- Akela and I headed to Salt Lake City to take care of a lingering issue with the engine. Of course, very little went as planned, but it ended up being an amazing week anyway! Van life at it's finest.

We are Linnea and Akela. Through the van build, I used my stubbornness and drive to show individuals that they, too, can convert a campervan by themselves and on a budget, with a lot of learning, rolling up the sleeves, and getting to work.
Our goal is to inspire individuals to chase their dreams... to break from societal limitations and live the life they truly desire.

I am 83 and love watching you and Akela 🥰 Life is short. Live experience it all, especially the great outdoors and it’s beauty. Be happy!!!
As a non-meat eater, I totally respect you MORE after this video. One reason I don't eat meat is because I know I couldn't kill anything. But mostly I feel a lot of modern meat consumption actively wants to avoid a connection to the life they are taking from the earth. You are highly aware and that's respectable. People who hunt exotic creatures for clout are problematic, people who legally hunt and consume the meat I respect.
☝🏼this 1000'xs!!! I was trying to come up with something to say and you nailed it better than I ever could've.
I greatly respect this. Thank you for stating your opinion so clearly and eloquently. I appreciate this a lot!
This is exactly how I feel and am too, you put it into words so well. I highly respect you and your journey in this Linnea♥️
To me it’s all about suffering. When an animal suffers just so I can eat it’s meat, it’s just not worth it. If an animal is killed, instantly, no suffering, never even knew what hit it, I have no problem with anyone eating that meat. Hunters who just hunt for the thrill of it, those scare the bejeezus out of me.
@@anneliesjoss This to.
Love the bow and arrow and hearing about that journey. It's so important to know where our food comes from - I swear people should HAVE to go hunting before they're allowed to taste meat! Great stuff.
Or just don’t eat meat at all.
@@P.oliver380 That's valid for some people, too!
Linnea, please do not feel guilty for sharing the fact that you hunt and harvest food sustainably for yourself to survive. I am a hunter, gatherer, grower and fisher of this land. And I am a woman. I know what it's like to thank the Lord and the land for beautiful creatures like deer, fish and vegetables and fruit. Please continue to share this process and adventure. You empower me with every video. Yes I'm a little late to watching this video but I'm so proud of you!
For the record, most mechanic shops have a book and that book lists all the different types of jobs and each of those jobs has a preset number of hours you will pay for the job. This is in many ways for the protection of the consumer, plus it motivates the mechanic to get things done as efficiently as possible since it is for a 'set' rate. I'm glad you were able to bite the bullet and get things fixed because I would imagine being a nomad with an unreliable vehicle is pretty much the worst. It also looks like it worked out marvelously with a friend in town you could visit and have some fun with. As someone who is alone most of the time, I like to socialize once in a while to change things up. Makes you appreciate the alone time all the more. Enjoy Oregon and thanks for sharing.
100% THIS. As someone with friends who have shops. The employees get PAID based on the flat rate, the consumer pays flat rate. Hunting around for a shop that charges actual hourly rate may seem like a savings, until it runs long over the book rate or they do something that voids something in the warranty.
flat rate ... my experience is that flat rates almost always exceed actual time. Ie a 1.5 hour rate to replace 8 plugs in my SUV. my time is 20 minutes from the time I open the hood until closed.
@@TheConservativeTraveller When you have to guess, you will always guess on the side of caution. If you ever came across a sparkplug that was ridiculously hard to remove or one that broke off in the socket, you'd understand better where that 1.5 hour 'estimate' was born :) Of course, as a business, that is justification for 'over-charging' for the 90% of the time things go swimmingly. We all hate mechanics, but we all desperately want to know one we can trust and this is the reason why...
Meanwhile a fully remanufactured 3.6l pentastar with 3 year 100k mile warranty is under $4000. I guess I know which way I will go if I ever get in to this van life deal
@@owenparker6651 Wow. Thanks for reminding me everyone hates me until they need to use me. You're right about jobs having a preset time. This was set by the industry. Not the mechanic working on your car.
The bow is bad ass, it's also great for self protection, silent but deadly.
Linnea encouraging a creature with zero legs to "run, run, run!" makes me feel seen. 😂🤣
Ahahahahaha!! This gave me a very good laugh :)
Please share your journey. Im a life long hunter and seeing the process people go through helps me under stand it my self.
