    Hey Scott, wow it's crazy you are standing next to a floating camera! Then i realized it was on a camouflaged tripod, the camo, works really well.... lol
    Ok all joking aside its great looking and priced well for the set. Greg

      No, that was the new α9 drone edition. It's impressive how it manages to deal with the torque from the weight of that long lens!

    I have a sirui monopod which is a good piece of equipment. I also bought at 50% discount a rollei carbon fiber tripod that nobody ever talks about at an insane price after seeing a wildlife photographer use it. I have no doubt that this is ideal for wildlife photography but these prices are simply insane.

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Good stuff. I always say that its rare to find the perfect gear in photography. There's usually some compromise, whether that is the specification, quality or cost. But at least someone has put some thought in to what the wildlife photographers need here. Usually tripods are designed for landscape photographers and sold to wildlife photographers as an afterthought. Thanks for watching.

    I rarely use a tripod so never had put much thought into it. but damn, there is some cool stuff on tripods nowadays. I should look into it a bit more.

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  Před 9 měsíci +1

      There is indeed. I didn't used to like using them, I often thought they got in the way, but then I realised that by having the camera steady I could get my shutter speed right down and I've loved using tripods ever since. Thanks for watching.

    thanks for the review ! is this tripod really sturdy for serious video work? i'm hesitating between this one and the sirui svt75 which is a video tripod, a genius mechanism but it's way heavier, but possibly sturdier. Thanks !

    On the technical side. Is the Gimbal movement metal on metal or does it use ball bearings. That is the difference between a low end retail piece and a real professional piece.

    Hi Scott, I just saw one of your videos where you teach how to set up a humble head and you were using a kenro heavy duty carbon fibre tripod, I’m able to pick one up for a great deal and was hoping you’d give some words on your experience with it and if it’s worth it . Many thanks

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  Před 8 měsíci

      Hi. It’s great, I’ve been using it since 2019 up until I got the new gimbal head you saw in this video. It has worked great the whole time and is just as good as when I got it back in 2019. I’ve got no issues at all in recommending the Kenro gimbal head. My new Sirui one is slightly lighter, and obviously has the benefits of being camouflaged, but if you can pick up the Kenro one for a great price, go for it. You won’t regret it.

    What would be the main diffrences between side mounted and L-mounted positions?

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Sorry for the delay in replying. The side mounted gimbal is becoming more popular because it is lighter. However, in my experience (and I've tried a few side-mounted gimbals now) the L-shaped ones move more smoothly. So I tend to prefer the L shaped gimbals but I take the side mounted one out if ever I have to walk a long way with a lot of kit. Thanks for the question and for watching.

  • @guitaristwagner
    @guitaristwagner Před 9 měsíci +1

    Would you recommend a gimbal head for video?

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Generally no. Gimbal heads are great to photograph fast moving action, or to get the shutter speed down for non-moving shots. They keep your camera relatively steady whilst offering no resistance to movement. But that means they are generally not steady enough for video. With video you want a bit of resistance - so a video fluid head is much better. However, I use my gimbal head for video because I'm not going to carry around both types of head. The footage I shot of the large numbers of waders flying in my last video was all done on a gimbal head. So if you're doing both photos and video you might be fine with just a gimbal head. I hope that helps and thanks for watching.

    Is there any benefit of side mounting?

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Hi. The main benefit is that it’s lighter, because there are less metal parts that you’re carrying around. Other than that, it pretty much works the same. Some people prefer the traditional set up though, just because it’s what they’re used to. Thanks for watching.

    Tame stags that don't bolt .
    You crack me up with you try hard upsell patter

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  Před 9 měsíci +3

      Firstly - stags never bolt during the rutting season - they stick to where the hinds are. They’ve put in a lot of work to gather up the hinds - why would they leave them? What cracks me up is that you think that was a hard sell. I’ve explained a few product features and at no point did I tell anyone to buy it. It’s not selling at all. Go to a car dealership and then you’ll experience hard selling. Thanks for watching anyway.
