  • It’s gonna get wacky in this episode featuring the George Gomez-designed Deadpool. Let’s get physical and explore the more athletic aspects of pinball; the slaps and nudges and stances. Our guest is a flow-style player that is ready to get out of her comfort zone to take her game to the next level.
Tilt Pinball explores the inner workings of the game and shares techniques and strategies from champion player Trevor Whatman to help you realize your pinball potential.

I love talking about varying playstyles like this. I compare it to a jumpshot in basketball -- it's more fun when everyone has their own style. Pinball is great because it reminds me of a music solo -- it's how a person interacts with a machine to create something totally new. What happens between the two of them is unique and great.

So true, just like when you play any other sport woth people allot you learn how your friends and colleagues in your league play and just watching the different styles of play in a tournament is great !

Another great episode!.. Im a big believer in using my dangers.. If I drain and havemt gotten a danger I feel like I've cheated myself or didn't make the move necessary to save the ball.. of course there are always gonna be balls no matter what you do you never had a chance to save it but if I have dangers available I'm sure as hell gonna try..ive had allot of good games that were started off with a double danger save.. thanks again for the great content!

I was just talking to Dave about when is a good time to nudge, and how to make the most effective choices when playing. Slowly getting the hang of making good snap decisions when it comes to nudges (no tilts yet, I hope you keep it that way.)

The more you play, the more comfortable you will be making those sort of decisions. Glad you're finding your own style!

Keep flipping and it will come but you have to be willing to risk it at it times and find out what you can get away with on every machine and how they are set.. when I go to a tourney one of the first things I do in practice is look how the game is set up and how tight the tilt is. That kinda tells me what I can get away with of I need to make an aggressive move or slap

Why do you like to play with gloves? Seems like it would take some feel of the machine and fine motor coordination away. I can see it benefitting for hard moves and slaps though to protect your hands.

I use them mostly for grip! My hands can get a bit slick so they keep things dry.

Trevor, what are the gloves you wear during play? Are they for grip, sweat, hygiene, or all of the above? My hands sweat while playing and I wipe them off during brief breaks in gameplay. I'm considering trying out some gloves for myself but also don't want to sacrifice the natural feel of each game. Thanks.

Hi Brian, the gloves are mostly for grip! My hands run a bit damp so it keeps me from slipping, and also keeps the machine dry for other players. I personally use rain resistant golf gloves, but have seen all sorts: from gardening to weight lifting. Find your feel, and play comfortably!
