- Hello and welcome to another video!
Today we’re once again doing something cursed on this channel: we are attempting to make a Mountain Dew grilled cheese sandwich! We're gonna be following an official recipe from Mountain Dew corporate (that's right, it goes all the way to the top) to hopefully whip up a sweet and savory cheesy combo. We know that it's going to look awesome (hopefully very green), but how will it taste?

absolutely awful looking XD. I mean if it was just melted cheese and the Dew syrup I might try it but the cream cheese is not okay
I'd make a melted cheese sauce with the cheese, and a plant-milk. Plant milk cuz it's less likely to break from heat then. And add the syrup to the sauce. Then add some more of the shredded cheese to the sauce to give it more form.
Probably would have went for a colby-jack instead of a cheddar based of meltability tho
More soda based recipes would be good. Does Mountain Dew taste better in a recipe than Dr Pepper or root beer? It needs to be tested, ya know, for science.

Okay but a franken soda cake video would be hilarious imo. Box cakes with different sodas and then.bake them and layer them. Frosting? Maybe idk. If you use this idea i totally wanna be tagged

if you’re curious to know why the cheese mixture got gritty, it’s because it was probably overheated when added to the Mountain Dew reduction. Older cheeses like cheddars don’t always do well to being exposed to heat and sometimes when it’s too hot it can make it gritty!
That combined with the pre- screeded cheese. They have coatings that make it really bad for melting and mixing into things.
and maybe an oil based food dye instead of a water based food dye.
Yeah I was thinking while watching the video that the cheese looked broken/split after they melted it. It's because of that that mac and cheese uses a roux and milk to melt the cheese indirectly. Without gentle heat, the fat/oils melt out of the rest of the cheese and cause that gritty texture.

Using the pre shredded cheese is what probably caused the grainy texture. Pre shredded cheese is coated with cornstarch or other starch to keep it from clumping in the bag so it would thicken the mtn dew cheese mixture

I worked in a research lab for years and can confirm that sticking tubes of frozen reagents between your thighs is a very scientific way of thawing things quickly
No, it's all about the armpits!! That way you can still walk around and you still have a limited range of motion for your arms. I work in a hospital lab, which probably involves a lot more scrambling and running around in a panic, though.

I've always loved Safiya and her videos, but these Tyler videos with him and Safiya making crazy recipes has become my favorite thing on CZcams.
For future reference, using pre shredded cheese makes it difficult to get a smooth cheese sauce, because it's covered in anti clumping agent.
who else is going to be here for Mountain Dew pancakes? like surely it would add carbonation to the batter and make it fluffier

I would expect the carbonation would ruin the batter causing it to separate. The smart thing to do would be shake the Dew up real good or stir it until most of the bubbles are gone then make pancakes with an instant batter that calls for water. I'm sure they would taste OK you probably wouldn't even get much of the Dew flavor. You'd be better off making a Mountain Dew syrup.
You can actually make lemonade scones! My dad and I would always make them. It’s yum
My dad added sprite to pancakes when he made them when I was a kid. It makes them fluffy.
If you want green grilled cheese but without Mtn Dew, try pesto-infused gouda, it's soooo good

i love being subscribed to this channel because i can just be innocently scrolling and suddenly be faced with something odd and/or absolutely horrendous.... but tyler and safiya are here, so i think we'll all survive it
Why do I love Saf and Tyler? Three reasons:
1. they legitimately seem like they are best friends. I’ve married almost 23 years-yeah, I’m 👵🏼-because being best friends is a major part of married.
2. Because I am 👵🏼 I have kids and there’ a 98% that they won’t be scandalous or do or say something that I have to explain to my kids. And 3. They’re funny as hell 😂❤

