Can't wait for Tooka Laylee, then Yooka Laythree
No, you're getting Yooka Laylee Nuts & Bolts
K-Rez No.
Not again.
Never again.
That is the reason this game exists.
Heh eh heh.
I thought you said "Toota Laylee"
Yooka Laylee Nuts N Bolts
K-Rez I'm pretty sure the only reason they named it Yooka Laylee is so they could name the next games Twooka Laylee and Yooka Laythree.
This game's reviews is like present day Rare. Split as fuck.
That was really lame.
Dude 27th Just like present day Rare!
a trick: watch series on flixzone. Been using them for watching a lot of movies recently.
@Ameer Jase yup, I've been watching on flixzone} for years myself =)
I don't care what people say about the game not being as good as they hoped.
I just love me some platformers, period.
Nana-Kyoto WHY DO I SEE YOU EVERYWHERE!
So are you "Jiggy" with this game?
(Also yes. Im also here too.)
I know im gonna like this game!
im getting this for switch!
i've been waiting for so long for a proper banjo kazooie style game ever since gamecube and i will be anxiously awaiting playing this!
i also wanna see the 64 bits later!
i hope Playtonic can make Twooka Laylee!
Nana-Kyoto I do not understand why people are shitting on this game. This is the game they wanted.
Because it is really upsetting to see the platformer genre decline since the late 90s to early 2000s.
And platformers these days are "scarce."

The reception of this game was so baffling... 'hey do you a game we're making to be like a retro 64 game?' 'Yes! Can't wait for this!!' *game releases 'oh no we hate it because it's like a retro 64 game'
sounds about right
Or because it wasnt executed well at all . Big shocker I know.
There's a huge difference between making something retro and making a game to be exactly as it would have been in the past, flaws and all.
Generic User ya but hat in time has terrible characters design animal characters are just better then human characters
@Raspberry Razmin the fox OWO
I suppose that’s to be expected from a fox.
We are in the age of gaming where gamers yell profusely until someone yells with them and then you have a group of people yelling and it becomes obnoxious and you just want to have a normal conversation about video games.
Pixelated Dreams And comic books and politics and even some movies and shows and even novels.
pretty much that's how life has always been, it's just these days people got the internet, so you can't punish anyone and everyone can say whatever they want without consequences.
Let's throw religion and science into the mix just to complete it.
that won't be enough.
we need to add a mix of celebrities, with some racial issues.
why not add some other country's problems that we shouldn't care about as a sauce?

Don't be so surprised, Caddy. Remember, this is the same culture that ensured the creator of Fez would never share his brilliance with us every again.
Wait what? I want details.

Basically, an *extremely* vocal portion of the internet gaming community (many of which are among the same people who made a big stink over the removal of JonTron's cameo from Yooka-Laylee) took issue with some opinionated tweets he posted (mostly over his lack of a desire to make a PC port of Fez since he prefered consoles) and basically harassed him for it. Then once a "professional" journalist called him a "fucking hipster", he had a total nervous breakdown, canceled Fez 2 and shut down his studio.
@@bluedragon9925 look i get why people want a PC version but this is just excessive
The reactions over Yooka-Laylee is why I can't stand a lot of modern gamers. The gaming community as a whole is full of entitled adult children who will find any little thing to complain and bitch about. This game looks delightful and as just a nice little throwback to Banjo-Kazooie, it's not supposed to be exactly like it. Caddy's negative points about the game are pretty valid in my opinion. Glad I watched this video. Thanks, Caddy
Smooth Alastor The issue is it didn't fix the problems that were present in Banjo Kazooie
You and Leon don't seem to think outside the box and that is what makes you just as bad as those "modern gamers" and adult children... The problems that people have with this game is that doesn't fix any of the problems from those old N64 games and it just use nostalgia to gain attention. I love GTAIV, but when I take the nostalgia glasses off I can see why many people dislike the game. I overall didn't enjoy Yooka Laylee and I see it as a let down. If you guys enjoy it, great! But don't be blind and forcing opinion as fact.
lonewolf972 I have to say, you have opened my eyes a bit there.
Banjo Kazooie did not have any problems except for its camera in some rare (no pun intended ;) ) situations.
I would avoid Josh Thomas' about Yooka Laylee...

