    About:
This is the 3rd of a 21 stage tour a new bike , like the Tour de France. I point out what the manufacturers didn't do when it was built. Focusing on a lack of grease in the bottom bracket and severe consequences of no maintenance. I'll show you how to give your bottom bracket years of extra life and it will only take you 15 minutes. This will also stop much bigger problems in the future. Each video shows a different problem and how to sort it out without completely pulling the bike apart.

I'm intrigued by your choice of grease. If that Comma bearing stuff is good, I'll get a tub. Probably cheaper than something marketed for cycling too. I did my first wheel axle replacement the other day and the grease that came with the parts was the white stuff. 😂

Having used many different greases for 20 years, I've used this for the following 20 years. Super waterproof. not sticky and defo cheaper! We call the white stuff moisturiser...

@@bicycleguruDo you use anti-seize paste/grease anywhere in your process?

@@caheruane Good question! Generally, I would only use copper grease (anti seize) on titanium interfaces. The caveat, only do that the first time I fit something to a relatively new customer's bike if the manufacturer of the frame or component states requirement. After that washes out and I get the bike back I revert to the stuff that works.
To give you some sort of relevance I have a 500 gram tub still 1/3 full purchased over 20 years ago. The grease I use for everything you may have seen in the videos gets consumed at a rate of 3-5 kilos a year. Having said that, I would have heaps more copper grease left in the tub if it wasn't for use on a particular part fitment. I am not going to divulge that right now as it is coming up in one of the later stages and is a super top tip.
If you fancy a poke around, it is in at least 2 other videos I have done before...

If you haven't ridden up a river on a bike, you haven't lived! They do put salt on the roads in the UK in winter when it's icy. If you take a good look at the left bottom bracket cup in the intro you'll see, apart from the crud in the bearing, the cup itself has suffered from galvanic corrosion too. If you want a better look I can post some pics on the community tab...

This is exactly the way I do my BBs.
I own two Shimano XT BB, one for winter, and one for the rest of the year.
Winter one is just older, no play, but squeaks.
My BBs do last easily 5x more than typical pressfit.
Black Belt stuff right there, learn little fucks 🤙
Also, edit: remember, if the cups are in good shape, you could swap bearings at least once or twice.
    Endless BB bug exploit.
