Dreamcatcher is one of unconventional K-Pop group out there. Which mean, they're not a typical K-pop group & have their own distinct sound, style & theme. Dreamcatcher's music style tend to be more Rock & Metal. But their discography actually diverse.
Their own sound that is SO distinct that they are basically their own genre. AWESOME! Hard workers and real sweethearts. :)
Dreamcatcher is a group with a large international fandom outside Korea. Lately they've been also having a greater success domestically. Their unique style of blending K-Pop with Rock, EDM and Metal creates an original sound that's unmistakably Dreamcatcher. They're also incredible performers onstage, with an outstanding stage presence, amazing vocals and impeccable choreos. They regularly perform around the World, and go on World Tours. But the best thing about them is their duality. They are beautiful untouchable Goddesses onstage and such funny likable dorks offstage, 7 sisters who genuinely care and love each other.
Dreamcatcher are a group that always have a concept, at least for their main single with MVs. The concept for this song is: Villians! It also makes lots of allusions to the way idols and celebrities in general present an image that has been edited and photoshopped to look perfect and flawless. I've heard they wanted to do a sexy concept because they usually go for more dark and elegant... But the eldest members turn thirty this year and even if they shouldn't feel this way... Beauty standards being what they are, they don't want to be "too late" and miss out.
There are plenty more details to pick up on rewatches for this one too.
If you want to give dreamcatcher another listen, I recommend 'Boca', I think it's their biggest hit on CZcams and for good reason. Alternately, 'Piri' is the song that made me fall in love with them, and I think many fans would consider 'Deja Vu' to be one of their masterpieces. But honestly you could probably pick anything.
Their main singles all have some level of rock influence. The rest of their tracks span a large variety of genres and sounds so we often say they have something for everyone

It's good to get into dreamcatchers.
There is absolutely nothing to regret.
They have incredibly attractive and wonderful songs.
Also, there are so many albums that have been released so far.
They are a unique group in the K-pop scene.
I've seen you react to some metal songs before, so if you're looking for something along those lines within kpop then Dreamcatcher is the right place to start, haha. A lot of the fandom are metalheads, and are on the older side. So people are pretty mature and understanding for the most part. Dont hesitate on asking questions! OOTD is definitely one of their less metal/rock focused title tracks; I'd recommend checking out Odd Eye and Vision however there are a couple of story lines in their music videos. So watching the music videos in order is recommended if you want to follow the story.. Totally up to you!

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉
At first glance you could think this is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. The album is called VersuS VillainS, which makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe it's about useless instagram influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion.
The fact that fashion is moving ever faster makes it the most destructive industry to the planet only outdone by the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up.
The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra (arch enemy backwards) account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback.
It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song. And Handong standing in front of the camera with bruises all over her legs seems to be a comment on the merciless industry as well.
The music is highly interesting as well. The Rock is dirty and distorted. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is funk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

ootd is a bit atypical for dreamcatcher. the girl crush concept and flexing lyrics is what's popular in kpop nowadays but it's not what dreamcatcher has ever done before because they never follow the trend. combined with the 4th wall imagery, it's meant to be satire on the entertainment industry and how society over-emphasizes beauty which is a bit more extreme in south korea. so in a sense, they are poking fun at kpop. I don't want to get too deep since it will just fly over your head lol, but if you keep this in mind, the lyrics, imagery and how they contradict each other might make more sense.
dreamcatcher is somewhat of a black sheep in kpop. their sound is generally not what you hear in kpop since they infuse a lot of rock/metal instrumentation which is actually not popular in south korea. their lyrics are also atypical in the sense many of their songs are inspirational while adding social commentary. that's why the lyrics in ootd are so over the top, but it's common in a lot of kpop groups and perhaps in mainstream music.

Since they are more of a rock group, they have more international fans, since they go on world tours a lot, which is why, i think, their songs (along with other groups as well) include english in their songs so more international fans can sing along to them.

(includes songs: Chase Me (debut), Goodnight, Fly High (the MV is a prequel to the first two songs), You and I, What, and Piri. The lore is that each one of the members represent a different type of nightmare and they try to escape it)
Dystopia trilogy: (about cyberbullying and standing up to it)
-songs are (in order): Scream, Boca (which is "mouth" in spanish), and Odd Eye
Then the Apocalypse trilogy (which ended before OOTD came out, and its about saving the planet which we call home, climate change, global warming, things like that)
-Songs are (in order): Maison (French for "Home"), Vision, and Bon Voyage

