- Axis and Pearl pedals in this video showing bass drum double strokes. I show my settings and my technique.
This is also called heel toe and is great for playing fast metal or death metal.
Check out my other videos for drum tutorials and how to videos on things like rudiments, fills, solos and other lessons.

Seen a dozen videos on fast double bass. This is the bees knees! The daddy! Easily the fastest and most effective technique I've seen. Thank you sir. Clear. Informative. everything you need to be a flash foot man! That's me for the next month!
Thanks buddy. Happy you enjoyed it.
@@beyondbetrayal Hmm i took your advice and loosened the spring a bit can play 20bpm faster now - interesting..just need to clean up the miss hits now.
@@drummonkeystuffuk1875 very cool!!! It's all about the settings, once they are dialed in, it's funny how easy heel toe is really. i find the tight head with a stuffed drum really makes it trigger accurate though.
Heel toe yeah
Best tutorial on youtube.
+dulsrules thanks a bunch :)
I have seen many videos of heel toe and after a year later I found this video you are my hero. Never did I think I would find this video thank you so much!
Samuel Santiago thanks for the kind words. I have a few on my channel. subscribe to me because I'm going to make more vids asap
beyondbetrayal also a question does this work also on dw pedal (chain pedals)?
Samuel Santiago it is much easier with direct drive. it should work with chins if you set them up right though
I have never tried it. It will probibly work just maybe not as fast. It's a combination of the direct drive, settings, and longboards. But essentially a pedal is a pedal. You just need to angle your foot a bit more on a short board also.. I need someone to send me some pedals to try it on haha.
Best video I've seen on this topic. THANKS!
Your video has helped me immensely, I can't thank you enough dude, you legend!!!
NO, Thank you for watching and commenting :). That is the reason I do this. Make sure to subscribe and I will make more soon.
This is the best video on heel-toe ever. Thank you!
Marvelous man! Thanks and merry christmas
brilliant video.best one on the net.thank you.
Man. Thanks a bunch. I'm going to try a bunch more soon when my camera comes back from being repaired so make sure to sub
...this is by far the most helpful video I've seen anywhere on double bass technique!!
I appreciate that comment thanks for saying that. Make sure to sub and like my stuff. I'll try and make more in the future.
Great video! You explain it perfectly and very clear. Thanks!
As always great videos, i use this exact technique with my Trick Pro V-1s with vruk attachments. Keep the videos coming they are really well done and great help for many drummers. :)
This is a great explanation!-I feel like I might actually get it after trying for years!
Love this info! Great job! and thanks!
i can´t remember when i ever have commented on a video but i just wanted to do it this time to say thank you for your videos. especially this one was very helpful. thank you for doing these.
Right on man. Thanks for the comment. I'll try and make more vids soon. I got a new camera and a some new gear to play with too.
Very good job. One of the best I have ever seen. Thank you.
Thanks for watching
Watched Virgil Donati do his pioneering of the double bass double stroke technique on VHS in the 90’s and drooled thinking it’s impossible until this video ... this is the ultimate lesson !!!
I just started this technique and thanks so much for making this video it really helped me out a lot
Glad it helped!
Im trying this ASAP!!! Thanks mate
I go for the same setting. It took me a long time but 2 years ago I'd come up with the same setting as yours. I had to take apart my DW9000 pedal just to get it to go super low like you were talking about. It feels much better like that and has increased my speed.
right on man. I find that is the best for doubles, but it makes it tougher when doing single pedal stuff as i like higher spring tension for that... A constant battle haha
Excellent video! Thank you!
Great video very informative, interesting to see the different ways of how heel-toe can be done obviously depending on the individuals preference, physiology, equipment etc.Very very similar pedal setup, low foot board beater still far enough for some power.
Good informative video. Really like your kit too. Pearl MMX in diamond burst was my dream kit when it came out.
Recently found your channel and glad that I did. Subbed. Killer video, great technique and you're a great teacher. Thanks
Thanks for watching buddy!
I love the fact that you also went into how the settings on the pedal can make a difference. Even kick drum skin tension. This is by far crucial information that is not mentioned by many other drummers explain the technique. Though everyone's settings will differ to their own, it is good that it should be utilized.
It's something I have stuggled with to get greater speed, but I can only do 240 at single strokes now.
I will look into pedal tunage so to speak.
The settings make all the difference in the world.
I find if my settings are dialed in right I can play much faster and tighter. I am starting to tighten my springs a bit more as it makes me more consistent but I have to work harder for the speed. Don't neglect the single strokes if you do this. It's much to easy to just play doubles and then after a year your singles suffer.
I don’t know why it took me so long to try the things you talkes about in this video but i’m glad I did! Usually these kind of tutorial videos don’t do anything for my playing but this one actually helped. I tried the technique, moved my beaters closer to the head but couldn’t get it down well enough. And just now I thought maybe loosening the springs just a few turns and then something just klicked. I was able to play pretty fast doubles on my roland k-120 with my axis longboards. I’m not quite there yet with the second stroke of the double because I would like it to be just a little bit louder when i take my headphones off and listen to just the sound the pad makes, but for the first time in my life I am able to play heel toe doubles with ease. Thank you for that!
