    We didn't want to spend several hundred dollars with a home security camera system. So we decided to try out the $15 harbor freight wireless motion alarm. There's 2 parts to the system, the detector/transmitter and the receiver. The transmitter is placed by the driveway and sends the signal when it detects motion. The receiver is placed in the house, but within line with the transmitter.
    It's a cheap and effective method to know when someone is coming to your house.

    I Plastidipped 2 of mine. $9 on the HF coupon. Lasts years. Never had one die. Painted one green and one black. Tree mounted the green one.

    These are good for businesses when you want to be alerted someone has come in also. For 13 bucks this is a definitely a deal.

    Sweet! I can use this around my backyard on trees to scare off the bears. I would just keep the sensor and alarm together, this way it would hopefully scare off the bears.

    I've had 2 of these "systems" over the past 15 years or so. The first was one zone manufactured by Chamberlain and I loved it. No false positives. Of course it broke as all things do with time I guess, and I bought a 4 zone Sky Link for $40 (base + 1 sensor) and 2 additional sensors @ $20 a piece. Tons of false positives from direct sunlight and moving foliage. Ended up moving sensors to face north and cut false positives down by 3/4. Never knew how many people chose to turn around at the start of my driveway (500 ft) until I installed the first sensor.

    I just bought one & I'm going to get another one asap.
    I've found out you have to be close to the transmitter in order for it to detect motion. So if you have a huge yard you will need one to let you know someone is walking to your cars and a second to detect someone walking to your house. With that being said you may want to find an alarm that has more than one motion detector that works with only one receiver. If you have a one way in/ one way out driveway, just 1 motion detector will work.

    Ours worked until today. They started going off constantly. We have 3 and have tried everything to figure out which one is messing up. Replaced batteries. Had only one battery in one unit at a time. They only screw up when outside. It picks up heat so maybe the sun is hitting it just right I just can't figure it out. Time to get something better.

    Is it just Bluetooth or you have to be hooked up to wifi to work. Was thinking about putting this under the truck for catalytic converter protection. Thanks in advance

    • @DaveWirth
      @DaveWirth  Před 2 lety +2

      Not bluetooth or wifi, it's a radio signal. Need to use the sensor outside and bell-alarm inside. Would be cool if it connected to your phone via bluetooth or wifi though.

    Can you schedule when it can be activated. like before I go to bed

    • @DaveWirth
      @DaveWirth  Před 3 lety +3

      No, it's just a motion sensor with an alarm. You could turn on the alarm switch inside the house at night.

    • @do7hemath937
      @do7hemath937 Před 3 lety +1

      The receiver can run off off electricity.
      So you can buy an electrical cord to fit it( 6Volts DC) , plug the alarm receiver into an appliance timer & set it to come on & cut off whenever you want.

    Some neighbors always have their dog shit on our walkway. This is very annoying. I think I really need some something like that. But but it looks like if neighbor are so nasty enough, they can pull the sense out of that post. Any suggestion?

    • @escapetherace1943
      @escapetherace1943 Před rokem

      yeah hide it or plant it on a post with a concrete base, and create a metal frame for it to keep it on the post so you have to take a lock off to take it out. Now put a trail camera pointing at it that is hidden so if they vandalize your property you have proof.
      edit: set the trail cam up at night too