I always said that I could never hunt and shoot an animal with anything but a camera, but I have respect for those who do in the proper manner. From childhood, my favorite part of dinner was meat. 😋❤️
I am so amaze on how you respect animals and nature
I grew up with brothers and dad hunting and fishing. There is nothing like healthy sourced meat. You go girl!
I appreciate this is much. I feel so intune and at home with nature and spent many years being a vegetarian because it made me so sad how animals were treated. Through that journey I realized how humane hunting and harvesting your own meat is and have the goal to someday provide all my own food whether from the ground or hunting/fishing for my family. You’ve inspire me to pull out my dads old fly fishing gear and start learning this journey, so thank you.
Wow big repair bill!! Very beautiful scenery. Can’t wait to see Oregon. Carry on Linnea
A DCJR Technician here, yes we go by a book time. To keep it fair across the bored. Some techs are slower and some are faster, either we go by a labor operation. Those cans are pretty good though.
Good on you Linnea!!! You do you till your heart bursts! Just discovered your channel the other day and I love your content. Looking forward to following you on your adventures!
Hey Linnea! I know this is an older video, but I’m binging all of your videos from start to finish. I’ve been in the archery community since I was 5 years old. I’ve shot competitively and have been hunting for as long as I can remember. My dad owned an archery shop up until a couple of years ago, so you could say we know quite a bit. If you have any questions or want some pointers please reach out!
I completely relate to needing nature and solitude after being in the city. I love this like minded community!!
When you post, it doesn’t matter what I’m doing - I come watch your video! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Hi Linnea. I have been putting of this comment because I am not a comment person, but I feel compelled to encourage you as much as possible...
You come across so very real in your videos. Its awesome. You have spoken out against cyber bullying. You have spoken your heart about ethical hunting. You have an impact on the ethics of carnivores. You back up your convictions with actions. I am sure you will get a lot of negative comments from opinionated people who do not understand, but please be proud of what you are doing. Please be encouraged to carry on. You are fantastic in so many ways. You are an icon to people to be real and authentic. Please keep it up. Please carry on showing the real side. Show us your family. (also fantastic btw - I am a sailor) Show us your trials and tribulations. Show us getting up in you pajamas. Its fantastic. May it forever silence the fake people who think they are woke. The people whose stupid expectations cause depression and problems. Keep it real. Keep it going. Fantastic again.
Doug from South Africa
You have a beautiful soul and may you have the best time finding things out for yourself
Thank you so much :)
I am a bow hunter and a fisherman. I hunt within the rules and process everything for my personal consumption. My freezer will provide my own sourced food year-to-year. A rancher that I live by in the Ozarks allows me to use his land to hunt, he is not a hunter, in return I will provide him some of the self-sourced meat - he always ends up giving me some of his beef from the cattle. I have another neighbor who raises chickens and she loves to eat fish. Her husband passed away about two years ago, he was the fisherman in her family, so I give her fish with no expectation of any return...but...she keeps me eating fresh 'what's a cage?' eggs year 'round (and chicken). It's a cycle of life and respect across the board. So, I am down for your bow adventures.
Hi, thats a shocker!!! But at least your Van is safe moe.. happy birthday, congratz....
Lees Akila😪always love to see her...
Stay safe sweety...
Even in the face of adversity and not so good news (could almost get a rebuilt engine for that price) you still have a smile to share. What a kind soul. All the best: Always!
Happy B-day, from a fellow cheesehead, van lifer (part-time)!
I’m glad I found you, Akela and your channel. This is the second video I’ve watched. Have a lot of catching up to do. Happy trails to you two. ♥️♥️
Some people say with that motor valve problems are common when the motor is left idling to often. when idling the top end of the motor doesn't get lubricated very well.
Love bow hunting! I had a 65 lb Martin recurve up in Astoria Oregon, Elk burgers...Yum!
Just a mention on vehicle. Run full synthetic oil. I idle alot as well for heat and AC.
Happy Birthday! So glad you got Togo running right. I so envy your lifestyle. Have fun! Enjoy your peace and quiet.
