Emily gave up her love basically so Austin could be happy. And he says “you couldn’t just let me be happy.” She gave up what truly meant to her for nothing. Second season Austin and Sue better divorce. And why couldn’t he see in a different scene that sue was happy that she got the dress dirty and was crying tears of joy when she was reading Emily’s poem. You could honestly see how Emily’s heart was crushed.

They dont she has three children it's a doomed relationship her and Emily it's the 19th century unless your Anne Lister who had money to cover up her marriage to a woman. Their relationship will never develop to what it is now. Incredibly sad but incredibly realistic and is what makes Emily Dickinson's poetry so incredibly amazing because she wrote from sadness like most of the mist incredible writers and poems of history and our modern era

    Hello Singular Steinfeld,
I think Austin knew deep down that Emily & Sue were meant for each-other & that Sue would never love him the way she loved his sister. But, as you can see here he didn't care. Austin was determined to have a Trophy Wife to impress Daddy & Sue just happened to be there & they were good friends. Unfortunately, it was a no-win situation for Sue because the reasons she married Austin were merely for financial stability because she he had no choice in the matter, on account, of her whole family being dead. Also, I noticed here how Austin is jealous & possessive. He has this wild look in his eyes.. Like his father, Austin has a Jeckle & Hyde personality. Sweet one minute, a monster the next. The real tragedy here is that Sue, Austin, & Emily are all victims of a society that wants to pigeon hole them in specific roles. Sue is supposed to be the dutiful housewife but only because she has no choice in the matter, Austin will follow in Daddy's footsteps & stay right where he is despite his desire to get out of Amhurst simply because his parents demand that he follow tradition. Emily is expected to find a good man & get married. The only one of the trio that doesn't bow to these social constraints is Emily. And as a result, we got some of the best poetry ever written by a human being. Sue & Emily are soul mates. Whenever Emily & Sue were alone together, they could be their true selves. They were openly happy together. You could see this happiness in Sue especially. But when she is with Austin Sue is clearly miserable, but must play the part of a dutiful fiance/Bride Perhaps one of the reasons why Austin found comfort in the arms of another woman is he knew that Sue would never love him the way she loved Emily. I also think Austin may have had a hand in getting his mistress to edit out all mentions of Sue in his sister's letters & poems. Thankfully these attempts to erase Sue & Emily's relationship proved to be futile in the end As you can clearly see here, it drove him crazy to know that Sue was in love with not only someone else, but that that "someone else" was his sister. My ideal way to end the series would be to have Emily & Sue reunited in the Afterlife where they can finally have the romantic relationship they were always meant to have, but were denied to have in life & they can finally be together forever. They could even get married in Heaven with Emily wearing a suit & maybe the top-hat. Sue wears the Bridal gown that she wore when she married Austin, only this time, she's marrying the true love of her life. What do you think?