People need to calm down. Let videogames be videogames.
Nearly everything that I have read about the game, positive or negative, indicates to me that the developers delivered almost exactly what they promised. I can understand people who enjoy the formula and I can understand people who find the style dated and poorly aged, but I cannot understand people who backed the project and were disappointed by the end-result.
I did not back the game (I actually had played through Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64 recently as part of my backlog and I have had enough of that style) so I have no real personal interest, but if this game really is "bad", it is only "bad" because a significant number of people backed what was promised all along to be a "bad" game.
You can't satisfy some people sadly
compared to banjo kazooie the environments were pretty lacking in enemies and collectibles.
HoshiHearts RetroGaming But Banjo Tooie had really expansive worlds that weren't always fun to explore, even with Warp pads...
Dimensiom You sir are very neutral on Yooka Laylee... And I applaud you for that. I myself have some interest in Yooka Laylee now thanks to Gilly and Caddy, and I understand why you wouldn't be interested in it. It's nothing special or ground breaking, it's just fine.
Capital J Get the hell over it.
Thank Christ I wasn't the only one that noted the complete unnecessary backlash this game randomly got.
Gamers gotta find something to fight about on the internet.
A big part of it was because of how poorly the devs treated their fans.

Me
:) have not played it
I enjoyed it so far.
I really wanted to try it. I don't like any of the Banjo-Kazooie games ( unpopular opinion as it might be ). So does this game make it more fun?
I think the problem people had with Jim Sterlings review that it was just wasn't a very well written review in general. I mean almost half of it is just him ranting about how racist he thinks Laylee is. It probably didn't help his case much either that he isn't known for liking platformers in general
then why the fuck did he review this game if he doesn't like platformers?
Views.
he thinks laylee is racist? what about the guy from the first 2 games who was basically a mash of voodoo and various native american religions?
@TheWolfgabe
Where the hell did you get that idea? Why do you think Jim doesn’t like platformers? He liked Super Mario Odyssey and A Hat in Time just fine. And where the hell does his review mention that the game is racist, anyway?
@Celestial Vestibule I believe some developper in the Yooka-Laylee team made some racist comments or something like that. However, I'm pretty sure he was fired, and anyway, this doesn't have anything to do with the game.
For me this is a solid 7/10. My problem with Jim Sterling's review is that he gave it a 2/10. A review implies that it is worse than Mighty Number 9, with a current trend of his content being more controversial than being good gaming content.
Grow up
I think the trend is more, he states his opinion which was that he feels its a 2/10 and worse than Mighty Number 9.
PopRox He did play the disastrous launch version which I among any others Jim included hated.
TheVeryEdgyYoshi YTP So? That's still their subjective opinion
PopRox To be fair Jim Sterling hates everything. I often wonder (besides the ad revenue) why he even still plays games if he hates them so much.
My Review:
Its good even if you don't like Banjo and even better if you do.
In My Opinion
Bman that's not a review, that's a conclusion.
Bman
My review:
It's good if you've not played Banjo Kazooie
It's a lot worse if you have and also Banjo Tooie and DK64.
It suffers from the same flaws as those games made over 10 years ago.
But that's just my opinion.
apart from that, the game is solid, camera was a bitch
but I have good vibes that took laylee on Nintendo switch will be a solid experience.
which I'm double dipping, I miss these games and fuck Microsoft for ruining Rareware.
Bman I like your opinion
I was really surprised by how split the reviews for the game were. I did hear that the review copies were in a bit of a shocking state. So I'm guessing that's why some review scores were as low as 2/10. When I got my hands on it post patch on the PC it ran like a dream.
I realise the game isn't perfect and there are a few irritating things here and there. I haven't really been bothered by the voices because I've been doing a let's play so I've been talking over them. I do agree with most of the points you made though. It's a shame this game has been slammed by so many reviewers. It really did deliver what it promised in the kickstarter campaign. I think most people would like it if they gave it a chance.
I wasn't really excited when i first heard about Yooka- Laylee, but the more i see from it the more i want to play it. Thanks to your review, i will buy this game instantly when they release it on the switch.
I think they just picked bad voices for the grunts. Like...they're a fraction of a second too long between grunts, and they're (yes definitely) too loud.
I mean Undertale pulled it off with style. Admittedly it wasn't exactly the same, but it CAN be done well in the modern era.
I must be weird, because I have the exact opposite experience with the grunts. The first time I hear them, they really get on my nerves, but the more I hear them the more they grow on me.
"I know what I like and don't like in my own head, and you should too." Very true words indeed!💜
I personally don't care about the controversy Yooka-Laylee has unintentionally stirred up. I care about a developer who wants to bring that classic "Collect-a-thon" genre back into the modern world. I plan to get Yooka-Layee to show my support for the developers when I get the cash for it. But I can say, hand on heart, I love what the game has become. A charming callback to 3D platformers of the 90s
7+ million = yooka-laylee
30+ million = mighty n.9
I think yooka laylee is a pretty good game. I don't know about all of you but I enjoy these types of 3d platformer like banjo and conker and crash bandicoot. Even if you guys disagree with me, well that's okay. Everybody should be able to have their own opinions including critics and just average players.
Leave it to caddy to have a reasonable reviwe and general issuses that aren't just blind hatred.
Due to the amount of people who hated this game I was a bit hesitant on whether or not I should get it but you convinced me.
Thanks for making this Caddy. I've been hesitant to buy Yooka-Laylee because of the mixed reviews. But since you seemed to have fun with it and gave it an overall good score, I will definitely give this game a shot.