I have a undergraduate degree in environmental sustainability and i'm currently working on my Masters in the same field, and what i've gathered from my studies in regards to meat consumption is that the true harm lies in over-consumption and factory farming. I believe that it is this disconnect between where our food comes from/the relationship to the land that is truly harmful, not the inherent consumption of meat itself. Despite being a vegetarian, I strongly support and commend your journey to become a more conscious consumer! I would love to learn more about it. Good luck!
Girl you are my super hero and I so so love akela she seems so happy and enjoying life with you who could ask for anymore . Keep rolling!!!!
Glad you got your rig fixed and you are safe to be on the trail again keep up with the great adventures love following your travels
I believe it’s a life skill we all need to know and learn. So I say more power to you. Express who you are because God already new you were going to do this. So amen to you and I will pray for your adventures.
Happy birthday! Thank you for who you are! Best wishes!
Your friend is really goofy! I love it.
Take good care all my very best xx
Just started watching your videos from Ontario Canada
Bravo....sustainable living. I didn't hunt with my compound bow....just competition but I loved it. Unfortunately my shoulder got too sore to continue. You're young and aware of your body so I don't need to tell you to watch for over use on the shoulder. Love watching your videos. My promaster is a van build for me and three dogs. Mostly set for overnights at competitions and dog crates and especially heat protection.
Karma is a Beeach
I'm interesting in your journey. Thanks for your honesty.
I think you will love the PNW. Being a resident of Washington, I travel a lot to the mountains and coast, as well as Oregon. Endless beauty. Absolutely love following your journey.
Happy Birthday special lady 🎂🥰🎉
Sometimes I watch CZcams videos and say “gosh if I was 25/30 years younger”
Love your posts and also respect your desire to want to know and understand the beautiful creatures that help sustain us. It’s a great plan ✔️
What wonderful friends you have. Some of my best memories are from living in SLC. Hope you have a wonderful time here in Oregon
Linnea nice to see you again I really enjoy your video I hope you and akela are doing good god bless you.😘
You are an inspirational individual. Been watching your videos for some time now and I can't wait to get my butt on the road...
Happy Birthday Linnea! I love that you're becoming so proficient with your bow. Thank you for keeping it real and showing us the ups and downs of the nomadic lifestyle.
Thank you so much❤️
I bought a recurve in my late thirties and almost immediately fell and dislocated my wrist. It just wouldn’t heal, so fifteen years later, it’s in my closet because I just can’t part with it yet. I have fished, cleaned, prepped and eaten my catch. I have kept rabbits, skinned, cleaned, prepped, cooked and eaten them. I’ve done the same with pigs, turkeys, & chickens. I think one of the reasons people accept or get oblivious and indifferent to how animals are kept to get grocery store meat is because they have never done any of this. And so we get unhealthy results from miserable animals. I respect your decision to hunt and obtain wild meat. Kudos.
So sorry to hear of Togo's trouble...again. I hope you're all set for a long while. Happy birthday 🎂🥳 tx for sharing your bow & arrow skills. I completely support you in wanting to get your own "food"! You are one of my favs that I follow and I'm always rooting for you ❤
Hey! I’ve always been interested in archery and I totally respect anyone who hunts with a bow and arrow. It’s so much more natural and like you said, the connection is stronger all around.
Thank you Lauren!
Happy birthday 🎉🎈🎁🎂🎊 Linnea
You have the greatest friends! ❤️
I really do! ♥️
Happy Birthday! Your videos are amazing and so relaxing to watch, thank you for sharing this part of your life. Looking forward to your next video, you handy person you!
I really appreciate it, thank you!
Keep sharing about your journey in hunting your own meat! It’s such a beautiful and unique perspective and I would love to hear more!
I always look forward to your videos! I am interested in van life and the life style, and have been watching your van build series bc I think i'll try and build my own van one day as well! I just got off of work and was wondering if you had any new videos, I was so excited to see the you posted something new! thank you for posting your experiences on here!
Love this video and applaud your courage to share your plan to harvest your own meat.
Loving your channel ❤
Super awesome friends singing feliz cumpleaños a ti !! So lucky .. have a wonderful bday!
Absolutely wonderful that your taking up archery with the intent to take your own food. Keep it up. And my truck has had that same issue for 200k miles.