Nice job describing your technique and how to apply it on different pedals.
Wow, really awesome bro! Very helpful!
Just AMAZING!!!
Amazeballs here wowzers!🤩
AWESOME! Thanks so much!
Nice tutorial man, thanks!
you broke the down perfect ! you are a natural teacher .
Thanks!
make it look so easy but I tried it bad ass bro thank you now to find some good effect fuor triggers
Good luck man. the settings of your pedals make the difference.
Thanx for this really good Video. Perfect explained, Dude ❗❗❗🙂
Glad it helped!
Very useful video :) thx
Very informative! Thanks!
I need to learn this technique !! slowly but surely !!
Stop!!! It's amazing bro!!!!!
Grazie beyondbetrayal, il tuo video mi è stato molto utile, molto chiaro... grande Maestro!!!!
ciao
Holy shit, Ridiculously smooth doubles
Hey man. Your video was great. I've seen many videos on double strokes but none showed the pearl pedals (which I just got a few days ago) and for some reason, heel toe just never clicked for me. Then I saw your video and I got it almost instantly. One thing I have to say though, which is 100% personal preference of course, is I actually have the footboard decently high on my pedals. I learned to do it like that because surprisingly I can get very fast with it and I don't have a kick trigger st the moment so it has great power. Again, thanks so much for your vid man. I love your videos. They always explain everything so well!
Awesome man. Comments like this is why I post videos.. I don't get paid or free gear or anything lol. Ya you can get more power with higher pedals or the beaters further back.. Once you have triggers i like the pedals lower for speed but its personal preference for sure!
beyondbetrayal Hell yea man keep up the great work 🤘 stoked for your videos to com 😁
beyondbetrayal And it's even more impressive that you don't get any of that stuff for free. Fellow drummers gotta help each other out haha 👍
I'm not saying that I WOULDN"T take free gear haha. Although there is a few companies that I will remain loyal too for life. Sometimes you have to pay for quality and that is just how it is.
great TUTORIAL!!!
Hey man! Thx for this vid. I tried the pedal settings on my Axis pedals and noticed a big difference doing the heel toe. Also these settings helped me to practice the swivel technique!
Awesome man. Happy to hear!! I'll try and make some more with my A21's soon.
A perfect description!
BEAUTIFUL
I agree with many others, this is one of the very best videos dealing with this subject. The level of specificity & detail in terms of things you have tried, and why you have the settings you do is really, really useful (e.g., using the batter head rebound to allow for a looser spring tension). The whole pedal board height explanation & variations on foot placement was also very helpful. Also, thanks for explaining WHY you got to these settings & techniques vs simply, “Here are my settings. Yours may vary.”
Any time man. I teach how I would like someone to explain it to me :)
Great tutorial dude!
I've hit a wall on my speed. For my band, I don't need the constant, fast DB but I do need short bursts in complex patterns. Some placements of fast rolls come very easily to me but certain roll timings are very hard to get at the 1/32nd note ratio I want.
I plan on practicing this method to see if I can employ it in complex patterns without completely wearing myself out.
Thanks man. You're a lifesaver!
I will often just do it on +he right foot and singles on the left.. so it's almost a gallop, or a 1 e and 2 e + 3 e + if you get that. But really fast :) or you can do doubles on the left and singles on the right for 1 +a 2 +a 3 +a .. I mostly do this and runs of 16ths but you could put them in elsewhere. Good luck.
How did it work out?
Dude. This video helped me a lot thank your
Thanks for watching. Sub to my channel as I might do another one in the future with my new pedal and with a few different settings and adjustments
very impressive techinique. thanks for share it
Thanks for watching. Sub/like and I'll try and make a few more soon.
Big help for a beginner like me. Thank you very much
Thanks for watching
Very helpful info! Thanks!

beyondbetrayal. Thank you so much. I've watched your videos before, along with a thousand others, but couldn't make the connection. Finally I have it now. You put a link on the drummer world forum the other day, and I clicked it and watched it again. The next time I sat down on my kit, I tried it, and I can get the doubles with my heel off of the pedal. Recently I've playing up high on the foot board, actually using my heel for the first hit. That worked but not as I'd like it too. I got a good trigger today (finally) and I think I'm gonna get the heel toe fast metal drumming going. I can only do it for a short run, but I can tell this is gonna work. I tried adjusting my pedal like you suggested, but I didn't like it. As I learn the technique, your settings suggestions might be helpful. This just my second time working on this technique like you demonstrated it. Thanks again.
you just made my day man. if you have any questions let me know. glad I could help. once you get it it's easy
Dude that amazing!
haha thanks man
Yes I agree - one of the best tuition videos on double-bass pedal drumming I have seen. I thought I had the technique so it was reassuring to know that my pedals are not set up right, particularly my beaters sitting back 45 degrees.
Thanks a bunch. I am actually in the process of moving mine back, but just remember the further back they are the more spring tension their will be at impact. beater distance, spring tension, and head tension all play a big part in this.