This song has more English in it than many of their typical songs, though OOTD and this whole comeback was more experimental than normal. Also, creepy and weird is part of Dreamcatcher's core concept. They have a lot of horror themes and motifs spread throughout many of their MVs, specifically their Nightmare series and the song BEcause. Dreamcatcher always have rock instrumentation in their title tracks and were dubbed the "Face of Rock in K-Pop" by Rolling Stone India. They were also the first K-Pop act to be invited to one of the largest rock festivals in the world, Primavera Sound, in Spain. Sometimes their rock instrumentation is really pronounced and other times it's less so. OOTD, for example, has Industrial rock influences with the heavily distorted guitars, but it's not as pronounced as some of their other title tracks. Their b-sides through span dozens of genres and sub-genres including R&B, EDM, Trap, Trance, Reggae, Jazz, Funk, Rock, Metal, Pop, and more. They just celebrated their 7th year anniversary in January and had previously re-signed their contracts to continue on as Dreamcatcher for several more years.
- OOTD Explainer -
OOTD appears to have at least 3 layers to it. Layer one is the surface layer. This is a flex song that, on first listen, sounds fun and empowering. However, if you really dig into the MV and the lyrics you see that's it's much more than that, which is where layer two comes in.
Layer two is that the MV and the lyrics are critiques of the current state of the industry and the types of songs that have become so popular over the last several years. Everything in the MV is curated and edited to look perfect. The manufactured drama between idols that’s prevalent but behind the scenes they are friends and care about each other. Gahyeon is used to promote products in a store. Jiu is a literal product in packaging, all while telling you she's Venus and Nephthys and to call her a goddess. Venus, being the roman god of love and Nephthys being one of the Egyptian gods of death. Handong has what looks like horrible bruising on her legs, but the upper half of her body looks perfect signifying the physical damage and trauma that idols endure and that it's often hidden from the public. There's more in the MV but these are the things that stood out to me initially.
The third layer is the story layer that's tied to this new Versus Duology. You may have noticed the references to a Crown in the MV as well as the text that was popping up in certain areas about the Crown. These references are related to the Alternate Reality Game (ARG) that DCC used to promote the album during the month leading up to release. About a month before the MV dropped the user ymenehcra (Arch Enemy backwards) popped up on twitter and was tied to the first comeback teasers. Since then, they’ve been tweeting their experiences and leaving cryptic messages on Dreamcatcher’s CZcams videos. The messages dealt with an obsession with finding the crown. The user has also experienced blackouts and memory loss during this time frame. Since the MV dropped there have been more clues found including audio files of the Dreamcatcher members discussing their 100th and final victim in their quest for the Crown. That final victim is Shasha, who is the person in the MV, who was sacrificed at the end when Jiu places the crown on her head. Also, there are creepy clues in the albums including hidden messages from previous victims that read like something from a horror movie.
They've really gone all out on this comeback and the lore surrounding the first album is crazy. This is the first time they've been so overt with the lore outside of the MVs. I'm really looking forward to how all of this is going to wrap up. Siyeon said that we wouldn't fully understand the concept until the second part drops.

Dreamcatcher has been doing this for a long time….they just celebrated their 7th year anniversary, and it doesn’t look like they are anywhere near done. OOTD isn’t the best gauge for their sound, as their core sound is more rock based. As an InSomnia myself, I of course would be thrilled if you looked into more of their music. If you don’t one style, don’t worry, you are bound to find something you will like. Especially in their b sides, they tend to genre hop. Jiu, the leader of the group, had once described Dreamcatcher as a black hole; once you fall in you can’t get out. I can attest to this. I still haven’t left, lol, and it’s been a few years now. Dont worry abt speaking out your feeling for the music, insomnia are generally quite mature ( of course there are always bad apples, but i dont really see them in reaction channel). Tbh when ootd just drop, it took me a few listen to vibe to the “talking” part of the chorus, usually not my preference, but after a few more, i am cool with it. Still love the song and would actually find the song and play it. Looking forward to see more reaction on dreamcatcher in the future😁

Korean and Japanese are absolutely not derivatives of Mandarin. Their sentence structures, grammar, and sounds are completely different. All three countries have used the Chinese written words (hanzi), but it's in the past for Korea, and a remix in Japan (kanji is used with hiragana). Many Chinese languages also use hanzi while not being Mandarin. Think of it more like as the Latin alphabet, different European languages use variants of the Latin alphabet even if they're totally different from one another.

Dreamcatcher is a 7 yo girl group, mostly known for their rock sound : actually they have always incorporated rock and/or metal in their title tracks. Think J-Rock, or "anime-like songs". But their discography is very very diverse genre wise, and if you happen to really like them and want to hear more of them, don't hesitate and go for it!
OOTD is their last mini album title track, it's the first part of a duology, and it was a bit divisive for the fandom.
Other InSomnia (fandom name) will probably copy you some walls of text, explaining giving you all the explanations and information you want (and even more).
So the only thing that I'll say is that since you you describe yourself as "a variety streamer that specializes in horror, comfy games, and everything in between!", you should have reacted to their debut song "Chase Me". That's what I'd recommand when you'll decide to react to them again.

I completely agree with 'Chase Me'. I always love to start reactors from the beginnings of the groups' careers. It makes no sense to start reading a book from the last chapter or anywhere in the middle of the book. Why start reacting to groups from the middle or end? Always start from the beginning. If she does all their songs/ MVs in order, I bet she falls completely in love with them before she gets to 'Deja Vu'.

Nightmare series, starting with "Chase me" can be awesome. If not, check the guide from 2021/2022. A bit outdated but the best out there imo. The guide dont include just the members. But tons of content u can check to know them better and know what u should check after.

The videos are cool but I love the live/performance videos the most. I highly recommend watching Red Sun, Demian and Shatter performance videos to get a real feel for how impressive these ladies are!
