the studios, walkace beery should give you joy!

My neighborhood was not far from Baldwin Hills, where I worked every summer at the Crenshaw Shopping district, during high school. Your sarcasm is ignorance in disguise. You don’t know WHO I knew, who and what I was exposed to. I remember listening to black celebrities who lived in Baldwin Hills because at the time they weren’t allowed to live in Beverly Hills, and various other upscale cities. they often talked about monsters like Ed Sullivan. And wonderful people like Marilyn Monroe, who by the way, catapulted Ella Fitzgerald’s career. A famous nightclub in Hollywood refused to allow Ella to sing in their club because they didn’t want “colored” entertainers. Marilyn Monroe threatened to close them down if Ella was not allowed to sing. And the rest is history. By assuming you can get get away with your childish and condescending comment regarding my experience in life, showed who you are; can you get any more Bitter? You’re unhappy as hell. Must suck to me you. Lighten up. Dude. We ALL have experiences to share. Hope you find some semblance of happiness. And Yes, James Stewart wasn’t a pleasant man and Mickey Rooney was a total A$&hole. Anyway, Taylor was a better actor than tyrone power, his rival from fox( Taylor at mgm) who almost NEVER is shown actually LISTENING to what the other actors are saying..I am sure that you have heard the line ' a graduate from the tyrone power school of acting'....Taylor listened and was sincere and, from QUO VADIS on , became a better actor, esp. in Westerns. But, dying of cancer, he was really tailing off from abt 1964 to his death. Taylor and power also broke in in 1934, Flynn as well, the four most handsome actors from 4 different studios. MacMurray was the king of romantic comedies, which his studio, Paramount, specialized in, power ( with Alice faye) was 20th century foxes biggest money maker from abt 1938 thru 1947, Flynns roles, by 1948, were getting less and less, drink and scandal did not help, while from 1950 on Taylor was easily the biggest star of the 4. While ranking second at mgm in the 30s and 40s only to Gable, the king of Hollywood.