Animals are not food. They are friends.
@@P.oliver380 your dog might be your friend but a deer,rabbit,bird.........all food.
Hope you live your ENTIRE life as you do now. Your family and your Mom helps that dream. Wish I could have instilled that in my children... 2 have been caught in the system, ....one is so smart she will be and work the system !
Good on you, Linnea! I grew up hunting with my dad (rifle and bow), but really haven't done much of that in my later years. But these days I'm more and more convinced that self-reliant skills are going to be more necessary. So, you're definitely in a great position. Thanks for everything you're doing!
Rifle hunting is for cowards.
@@P.oliver380 Different strokes for different folks.
I'm so sorry you had the van troubles. I hope it all works well now. Your friend had me cracking up at the end of the video 😁
You have the best life ups and downs, all! Happy birthday. And yes keep us in the loop of all you do.
Thank you so much :)
Happy Birthday 🎂🎉🎉🎂
That engine work expense I know it's hard, however you were able to stay with good friends and celebrate your birthday. That was a plus. Wishing you safe travels. Stay happy 🌹🙂
Awesome, but not Awesome lol
I hear ya on the van repairs, it never stops. Glad you were able to get it fixed. Safe travels 🚐
I have a 2006 ford E250 van with 197000 miles with the 4.6 v8 and it didnt sound that loud with ticking. Most newer modern engines uses roller tip lifters and roller rocker arms...with roller lifters I dont know how the cams would have worn out with such low milage. There is a very Knowledgeable mechanic on CZcams called Scotty Kilmer. He has over 4 million subscribers and has been a mechanic for over 50 years and seems very honest and stand up. My mother had a jeep with the straight 6 in it and most of those motors had noisy lifters....a bottle a marvel mystery oil would quiet it down significantly where the noise almost goes away. Most modern engines have variable valve timing and use very thin oil.Im not sure how the marvel mystery oil would effect that with modern engines. Also ive been hunting and shooting in the woods before I could ride a bicycle. Ive been to Canada elk hunting. It was beautiful.Elk beef jerky was the best ive ever had.Anyway good luck with everything.
Happy (belated) Birthday, Linnea. I am so sorry to hear about the major repairs you had to deal with on your van. Thankfully, nothing major happened while you were out in the middle of nowhere though. Being stranded during a major breakdown would have been much worse! Glad that you were able to connect with friends and get it repaired (even if dealers rip us off!).
I absolutely love and adore you and Akela, all the work you put in (both with the van and your content). You have done such a great job, and I hope to be able to be free like this someday. Keep up the great work, and thank you for all the content and updates!
I am glad you got to celebrate your birthday with your friends. It was so nice.
New sub here from Salt Lake City . You have two great friends there . Happy Birthday !!
Sorry you had to spend so much money to fix your van , however I am glad that you called out the shop about the labor hours not adding up . It is super hard to find an honest mecanic in this day and age . Happy trails to you and your pup.
☮
Happy birthday 🎁🎈🎊 and safe travels to Oregon look forward in seeing videos from there.
Happy birthday! I’d love to see your archery journey. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do but chronic illness killed that dream. Maybe I can live vicariously through you. As someone who grew up on an animal farm, I understand that connection you’re looking for.
Happy Birthday! Archery will definitely connect you with nature, you'll get hooked and never leave, great luck to you, stay safe
That's what I hear :) Thank you!
Happy Birthday sweetie! Have fun learning how to use your bow be careful
Thank you for sharing. Happy Belated Birthday and may you continue to have amazing times moving forward 🙏❤
Thank you!
The “surprise” at the very end was my fav 💗💗 much love to you and your pup and your van.
When you said pull up bar my ears went ting! I have one it's so cool to swing from I put my hammock on it and swing aswell as pull ups great for overall fitness and strength. 💪happy hippy birthday! 💝
Loved the way he looked at her. Good luck!
Happy belated Birthday. Interesting to see you with a bow and look forward to watching how well you do in this "how you become a hunter adventure". I have not hunted for quite awhile especially being in Florida. The deer hear are not much bigger than Akela. In Michigan, Nebraska and North Carolina would hunt deer, pheasent, duck, turkey and wild boar to keep meat in the freezer. Did a lot of fishing too. Good luck huning and fishing. Safe travels and camping my friend.