"PESKY BEE!"

I know... When I first saw his design, I thought he was an elk.
Yooka Laylee was really fun. They just weren't with the good ole boys of AAA gaming and just got shit on.
Trouble with the trolley, eh Caddy?!
XD
I'm kinda relieved that Caddy shares my opinion of Banjo Kazooie. I too remember loving the setting and the music but disliking the gameplay, and in the years since then, I've heard so many glowing reviews of the game that I thought something must have been wrong with me. So I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way.
17:56 - 19:40 Totally agreed, I threw my controller in anger on the Capital Cashino Kartos challenge.
"We don't want this!" "No one asked for this!" I'm sorry, people-who-say-this, but are you making the game? No?, then shut up.
The "no one asked for this" insult is dumb in my opinion, anyway; if it was made, then someone asked for it - the person who made it did, and got tired of waiting, so they made it themselves, and there were lots of things that we didn't ask for, that we ended up liking anyway.
6s and 7s are about what I think the game deserves. There are plenty of highs, especially for those who grew up with mascot platformers, but the lows unfortunately hit pretty hard.
Chris Chen still, 6s and 7s are pretty damn good.
+cody hines: here is the thing. a 7 from someone like caddy is not the same as a seven from other pages.
My favorite review is from an spanish page called anaitgames which gave it a 6.
The issue is that absolutely horrible games have gotten 8s and 9s from pages which gave much less to this one.
I cant forgive jim sterling's 2 for example. that review, if you have played the game, feels insulting, as half of the shit it says is just plain false. He says shit like it only looking good on static images and not while being in movement. you have to see any video to know that statement is retarded...
But what I hate the most, is that mighty no9 has a 4 there.... so you could say the page believes that mighty is twice as good as yooka...
Personally I would give it an 8/10
dunky's review was actually pretty good, that one actually felt as an issue with preference in games
Cody Hines They really aren't. Not in comparison to other games releasing as of late.
It concerns me that every review I've seen of this game devotes quite a bit of time talking about the disagreements that have happened over the game, but great review nonetheless Caddy. I felt that you were as fair and reasonable as you possibly could have been in your review. Keep up the great work. :)
Thanks for making this video. The intro needed to be said. LOL White Knights and Trolls all over the place these days!
'I don't give a flying floppy fish' is my new phrase to avoid cursing.
(I don't really mind cursing, especially if the person is still hilarious, like Caddy, but don't like to curse myself.)
Reminds me of ol' Jimmy Sterling's review of BOTW.
Except the like to dislike ratio on that game across the internet is less fractured.
People don't much like opinions in this day and age it seems
yet decides to watch and read about other people's for some reason.
Great review very fair. I don't know why but I love the sound effects in the dialogue for some reason
TBH, I think the Banjo "voices" are 100x better than the Yooka Laylee "voices"
Was what I was going to say
Then I went and watched the Banjo voices again and fuuuuuuuuuck they are only 10x better.
I have no clue about this game, but I honestly miss this type of videogame... the 3D platforming, puzzle solving, finding and unlocking stuff and secrets and it's just such a shame that people nowadays prefer mindless first person shooters that all play exactly the same
0:00 - 1:33 Caddy describes Twitter.
Glad to know you like it. Given my experiences with Spyro and Crash (never owned an N64), I've been having a blast with Yooka Laylee.
5:19 Do the characters HAVE to sound constipated?
They didn't back in Banjo-Kazooie; how did they fuck it up here?
Yeah, that was my main problem with the voices. I had no problem with noises being used as the voices as I found it quite charming in Banjo Kazooie. But so many characters in Yooka Laylee just had downright unappealing noises chosen for characters' voices (e.g. the godawful screechy noises the shopping carts made in the marsh level).
a reasonable review that had both positives AND negatives? Impossible! That's more rare than any pirate treasure
Last time I was early, Jim Sterling got the Nintendo extremists angry over a review on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and rated the game a good 7/10.
I'm just waiting for the Switch version to drop, this would be a pretty good game to kill time when I'm on the go.
I'll wait to see how the Switch version will fair.
well, at least we all can agree about one thing....
Banjo & Kazooie, Nuts & Bolts was right when they said " everyone just wants to shoot things"
22:20 Holy shit! It IS my birthday today! I don't know if he says that in all his videos, but this is the first I've watched of his.
He says in all the videos of his I've seen, but still I'm liking your comment. :)
This game is on sale right now, bundled with the sequel, currently researching if it's worth it....so far seems great
My main beef with the game was how fucked it was during initial release. While it sure wasn't as bad as the shit Bethesda pulls, "Release first, patch later" is still a fucking awful practice.
Never knew here was so much controversy and split reactions on this game :O. Me and my friends played it and loved it. Didn't expect these mixed reactions

