Missing Jamal, yes, but Porter too, who finished the Phoenix series needing back surgery and missed the Warriors series. So not just your second guy...also the third. That is not counting the injuries to Morris, Barton and Dozier, all rotation players at the time. So, more accurately, Jokić only had one starter with him in those.

Embiid is more part of the NBA in crowd. Plus he is so much more vocal and attention demanding kind of "look at me I'm so great" personality that gets rewarded in our media culture.
Jokic already has 2 MVP's and the media were reluctant to give him a 3rd.
Giannis was injured towards the end of the season.
There is a narrative on Embiid that he was previously robbed of the MVP trophy. Also he plays both ends of the floor and the narrative is Jokic doesn't.
Personally, I think the Nuggets would be a lottery team without Jokic. Also, I don't rate Mike Malone - he talks a good game but is dreadful during them.

Jokic is this big, clunky white buy who looks like anything but a basketball player (other than he's 7 feet tall). However, somehow, this guy is poetry in motion on the basketball court. He is actually smooth and moves well and has a delicate touch on his shots and passes. He seems like a reasonably intelligent guy, but then you see what he does on the court and you see a savant. He sees it all, sees things before they are going to happen and doesn't make mistakes.

I hate when people mention Jokic didn't have Murray those two post seasons after the Bubble. Jokic can overcome not having Murray at least to the Conference Finals, he showed that many times by dragging his team to the playoffs and high seed without Murray, he's that good and impactful, but the truth is he was missing half of his starters and half of his bench players both of those post seasons after the Bubble and no player ever can overcome missing half of his team in playoffs. Jokic even won a first round against loaded Portland with historically great Lillard even though Nuggets had no business winning that series either with the trash team they had. That first post season after Bubble Nuggets were missing so many players due to injury that they had to sign Austin Rivers on a 10-day contract before the playoff and then extend his contract for the playoffs. They were missing Murray, Gary Harris, Barton and Porter Jr played with strong back pain, so basically all Nuggets starters were missing or not 100% healthy. Barton came back for the last 3 post post season games in round 2 after few months of injury recovery, but was a shell of himself. And then the only two valuable bench players they had Monte Morris and Dozier were injured too (plus some other less important bench players). So basically Jokic played with Austin Rivers, 5"7 third string point guard Campazzo and Porter Jr with back pain against Booker, Paul when he was still an All-Star caliber player, Bridges and Ayton who was still solid at that time. And then post season after that he played without Murray and Porter Jr against GSW who were so loaded that they won the championship. Jokic lost 2 seasons of his life being the best player in NBA and having record PER both those season, but had such trash rosters that he had to lose early in the playoffs just as any superstar in history of NBA would lose with those rosters.

Jokic is a good role model for anyone picked outside of the top 10, even into the 2nd round. He worked his tail off to get into the best shape he can, he learned the fundementals of the game from footwork up to schemes, and he is a 2 time MVP winner with a chance to win his first title and cement himself as one of the best centers to ever touch a basketball.
For the same reasons he's a great rolemodel for kids who normally see diva superstars in sports. Jokic is one of a kind, and we are blessed in Denver to have watched him for years growing up.
Jokic has always been unreal.. His playoff failures if you can call them that were not only due to Murray being injured but every team that beat him has made the finals and 2/3 teams won the finals..
2020- Lost to lakers who won the finals
2021- Lost to suns who played the bucks in finals
2022- Lost to warriors who won the finals

He was missing his best teammate last 2 years (Murray) and MP Jr last year too! He’s also never played with any other All NBA, All Def, All Rookie, All Star, elite coach, great bench which is rare for someone as great as him.
Whenever he’s had a healthy Murray they’ve made game 7 WCSF, WCF WCF. He’s made WCF twice and lost in first round only once.

What's really hard is people placing Jokic as the best Center to play the game. I mean that's tough for me to even say. He isn't athletic by no means but beating you with peer skill. Doing it night to night WHILE making his teammate better. Placing them in positions to score and succeed. Most unselfish basketball and peer beauty to watch. If Jokić had a defined muscular physique, nobody would hate on him/ down play him. The media has portrayed the notion that he’s just some fat, awkward mix white guy who isn’t all that some think he is. The dude has next level basketball IQ, god tier passer, can score on anybody, gets virtually anything he wants at all time, and just dominates. But, because he’s a white dude with a soft build, who isn’t all in your face, jumping out of the gym, his pure dominance, IQ, and the way he gets his teammates involved every night gets downplayed to the max.
