I held out a long time but recently I finally gave Rick and Morty a shot and it turns out I'm obsessed and I love this show, so let's make a drink about it! There's actually quite a few places to find inspiration for drinks in Rick & Morty, which means its something I will likely revisit down the road, for now I'm looking at Rick's Flask. What exactly IS he drinking all the time? Is it mega-seed extract? Well, I hope not. I'm fairly certain that in one episode he mentions there being scotch in the flask, and we see him order a "lot of vodka" at Bird Person's wedding, and there's plenty of other ingestible intoxicants in this series... but for the flask I'm going with an interview Dan Harmon gave in which he said several things, some of them contradictory: 1- We're not really ready to talk about what's in the flask 2- Rick is a connoisseur of fine spirits and he mixes it up in the flask 3- In the pilot episode the flask is definitely full of Hennessy XO.
Ok then, Hennessy XO it is. Of course, simply dumping some fine cognac into a flask wouldn't really be much of a cocktail so, I'm tweaking it just slightly into something a bit like an Old Fashioned but not really at all.
Rick's Flask
2 Barspoons of Demerara Syrup
3 Barspoons of Pickle Brine
2 oz. or 60 ml. Hennessy XO
Stir over ice,
garnish with a twist of orange
Keep in mind, that if you're going to put this in a flask the orange oils from the twist are essential to the drink, express that over the mixing glass before funneling it into the flask.

Here's my take on what's in flask:
In the guest couch gag of Simpsons, he just pours Duff beer from can. Also he's alcoholic to the bone. Probably to stop his brain to think a lot. So he'd probably go whatever on the shelf. Also his belch around his mouth is greenish-yellowish-whiteish so I'd put like 3-4 kinds of cheap spirits (vodka, tequila, gin...) and balance things out from there.
Also I didn't drink alcohol in my life, so what the f*** I know.

IDK, even at my worst I'd walk to the next room to get a bottle of the good stuff rather than a cheap beer... I can't really see rick not having memorized the time and space coordinates for the back room of a good liquor store in the middle of the night and just grabbing a handle of whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted...
Harmon gave a really good answer on reddit that I really really like "I tend to assume vodka, and I know it seems unlikely that Rick wouldn’t use sci-fi tech to somehow augment whatever he drinks but I think in Rick’s mind part of the ‘addiction’ to the flask of good old fashioned booze is that it anchors his identity, and I think he knows that if he augmented the booze or the flask, then why not just whip up a very rudimentary nanobiotic alcohol dispenser in his body or inject himself with a plasma component that just amounts to always having a certain blood alcohol level, and I think the reason he doesn’t do that is because he’s a little afraid he’ll lose sight of who he is."

There is a whole counsel of Ricks made up of Ricks that are missing that little bit of drunk drool around their mouths and from what I've seen are 100% coherent. That whole Mega Seed thing has got to be bunk.

Best guess i have is when he got so drunk he wound up on the planet they were on is when he discovered them. He was smart enough to invent the portal theory without them. Also he dose kalaxian Krystals and smokes out of a alien smoking device a couple of episodes too. So one question, what is Rick Sanchez not on?

Did anyone watch this to the end? That Evil Morty cameo at the end there really just put this over the top. The corny effects, the literary discussion, it looks like you were at least buzzed when you made this, and the fact you mixed pickle juice with $150 Hennessy like a true connoisseur nihilist rick would, it's all next level, mega-seed genius level.
Holy hot damn ok so I’ve a background in motion graphics and on the tasting notes I noticed a really really subtle and hierarchical effect y’all’s editor does. With each tasting note there is the most subtle gradient applied to each previous note after a new one is added. The kicker I hear you plea, is that the very last one has no gradient - simulating a light source coming from the bottom. It’s such a small detail but keeps in theme with the under light for each drink. Absolute kudos to the editor in these episodes!

I legit believe you will go down as one of this generations great cocktail inventors for 2 reasons: 1. Uniqueness of ingredients and your drinks composition while being reminicent of classics 2. The cultural relevancy of some of the origins of your drinks.

Inspired by the plot of a Rick & North episode that revolves around adventuring into a micro universe I hypothesize that Rick has an entire world living inside his flask manufacturing various types of alcohol. The spout of the flask could even be a wormhole connected to space time distortion of a super massive black hole feeding off nebulae of alcohol offered to it by a galactic order of microscopic monks tricked into thinking Rick' s mouth is their God portal to the afterlife. Or...It could just be an ordinary flask filled with the drink you just made.

Finally! I've been waiting for a good cork review.
I am a fan of the show, i just recently discovered it. I really enjoy the text on screen especially the tasting notes. I found out things like cork review and all the other fun segments were not always part of the show. I am so glad that this show is getting better and better. Im glad to know the whole one ice one cracked was here from the start. Awesome content. This was the second episode i watched the first being its always sunny episode.
Now, all we need is for the writers to see this episode and then (at some point in the future) for Rick to order Rick's Flask on the show.

To me the seed is inspired by the Argyreia nervosa seed.
A natural psychedelic substance used to enter light trances.
It taste really bitter, and can be extracted by 90% alcool to neutralise some of the toxics components .
The cocktail could be made with a part of strong moonshine, a part of a good alcool like scotch or bourbon, and some bitter orange alcool.
Something like orange Picon, for sweetness.

We sell our Hennessy XO for £9.50 a measure. A patron once ordered a double and necked it and left about half a measure in the glass. I thought that was extremely wasteful.

Not a lightweight, but mead seems to get me sauced pretty well
Yes, mead. Take me to Solstheim so I can shitfaced on mead and fistfight a Draugr. Followed up with some Reikling punting.
Mead is easy to make. Get a gallon of distilled water from the gas station, pour out just enough that you can add in 3 pounds of pure honey, shake until homogenous, add yeast, cover the top with a balloon with a couple of holes poked in it with a needle. Store in a dark place at room temperature for about 2 weeks, then strain out the sediment at the bottom. Most people recommend letting it age for a few weeks up to a year, but that’s largely personal preference.