God, such an amazing title, which I can hardly wait to play, soon! Also, whoever wants to see a Yooka-Laylee Racing, next, raise your hands!
I was about to say that looking back on it Yooka Laylee was a 9/10 then I remembered those *&^%@#$ Kartos sections.
7/10.
I actually agree with you man that Yooka Laylee at least for the PS4 was not a horrible game at all. :D
the voices from the mashed cartoon were amazing and I would have loved to see them implemented in the game instead of the silly sounds they make in the actual game. keep up the amazing vids dude. you rock.
I'm surprised you had absolutely no problems with the camera. The shoddy camera is the main reason I kept dying in this game. I hated walking through a door and having the camera facing you when you entered (so you can't see any potential cliffs or enemies that are right in front of you), multiple times I'd accidentally walk off a platform because the camera would swing around me at the wrong moment, and a couple of times the camera got stuck in a wall and I had to return to the hub world just to get unstuck.
Seeing that both the completionist and caddicaruse's review of this game I more than ever going to buy , and won't let any whiny butt hurt people stop me from doing otherwise.
MrXemrox Does this have anything to do with yooka -laylee
I'm so glad that you remained unbiased in your review Caddy, but I am curious, what didn't you care for about Banjo Kazooie? I would sincerely like to know. :D Great review!
Hmph! Pesky bee.
Thanks for this review, because what bothers me most is that the game has received hate for the worst reasons, and is good to see a fair review by someone who clearly enjoys the platformer genre, so, awesome video Caddy
I think this is the first review I have seen that didn't mention the Jontron situation. Good on you Cadd.
Yooka-Laylee colors: green and purple
Banjo-Kazooie colors: blue and red
Cycle blue and red backwards once on a color wheel; get green and purple.
And that's how colors for totally-not-the-same characters are chosen.
They waded into politics and made fans and enemies all that happened.
No, they tried to stay far away from politics which Is why they drop Jontron.
Spaghettiio Assassin The minute that stuff with Jontron happened they were in a no win situation. It’s either drop Jontron, piss off a lot of people, and get called all names under the sun or we don’t drop Jontron, piss off a lot of people, and get called all names under the sun. Although I think the game might have faired a lot better had they keep Jontron because the side that supported him was much higher than those against him and kicking him instantly soured a lot of people’s opinion of the game.
I had to rewind about thirty seconds to see what I missed after he said "flying floppy fish" because I just sat there thinking about how fucking hilarious that is and how I need to integrate it in my day to day vernacular.
yeah. the main reason why people shit on this game, is because it's just the cool thing to do.
Jim Sterling did it. Dunkey did it (because you know, Dunkey is such a renown game critic, and not at all a comedian).
The game has it's flaws and you're a fool if you deny them. But the game overall isn't so bad you need to go storming into EB asking for a refund.
Ali Kefou HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WOOOOOOOOOOW
Ali Kefou im looking for a new game atm? What game would you recommend?
@Kefou Kefak Ah, yes, a comedic children's game needed a complex plot and epic interactions with the caricature that is the villain. Yes, that makes total sense.
that's a fair enough score. I grew up and fucking loved banjo-kazooie, so I might love this game just as much. but I respect your views on this game, and appreciate the honest review! you're awesome as always Caddie!
I think the ironic thing is by making a statement and removing JonTron from the game Playtonic made things worse for themselves than if they left well enough alone. Not like most people even remembered he was in the game up until that decision anyway so it was a shot in the foot they didn't need to take in the first place.
He's a shit person and deserved having it done regardless of the subsequent fallout, honestly. The only people offended are fundamentally shitty people, so there's really no loss there.
Shar Thulovaas why are you so triggered?
And when he was in hat in time, people got mad and didn't buy the game
*yeah that makes perfect logical high sense*
Yooka laylee is a good game, people hate it because it’s not banjo and kazoie (idk if I spelled that right) I think it’s just injustice, it’s supposed to be a successor, to maybe a better game, but yooka laylee is I great game still, and I like it, but something about capital B that is just “unsettling” to me, just his voice, witch is barely a complaint. Now that I think, this comment belongs in a review, but still, yooka laylee is an EPIC game, I would recommend it!
I haven't played a collect-a-thon platform for quite some time, and this one seems decent, so I'll play it when I see it on sale.
Also, never buy into the hype, because nothing ever lives up to it.
Jane Fraser borderlands 2 and undertale
I spent so long in the swamp level trying to get some of the items up in the tree branches, and I was ultimately successful after dozens of tries of ingenuitive platforming, which was a terrific feeling of triumph. Then I discovered in the next level that I could have just saved SO LONG by just goddamn flying endlessly anywhere I damn well felt
So isn't it technically corporatist or crony capitalist bee? Seeing as the game was funded by capitalist means?
Leonidas Tullius
That's like saying critizicing the current society is hypocritical because you are a part of society. They can critizice capitalism while living through capitalist means because otherwise they would all starve.
After playing the game, I can say that I'm really enjoying it. Me personally, though (and this is me with a lot of platformers), the parts that WEREN'T platforming just wasn't as fun as everything else. Really, though, I still think it's a super-solid game.
Yeah, Jim Sterling hating a perfectly good game because it's a modern video game and it isn't like the classics they grew up with.
I think he's in a relationship with Yahtzee Croshaw or something.
Data Not Found Please Try Again YEAH HOW DARE HE HAVE A DIFFRENT OPINION THEN YOURS DAMN HIM TO HELL
Fuck off
Harry Welchman they're definitely *pounding it*