this video blew my mind bc in my childhood (+before 2010), in canada there was a law preventing caffeine from being in non-cola soft drinks and i literally had NO idea the mountain dew adrenaline-core commercials were tied to the caffeine content. i was like NO THAT'S JUST MOUNTAIN DEW'S VIBE and it made sense!!!!
I have no idea why im addicted to Saf and Tys vids. I typically dont like vids where people just spend money like mad but everything they do is interesting in some way
EDIT: Maybe its because they still seem down to earth and relatable regardless of their success?
I think it’s their pure joy and fascination with the process and how unhinged they are about it that sets them apart from other people. It doesn’t feel like they are doing it for clout or intent - they just wanna have fun and do something insane
We're the same, but for me I know why I hate most influencer content; it's how they frame their videos. A majority of influencers have their content about spending money, living a luxurious lifstyle and buying designer items. The content is focused on the money and what it can buy. Saf and Tyler is about using the money towards an end, the money spent is incidental to what the video is actually about. They aren't about the act of spending money, it just happens that the question they're asking requires them to spend that money. The content isn't in your face obnoxious about how much money they can spend.
@@callaranjones5345 Yeah that's exactly what Saf said at one point. I think it was about why she left Buzzfeed? She mentioned that there she just didn't really have creative liberty like she wanted. Everything had to be ran through multiple layers of people to get approval *then* they could do things. She said that she enjoys having her own channel because she gets just such random ideas. I remember her specifically saying how she'll wake up one day with an idea, text it to the team, and they're just immediately on it doing research and seeing if they can actually do it. That's how she ends up with videos like them going to a cheese theme park or making a massive lipstick for no reason at all. Like you said, they're not answering to anybody. They're not doing it for clout. They're not doing it as fanservice. They just do whatever they feel like doing and it's extremely entertaining because of how into it they are. I miss that from content creators. Don't pander to viewers.. just do what you want because if that joy and fascination are missing from the content it's just not worth watching.

You could probably do a whole series about weird soda recipes. I feel like the internet is full of them, both the "official" ones and the odd ones people made up themselves.
Also my personal Mt. Dew fun fact: When I was 15 I came to the US for an exchange year and tried some Mt. Dew because my family just had it in the house or something. I immediately loved it and had it all the time. However, no one had told me that there is caffeine in this. I was drinking a lot of this for a few months before I realized that this was not just a different tasting sprite/ 7up. No wonder my sleep was bad for a while (I am kind of sensitive to caffeine anyway) and back then, I just thought it was because I didn't like the bed. On the plus side though, I greatly imroved my English because I spent a lot of nights reading books.
Pre shredded cheese isn’t good for melting. It has a coating that keep it from sticking, so when you melt it together it tends to separate in a weird way.. that plus the addition of Mountain Dew 🤷♀️ it’s gonna be weird regardless lol 💚
Creme cheese is super prone to curdling, especially when overheated, which probability means you added it to the mountain dew reduction too soon. You should reduce the heat and try to cool down the reduction a bit before adding the cheese mix

I feel like it would be interesting to see if the grilled cheese recipe with the cheese sauce is good without the Mountain Dew to see if the base is even any good.
It's literally just cream cheese and cheddar. That won't even make a proper cheese sauce lol. I'm sure it'd be tasty but it'd be just... melted cheese.
My favorite thing about these food videos is the weird and strange conversations that take place while waiting for the food to heat up/cool down. It always makes me smile when I see all 3 of them being goofy and having fun :)
The issue with melting is due to the anti-sticking additives found in pre shredded cheese. If you grate it yourself from a block it should melt better!
This put me right off my late night snack lol. The color and texture of that cheese mixture is cursed.
The most monstrous thing about this video wasn't the radioactive sandwich itself, but rather the way Tyler cut it in half versus on a diagonal. What a truly harrowing experience!
The food coloring did NOT help the appeal of this recipe 😂😂😂 just that green!!! Lots of fun!!

I love this so much. I've been binge-ing all the old streams to get my fix. I miss streams though! I need an hour and a half instead of 15 minutes! And I love that streams are so unhinged.
Mountain Dew is one of the pops/sodas that don't give me a headache after a few sips. Pepsi, Coke, and even Fanta have brought forth concerning headaches, but Mountain Dew? Nothing. I can drink multiple cans and I'm fine 😂

it’s a broken emulsion! you can see the oil separating from the solid in the pan. it’s not really a matter of how long you cook it, it’s just not properly emulsified
and like someone else said, pre-shredded cheese is often the culprit since they put anti-sticking agents into it so it doesn’t all melt and mush together in the bag
You could've accidentally over caramelized the mountain dew, causing sugar crystals to form!
All I can think about is that someone, possibly a professional chef, was paid to sit down and think of like a dozen Mountain Dew recipes for their website. 😭

I was watching your japan videos the other day and I love that saf is wearing the exact same style or hair tie. Next to saspirella or root beer, mountain dew is one of the strangest flavours. It just feels like straight syrup. Also "cheese essence". I'm curious if the shredded cheese added to the weird texture because shredded cheese usually has a powder. Agree with the comment below about over heating causing grittiness... but also pre-packaged shredded cheeses have added starches to prevent the pieces from sticking to each other. To get a good creamy consistency you should try going to a local deli and having them shred cheese fresh... then there's no added starches for the cheese to clump onto.