Really an excellent tutorial.
ty
ヤバい!That's awesome. I'm motivated. I `ll stick it!
You can do it!
@@beyondbetrayal Thank you!
Best example I've seen of this yet. I'll be using this technique somewhere in church by the end of the summer 😂 Seriously.
Awesome. !!!
Nice and clean :) killer video
David McGraw Thanks man. You are a wicked drummer. That is a huge complement from you!!
EXCELLENT VID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video man
Thank you soo much! I've searched everywhere for this exact lesson. I'm just starting out with metal and I'm finding it very difficult to play double pedal.
Good luck buddy. Take it slow, learn single strokes first... I don't recommend doing this until you get your singles fast and solid.
@@beyondbetrayal thanks. I need all the help I can get hahaha
very good thank you!
Im trying. Thank you so much
You got this!
Very good explained
Thanks
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
INcredible...I"m 57 but never done double kick. I've got no time to waste! thanks so much!
Good luck
Nice work
Cool my bro great .truth I love this
thanks man
Amazing tips..very useful..more videos
I'll do my best. I'm trying to make a few a week right now. I need more hours in a day :)
Hey man, just had to come back here because I watched this last night and went and tried it tonight and it finally clicked for me, I still have alot of work to do getting power, but I've got it going now for the most part, I wanna make sure my hits are all clear and clean before I bring triggers into the mix.
Awesome man. Keep at it and you'll have it in no time
excellent
Heel toe is easier than slide or swivel. It helps, its just effective but easier to master. Good kick pedals help alot too. And every drummer is different. Awesome video this...
Wow, a video that helps? Holy shit! Thank you!!!
Thanks for watching!
nice lesson..good
thanks man
Im greatfull for finding this vid!i was about to throw my gibraltar 6711 db pedal out the window but have had my beaters too high and back to far!!thanks man!
Awesome dude. good luck
Came here from VDrums, Thank you for this
No problem. thanks for watching
Great video
Thanks!
My big toes, shin bones, calfs & achilles tendons sincerely thank you for this vid.
lol
Impressive, with the added resistance from the slave pedal
super informative. thanks. I have 3 pedals -
old PDP chain-drive one that has the lowest spring tension (most exhausting, I guess),
tama dynasync direct-drive, which tends to glide things along easier with that footboard underspring stuff
and a Yamaha DFP9C direct-drive which I added lots of weights to as kind of a mascochistic training thing.
I'm trying to get my left foot's classic doubles up to 32nd speeds like my right - the asymmetry of the loudness was almost laughable on one recording.
things are smoothing out now - looking forward to trying this heel/toe technique after I am satisfied with the classic shuffle-toe method on both feet.
thanks again for doing this awesome breakdown!
Thanks for watching and the comment :)
really helpful
Glad you think so!
bro that helped alot!
thanks bro.....very helpful
No problem. Sub and I'll try and make more
thanks for the video, im having difficulties with my DW4000 pedals where the springs are maxed out but i cant get it to bounce fast enough to make it to the second hit, whole pedal seems really rather stiff BUT with lower tension on springs i lose all the power i need and it only becomes slugish and slow.
i realized i need to invest in better pedals to get it to work like it does to you, also chain and direct drive are whole world apart on the feel, some things you can do much easier on the direct drive rather than on the chain drive.
Thank you for this video. I've been considering getting back into metal and grabbing a double pedal. This and triggers must be how so many players are able to play at 250Bpms or faster
You make it look so easy
It is pretty easy when you get it down. I'm not going to lie :P
Very helpful Video!!.. Man have you ever tried doing doubles with the axis but with the ekits?
+Jorge Arriaga No. I think it would work amazing though.
Its cool
Nice.
Thanks!
Wowwwww nice man
Thanks :)
Could you please do a video on your Pacific settings on your Demon Drives, pretty please. Love your videos, you have helped me out alot. Thank you.
厉害👍
Why am i here, I'm a guitarist
I'm a Drummer that goes to guitarist websites. I play Guitar too but mostly Drums.Your a well rounded Musician, nothing wrong with that.
David Hudson your secret is safe here.
I'm a guitarist . Too lol haha . But I love drums and bass . And other stuff I watch lessons constantly on all instruments
me too but I love drums, bass and keyboards. You can call me a perfectionist but trust me, it's nice to hear, you can sum up all you can do and making music
We all secretly wish we were as talented as drummers.
just a thought I am struggling with double base beats with my acoustic triggers base drum with Pintech mesh heads maybe my pedal should be tweaked a bit? great vid cheers.
My Man, you are the King Kong berries with this double pedal shit!
Thanks
Excelente video, me ayudó mucho, solo una pregunta, cuál es el modelo del pedal que usas en este video?? Gracias!!!
Axis - AL2 and Pearl Demond Drives. Thanks
Thanks bro!
Jorge Offemaria sub and I'll make some more shortly
Nice video bro? What triggers are you using on this video? Roland or DDRUM? Cheers!