*pounding it*
Jim is a smart guy. He often bring good points and I used to follow him, but he always seem to go extreme over everything. So I left. Yahtzee however, I never understood why people like him. I tried to watch a few of he's video and they have the effect of a dementor on me.
Wait, what? His review was asserting the opposite: that it didn't improve on many of the issues he had with Banjo-Kazooie.
Data Not Found Please Try Again
What's funny is that Yahtzee had a much more fair review of YL then Jim. He actually enjoyed it, just hated the inconsistencies.
If there's a sequel, it should be called Tooka-Laylee.
1:24 A game with a fairly innocent and genuine appeal stirring up way more controversy and hatred than is necessary for seemingly little reason beyond differing opinion alone? I can't think of any other game the internet's done that to.
I mean, aside from Minecraft, Undertale, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Sonic, Smash Bros, Overwatch, League of Legends, and Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
All well received with little controversy. What controversy that existed tended to come from fringe groups. You have people pretty evenly split on YL. You have those who liked the game, those who hated it, and those who hate the devs for removing Jon. Admittedly, I fall into the 3rd group since I feel it wasn't their place to get involved in an already hazy dispute that was already forgotten about by most people when they decided to pull him. That's not tos say they did anything illegal, in case anyone wants to comment about "Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences".
I didn't like this game nearly as much as Banjo, but the thing that bothered me most is that YOOKA HAS TWO TONGUES

Oh. Umm.
Did you take a wrong turn at Albuquerque?
One thing that confused me on this one was that the last Banjo Kazooie game was nine years ago, not two-decades. Unless you just aren't counting Nuts and Bolts? Or I missed something as I am prone to do. Personally, I don't care for how the devs handled some things, but it is so nice and refreshing to see an honest, good, and unbiased review.
It's a very pretty game with great tunes and I wouldn't be surprised if they made a sequel.
I was excited for it, a little annoyed with Jim Sterlings review (2/10 still seems like an attention grab) and generally hyped for more platformers after R&C remake.
I was let down particularly with the levels they were two big, boring and hard to traverse. Collectibles didn't lead anywhere usually they were just randomly thrown about
I've been waiting for this review specifically for such a long time. Caddy being my go-to platformer game guy I've been dying to hear his opinion on this compared to the really good platformers he likes from the 90s!
Thanks for doing the video despite the weird shit-storm surrounding the game, Caddy.
