OLD SCHOOL BUTTER BEANS AND HAM HOCKS/SUNDAY DINNER RECIPE IDEAS SEGMENT

- OLD SCHOOL BUTTER BEANS WITH HAM HOCKS
This is a very simple recipe for those creamy flavorful beans we grew up on
RECIPE:
1# dry butter beans
1 cup chopped onions
1 cup chopped celery
3 quarts chicken stock
1# ham hocks
DIRECTIONS:
Place ham hocks,celery and onions in large pot
Add enough stock to cover hocks
Simmer for 2 hours or until tender
Add beans to ham hocks and stock
Simmer beans until tender and creamy[ about 45 minutes]
Season with salt and pepper ( if needed )
Enjoy with cornbread

This was always a staple of my Mom. She loved them, too. We would use the left over Easter or Christmas ham, too, in the beans
Yes ma'am!! I would place the ham bones leftover from the Easter/Christmas hams in airtight bags & freeze... pull them out when I cook these beans with some sliced smoked hocks 😋😋😋😋 and Chef Jeffery is correct, season at the end with your peas & beans .... Beautiful job Chef!!!!

My daddy used to make these for us when we were children. I miss my father so much. Thank you Chef Williams for your videos, kindness and cooking wisdom. In the olden days, (we both are too young to remember this) people used to sit on back porches and wait for leftovers, I would have sat on your back porch for sure. My grandfather was a tomato and bean farmer and after the harvest he would open up his property so people could glean his fields for food. Happy Sunday to you and your precious family.
My dad used to cook this a lot. It was good too. He used to cook either smoked neckbones or whole hamhocks. He included white rice with it and would pour the bean soup over the rice. I miss his cooking. This brought back memories. I am saving this video as my favorite.

My kind of eating 🍽! I love homegrown butter beans right out of the garden. I grew up on these at the farm. Grandmother always cooked with pork grease or hocks. She always added small smidgen (ms) of sugar at the end. Omg. I loved the beans but knawed on the hock bones. Lmaooooooo soping up with biscuits or side of cornbread. Hey Chef Jeffrey and Crew!!! I got a Instant Pot for Christmas and I have been really enjoying it. Experimenting making different kinds of recipes. I just made barbecue spareribs with butter beans and smoked sausage. Finished off with a pot of rice. Mexican cornbread on the side. Lemon bars for dessert. My loved ones are very versatile and love a variety of different cultural foods. Usually I cook my butter beans with smoked ham hocks or Smoked Turkey wings but this time I had a request for butterbeans with Smoked Sausages. Instead of hot water cornbread my Family wanted Mexican cornbread. That's why I always say "stir up the gifts". 🎁 I never know what's next on my agenda!!! I grew up in Maryland (have now been in NC for many years). My Mom was a great cook but, we never had dry bean recipes.
