My hat was handed down to me from my mother as a ranch family we competed in goat ties, calf ties and fun little round ups. Barrel racing was my mother's niche . Her rarely worn, record setting barrel race hat is now mine . I feel the race smell the dirt and fresh manure can feel the breath of pinetta under my legs . This hat a Laredo handwove shantung with a simple black band (now garnished with a blue jay feather from my aunt) transports me to those incredible competitions and wonderfull moments that I shared with my mother that sadly I'll never get to have again.
Just got into horse showing and needed a hat. I thought I was stupid for a second when both side of my hat looked the same. I am from PA and I have to admit when I am dumbfounded and wrong... This was actually so helpful, thank you 😬😂

It's not because I'm a cowboy, it's because I went to see my dermatologist and he's very concerned about my sun exposure and he asked me what kind of hat I wear. I told him a baseball hat and he got a disapproving look on his face. so I decided to go get a straw hat to keep the sun off my neck. I was pretty sure i knew what end was the front but unlike some hat designs, it's not absolutely obvious and there's no bow on the inside. I'm a fireman and my leather fire helmet has a bronx bend, so it dips down abruptly in the the back. Well my new cowboy hat kind of does that too only in the front so I'm glad I found your video to settle the matter.

Hey, i love you too for showing all the drug store cowboys how to wear a hat. Maybe it’s a preference, but for me, my hat is sized so the brim sits right at the top of my ears. Not really touching but no gap either. Only Howdy Doody Wears his hat sittin back and on top of his head. lol
alex angell Just makes sure it’s a good fit. Some hats are a one size fits many, and they don’t always last once they get some wear in them. I’d try to find one that has a size for your head. They fill a lot better. Plus they stay on your head better.

Hopefully you found your hat already. But if not, you might want to try pre-owned but lightly used hats. For felt hat, you can always micro adjust the fit with steam. I got my first hat that way. Beside of the money I saved, I love the sense of history the hat carries ( it was manufactured before I was born).

Our eyes considerably see our environment more horizontal, wide left to right, than vertical, up and down. Your video appears we are wearing horse blinders or looking through a keyhole, cutting off the left and right of your video; not at all good. If you went to a movie theater and watched a movie dead center of the screen with the left and right cut of you would think something is in error, you would not enjoy the movie. I can’t stand the way some of these young people wear hats backwards or right out of the box with no shaping at all. It should be narrower at the front than the back too.
Thank You for telling ignorant/unknowing people how to wear a cowboy hat properly! It is apparently no longer common knowledge... Also, it is an accepted practice for ladies to wear the bow/buckle on left side too. But ladies hats are traditionally tied/buckled on right side.👍 More good practices include; hat stored upside down & handled by crown, not brim. = prevents brim distortion. When cleaning, = use hat sponge or equal, n brush front to back.

It’s the sweat band. Check with your local western store. Some can fix it in house, and some will send it off for repair.
