If so, what does jenndantor des gonaives mean? I understand that these women are dancing as part of a vodou ceremony, but what is the significance of the canes that they are holding? I'm an African American who happened upon this video and other similar videos while searching CZcams for Haitian rara music. Unfortunately, I don't know any other language but English. Thank you. This vodou might be specific to gonaive. I think there are slight variations throughout the country. Especially North vs south. I've nerver really seen that cane part. I don't think they're the same as Jenn dantor Des gonaive. That group I think is lead by hougan (male preist) called gradizer (?) And I don't see him here. Jenn dantor Des gonaive means Jean dantor of gonaive. Google Jean dantor to find the meaning. He's a lwa (spirit I guess you could say). Some groups might specialize in which lwa they worship. This might happen in families also. It can be hereditary. My parents worshiped this lwa so I will also worship this lwa. This can even happen in small villages.