Happy belated birthday! Looking forward to seeing the chin-up bar vlog, I’m planning to add a bar off my vans roof rack that will hold a hammock chair.
Happy birthday🎂 I've recently been wanting to get a bow for myself. I'd definitely be interested in seeing how you're learning to use it, as well as tips you may have along with the "know your Food" journey.
I grew up on a small farm with pigs, chickens, cows and one huge ass garden! Some people have certainly lost touch with where their meals come from and I applaud your effort to know more.
Thank you! Yes, I will certainly be sharing more. I appreciate your comment :)
WOW! What an adventure! Sorry it was so costly to repair, but peace of mind for sure before your travels...I agree that the 14 hours for work did not make sense, they didn't have it that long..:( Safe travels and all the BEST to you and Akela:) CHeers !
I'm also a hunter (bow only). I think it's the most primitive way someone can harvest their own food because then they're much more grateful for it when it comes to them on a plate. I prefer bow myself, because we can connect to nature and our ancestors who did it this way for hundreds of years and it also gives animals a chance if I miss my shot which is okay to me if you miss. No sweat! It also makes it so much more challenging. I hope you share more of this journey with us! Look forward to more ♥
Also, happy belated birthday!
Love that you shoot the Bow, and love that you want to feel more connected.
She should connect that arrow to her own head.
Good to have friends. Admire your pluck and outlook on life. Enjoy future travels :)
Thank you very much Ray!
I hope the van finally behaves for like a few years. :) Happy trails!
Just came across your channel enjoy it now i see you shoot archery love it i have been into archery many years
Oregon is a beautiful place to live. I love watching your CZcams videos .they inspired me to go off and adventure .
Thank you so much 😊🥰
Thank you so much for the love and support!
Archery is AWESOME!!
Right there with you on car repair. My 07 Outback needs a transmission. Being a manual it's been hard to find one. Finally found a guarantee d used one. Also, I'm with you on legal, ethical hunting. Deer are plentiful and there's no good ready not to harvest them.
Love the video
Just thanks for your sharing
Absolutely!
I think knowing where your all your food comes from is so important and I find that there are lots of people who are clueless about it. I live in a very rural part of NC and hunting and fishing are very prominent here. My sister actually won some awards for her bow hunting. She is also a taxidermist. If you are ever out on the east coast of NC you are more than welcome to come hunt on my land. Love the video as always and happy late birthday!!!🎂🎉🎈🎁💕
What a beautiful comment. Thank you so much!❤️
Happy birthday 🥳🎉🥳,it pays to have a extended warranty, also people you can trust to work on your vehicles, I've used CZcams a lot to figure out some issues on some of my vehicles 👍 up happy Sunday everyone and be safe.
Happy Birthday Linnea!🎉🎂🎈
Yessssss keeep the archery up! You are inspiring me in so many ways! This has been something I have wanted to take up for a long time! I eat meat, but not much because of where it comes from and because humans eat way too much meat on a daily basis! So this would be so satisfying!! Keep up your awesome life! I’m really enjoying your journey!! 💜
I have bows myself and my brother hunts all bow seasons,.Great skills have great friends.
Thank you :)
Happy Birthday Linnea !
Like the bow stuff. Keep it coming.
I’m Greenlandic but I live in Denmark as it is so my experience with living off the land and knowing exactly where my food is from and how it got from a living, breathing soul to me eating it from my plate. It should be standard learning for everyone but it’s not. From that standpoint I think teaching your audience about the true origin of meat is highly valuably. Thinking that meat grows in a supermarket is removed from real life but it’s also a denial of your own actions and numbness. Please do share more of your journey to a more intimate relationship with meat.
Hey Linnea…..Love your Door County shirt….have spent a lot of time there. The lake side is less populated and touristy than the bay side. Have stayed in Baileys Harbor for just that reason. Had dinner at a Mexican restaurant. Like Sister Bay as well. Love Akela! Can she/he be my step dog. In my opinion, dogs are people. Look forward to your videos….Jim
I just had a clicking noise taken care of in my ram pro master and it was exactly $4500 as well. It was the camshafts, and other things as well.
And, Happy Birthday, my dear!
