Not only does this work delightfully well on the celesta, the interpretation is phenomenally good. Claire de Lune is overplayed as hell, but this performance immediately made my ears prick up. It's not often that I decide I love an interpretation this much on the very first listening. How you only have 200-some subs is beyond my comprehension. You sure have mine.
Celesta is so underrated. Celesta, glockenspiel, vibraphone, and pianos can come together to form the brightest and most beautiful timbres. Like twinkling stars. Wonderful performance
Oh my lord, this is gorgeous, and a wonderful example of what this instrument is capable of. It's a crime that this instrument isn't given more widespread attention and love. Thank you for doing it more than justice.
I agree 100% and then some. I would love to be able to play one if I can even find one. I love the overtones and harmonics I hear in this piece. I wonder what Ravel's piece "Mirrors" would sound like on this instrument also Debussy's Reflections. Thanks for posting. 73

Up until today, the number 1 thing could move me to tears was Morgan Freeman's goodbye letter in The Bucket List (2007). Now that I've heard Clair de Lune on the Celesta, this trumps it. I grew up hearing Clair de Lune in shows like Ren & Stimpy and the deleted scene from Fantasia (1940), but never have I heard it this beautifully rendered until today. Wow.

Goosebumps all over, tears in my eyes - this makes me feel ALL the feelings. My two year old is obsessed with ballet and most of all the sugarplum fairy, which made me search for more about the celesta, which made me think that someone might have played Debussy on a celesta, which braught me here, which was exactly what I needed. I played the celesta during our community orchestra concert on Holst’s The Planets and I was so fascinated by how beautiful the instrument is (I’m a percussionist with piano background). After the concert, the only question I wanted to ask was when would be the next time I would have the opportunity to play the celesta ❤. This was the most beautiful interpretation I’ve ever heard of Clair de Lune, sounds so beautiful and magical ❤😊.
I think a violin/viola/cello/contrabass background would work amazing in this. I would love to hear flying violin trilling (tremolo for them?) in the background of the beginning really subtle and quiet. This also happens to be the same light snowflake instrument for Nutcrackers most famous melody, Dance of the Sugar plum fairy 🍬.

That's interesting the Key tops are Black & White Plastic like many Pianos made today. They used to be Ivory & Ebony but nobody uses that material anymore as they've since banned that to protect Elephants & Ebony Trees. Of course the Celesta is actually a Keyboard Metallophone. It's basically a Metallophone (Basically a Xylophone w/ Metal Bars rather than Wooden ones) played by a Keyboard that's akin to a Piano Keyboard, & the Bars are Struck by Felt Piano Hammers.

1:06 The Celesta is velocity sensitive in its Dyanmics like the Piano cause the action in a Celesta is very akin to a Grand Piano action, only that the Felt Hammers (same as a Piano) point downwards instead of Upwards.

@@celiagarciagarcia I had an idea for a Non-Transposing version of this instrument, the "Basso-Tenor Celesta" which speaks an Octave below the Regular Celesta because the Bars have Extra Weights attached to them which makes them twice as heavy so they speak an Octave below normal pitch.
@@celiagarciagarcia I also wanted a version that has 108 keys like a Stuart & Sons 108 Key Piano, it's 9 Octaves so they'll be arranged in to 9 sets of 12, which I call the "Pianolesta" cause it's an Extended Range Celesta. Fun fact the Electric Piano that Rhodes Made is really an Electric Dulcitone, rather than replace the Tuning Forks with Glockenspiel Bars (which are more expressive in their Dynamics) they simply added pickups to them.
This is one of those ocations where I can't describe in words how beautiful and inmersefull something is... is like the sound the silence makes when you find yourself in a magic moment or with somebody that makes that sweetest melody sound in the silence. So, I guess I'll leave it in silence, since I haven't really said nothing =J By the way, thank you, you play amazingly!

That's interesting the Key tops are Black & White Plastic like many Pianos made today. They used to be Ivory & Ebony but nobody uses that material anymore as they've since banned that to protect Elephants & Ebony Trees. Of course the Celesta is actually a Keyboard Metallophone. It's basically a Metallophone (Basically a Xylophone w/ Metal Bars rather than Wooden ones) played by a Keyboard that's akin to a Piano Keyboard, & the Bars are Struck by Felt Piano Hammers.

I'm gonna assume this is a very soft instrument, the sort of shine in a more intimate setting.
It can be rather soft but also very strident in the high register if you play very loud. 🙂

1:06 The Celesta is velocity sensitive in its Dyanmics like the Piano cause the action in a Celesta is very akin to a Grand Piano action, only that the Felt Hammers (same as a Piano) point downwards instead of Upwards.

That’s right! The celesta is a transposing instrument, it sounds one octave higher than written.
@@celiagarciagarcia I had an idea for a Non-Transposing version of this instrument, the "Basso-Tenor Celesta" which speaks an Octave below the Regular Celesta because the Bars have Extra Weights attached to them which makes them twice as heavy so they speak an Octave below normal pitch.
Wonderful idea. I love the low register of the celesta!
@@celiagarciagarcia I also wanted a version that has 108 keys like a Stuart & Sons 108 Key Piano, it's 9 Octaves so they'll be arranged in to 9 sets of 12, which I call the "Pianolesta" cause it's an Extended Range Celesta. Fun fact the Electric Piano that Rhodes Made is really an Electric Dulcitone, rather than replace the Tuning Forks with Glockenspiel Bars (which are more expressive in their Dynamics) they simply added pickups to them.
This is one of those ocations where I can't describe in words how beautiful and inmersefull something is... is like the sound the silence makes when you find yourself in a magic moment or with somebody that makes that sweetest melody sound in the silence.
So, I guess I'll leave it in silence, since I haven't really said nothing =J
